In excerpts of an interview scheduled to run in full tonight, Marianne Gingrich claims that her ex-husband, Newt Gingrich, sought an "open marriage" before their own marriage ended.

In the interview with ABC News, Marianne Gingrich claims that when her husband told her of a long-term affair he was having with a congressional staffer (Callista Gingrich, who he is now married to), the then-Speaker asked if he could both remain married to Marianne and continue the affair.

"I just stared at him and he said, 'Callista doesn't care what I do,'" Marianne Gingrich tells ABC News in the interview. "He wanted an open marriage and I refused."

Good for nher, I guess.

Being an American political wife can be a cruel fate

They always mean other people's family values...

In situations like this I always like to ask, "What would Jason Seaver think?"

Just having the balls to ask for an open marriage bumps him up a notch in my book......

Does going to the hospital and asking his cancer stricken wife for a divorce, bump him back down?

Sure...But he is a politician. Despite the animal they rally behind they are all scum bags to me.

I expect nothing more or less from all of them.

I think a slug has more family values than Clinton and I like Clinton.

Hah... wow ....
While I am, by no means saying that Clinton is a poster boy for family values ...
I can't imagine anyone arguing Newt is better in that score then Bill.

They both cheated but it didn't take Congress and impeachment to get Newt to admit to it.

So because Bill Clinton didnt want to tell congress about geting a blow job, he has less "family values" then newt?

"Gingrich was apparently dating Bisek all during Clinton-Lewinsky adultery scandal, even as he proclaimed family values and bitterly criticized the President for his adultery.

This is hardly the first time Newt has cheated, either. "It was common knowledge that Newt was involved with other women during his [first] marriage to Jackie. Maybe not on the level of John Kennedy. But he had girlfriends -- some serious, some trivial." -- Dot Crews, his campaign scheduler throughout the 70s. One woman, Anne Manning, has come forward and confirmed a relationship with him during the 1976 campaign. "We had oral sex. He prefers that modus operandi because then he can say, 'I never slept with her.'"

Kip Carter, his former campaign treasurer, was walking Newt's daughters back from a football game one day and cut across a driveway where he saw a car. "As I got to the car, I saw Newt in the passenger seat and one of the guys' wives with her head in his lap going up and down. Newt kind of turned and gave me this little-boy smile. Fortunately, Jackie Sue and Kathy were a lot younger and shorter then."

"He walked out in the spring of 1980.... By September, I went into the hospital for my third surgery. The two girls came to see me, and said, "Daddy is downstairs. Could he come up?" When he got there, he wanted to discuss the terms of the divorce while I was recovering from my surgery." - Jackie, his first wife.

Shortly after the cancer ward visit, Newt stopped paying alimony and child support. Jackie had to take Newt to court to get him to contribute for bills, as utilities were about to be cut off."

Newts playboy exploits have been splashed all over the papers for 20 years
the least of which is his 2nd wife telling reports her wanted to stay married and keep his girlfriend(now current wife) openly on the side.

All politicians are hypocrites. I find it hard to say one is worse than the other in that respect.

It's certainly true that all politicians are full of shit but in regard to family values I think Newt is far more full of shit than Bill since Newt is representative of the alleged family values party.

But that way of thinking implies that Dems are not a family values oriented party and therefore Clinton was just fine. Since neither is true I put them on equal footing in terms of hypocrisy.
Given the choice I'll take the guy who cheated but admitted it. That's one little thing though. In the bigger picture it doesn't matter that much since "family values" ultimately won't decide who would make the better President.
And I don't totally buy the hospital story. It depends on who you ask and I have no reason to believe an ex when it comes to that kind of stuff.

so it's ok to cheat as long as you admit it? He left his first wife after she got cancer and his second after she got MS.. those are facts that are not in dispute.

Btw... why does OSU have to say "The Ohio State University"?.... Is there another one that is just Ohio State University?

Why are Americans so obsessed with politicians' sex lives? Or personal lives in general? Religion, sexual orientation, sexual affairs, what does any of that have to do with the job?

Ask the libs and their bashing campaigns.

We like to be able to trust the word of our politicians
We want them to be honest in life, so we can trust they will be honest in their jobs

Someone who is willing to screw over their spouse, more likely to screw over their constitutes.
At least that's the theory

There is also the issue of hypocrisy, they run of being "family oriented" while banging their personal assistant, or they stand up and tout how horrible another politician is for cheating, while nailing the babysitter.

Is it the end all be all? Clearly not, Kennedy couldnt keep it in his pants, everyone loves him, Newt has a string of affairs and is a GOP hopeful.

So yes, we are noisy and judgmental, but we also forgive and forget easily.
