The Author's Hangout Valentine's Day 2012 Support Thread

I'm actually not going to name names unless the ID in question starts becoming a nuisance on the forums. If the ID wants to write stories and not act the ass, I say that's all to the good, and let it happen.

More and better stories, I always say. Makes it more fun to try to handicap the contests. I have my own leaderboard, but will not post it for fear of the trolls. Once voting closes and the places are announced, I'll be interested to see how well I did.

james r scouries believes in transparency in the voting ...

...which is why he's asked me to post his scores...

A good second day – 11,000+ views, 241 more votes and 6 new comments. And the score moved up .01 to a more appropriate number (69) given the stories content. A 1000+ vote story!!!

Ain't it funny how a certain person doesn't seem to get the rash of 3 votes the resat of us do.

Several small sweeps noted but none were to helpful for my newer stories.

Spoke too soon. Lost a half dozen votes on all my stories this morning. Not much change in score. One story did go down .01.

I did enter too many stories but it's not about winning but the quick postings. I hate waiting four to six days to get a story up. Only one story has an H and another goes in and out of the H column. Two of the others is in the median and one is under 4.00.

Voting seems lower scores than usual, but it might just be my stories suck. Oh well, you can't please everyone.

What is darkboy hiding? Why is it that only he and his AHland insiders can see the numbers?

We at ScouriesWorld have never felt that it was fair that one contestant ran the contest figures every night but never showed them to anybody but his friends. That only they were privy to the numbers.

And that they were then, as a group, able to manipulate the results in their favor. We believe it’s a clear case of cheating.

We believe everyone should see the figures – not just this AHland clique!

So we've posted them On the A.I.R./LITEROTICA contest support thread. For all to see. We haven’t included figures for today’s late last minute entries (which as usual include some from this notorious clique as well as the usual SURVIVOR suspects).

Full transparency is the only way we’ll ever have fair contests.

Ah yes, scouries and his most favorite conspiracy theory. The AH and especially the writers who use this thread are all out to get him. It is our fault he is a crappy writer. It's our fault he spends all his time on FAKE contest threads and FAKE list to promote his won bloated ego.

Sorry scouries but it doesn't hold water. You are your own worse enemy.

Can I just say that the ignore feature is really great...enjoying it immensely :)

Isn't it just and that's why i don't quote him. It save people eyes among other things but i still get the point across to any newbie that doesn't have him and his ilk on ignore yet. ;)

 My tracks are all available to anyone who wants to see them - after the contest is over - and they speak for themselves. If there was any targeted 1-bombing going on, it would be perfectly obvious in the daily tracks.

On the contrary, the stories that come out of the gate strong almost always stay at the top. Likewise, only stories with low vote totals typically move more than 1 or 2 places - especially after all entries are in and new breakaway stories aren't popping into the list.

By contrast, we have the unmentionable one gathering the data ( in an incomplete and poor statistical manner, I might add ) and then posting it for all to see in the middle of the contest amidst a sea of derogatory statements about authors, categories, and specific stories along with fictitious disqualifications in a so-called "support" thread.

Who's up to something and trying to manipulate the outcome, troll? :D

Aw, sorry to hear that.

Did you actually submit and it just didn't get approved in time, or have you got it still unsubmitted? If the latter, then you'll be ahead of the game next year at least.

Nah. I never finished it. Wrote the beginning and the end. Got sidetracked with real life in the middle of my writing. Poop, again! I give lots of credit to those who have the sticktoitiveness in them. Kudos to all of the authors!

Um, you don't know the number of started-but-discarded stories that came before the two I actually submitted this time! :D

I have a 15000 Earth Day one that I think is going to see the delete button, I hate keeping unfinished stories on my flash drive. At least my new take on writing hates me having them. :D

Earth Day just eludes me. I was goofing off earlier today and trying to come up with an idea that grabbed me, but came up dry. Well not completely, but the ideas were way to cliched to bother with.

I had one I thought was moving quite along at a nice pace, but now I'm thinking. . .what the hell are you thinking, Red?

That's my problem with a lot of the contests. I had an idea for earth day last year but doubt I'd be able to find another that I like. Had a half-decent one for V-Day, just couldn't make it come together in time and at a level I liked.

Maybe it's time they considered varying the themes?

Earth Day is particularly tricky, though I rather fancy writing about shagging golems.

Earth day isn't that hard for me. Nude Day is much more difficult. The very point of that day is divorcing nudity from the sexual. You're almost going off theme in the narrowest definition of "theme" by having sex in the story.

All you need for Earth Day to nail it is an underlying conservation/recycling/activism theme.

You're probably right, Dark, as far as true nudists are concerned. >sigh< "The human body is nature thing. We shouldn't be ashamed of it. Being naked doesn't have to be sexual. We were all born naked. Blah, blah, blah."

Maybe, someone predisposed to their ideas might be persuaded, but I think we all know why Nude Day gets any press: for the unenlightened of us who can't dismiss our prurient interests.

Somewhere, somehow, I believe there's L. Ron Hubbard of Nudism who sits back and laughs at his disciples singing the praises of non-sexual nudity while he struggles to hide a hard-on.

But hey, that's just jilted ol' me. YMMV. :D

Here's tonight's track.

9 new stories brings us up to what should be the final total of 84. It's always possible the late entries may go up, but it doesn't happen very often.

The average score is now 4.20 with a median of 4.29

The average number of votes is 253 with a median of 182 and a total of 17,975

Again, I caught a couple of fumble finger moments in yesterday's track and fixed them. I really need to get the overhead light above my computer desk fixed :p

The average number of views is 12,357 with a median of 8,439 and a total of 926,778

The average number of favs is 5 with a median of 4 and a total of 412

The average number of PCs is 9 with a median of 5 and a total of 661

Keep in mind that I'm only updating the views, PCs, and favs on stories that first joined the list the day before. When I eventually update all stories, I expect those numbers to rise.

Minor contest sweeps are already beginning to run, but not enough of the data is showing up yet to really post those numbers. The toplist where I gather vote data is about 24 hours behind real time, so I won't see those missing votes until tomorrow.

The score is more up to date, as it comes from the submission pages, which update more often.

For the curious, the remainder of the stats come from the bottom of the first page of each story. Those are the most up to date numbers that can be obtained from the public side for those stats. Only your private author list is more current.

I hope the AH Earth Day thread gets made soon.

Does this contest have to specifically reference Earth Day? Or are the themes of nature and outdoors enough? Envirmentalism count?

Nature and outdoors is enough, but theme "purists" will always give you a boost if you have environmentalism, conservation, recycling, etc. in there. Likewise, having important events actually happen on Earth Day gets you a boost, as does having the whole story happen on the day.

The thread should start up at around the end of the month, because that's a month in advance of the start of the contest.

Nothing stopping anyone from discussing it here, though. Just because the title says "Valentine's" doesn't mean that support for all themed contests ( or anything, really ) can't go on here :)
