New Sherlock Holmes

Benedict Cumberbatch?

I have to admit I never thought I'd ever be able to watch anybody other than Jeremy Brett in the role but Cumberbatch is, at least, interesting.

The idiot American Robert Downey is an offense against nature.

As in the new one that's in the theaters?
nope - this is THE BEST sherlock. ever!
btw, HNY, red

Is it streamed live on the Player? That's like only an hour from now.
don't know, suppose so, did you catch it? fandabbydozi! and a HNY, kotori

it will be, yes,

Red, it's a modern day version and really quite good.
quite good? QUITE good?

^mistress of the understatement
HNY, kibs

Leave it to BBC, to have fresh take, on nearly everything.
Since my Boston Public Broadcasting channel got in bed with the BBC,
I get random access to some of the goodies, at random times.
Right now, Boston PBS is in love with Downton Abbey.

Season 1 was great! (Brilliant?)
I will have to look over your shoulders, with envy.
And nurse my patience. *sigh*

I laughed out loud a few times. Never really watched the first series, though I remember the cliff hanger. But Shy is a big fan. Got to admit I enjoyed this one.

there were only three episodes. i missed them first time round and only caught them on the rerun!

the phones' ringtones. hahahahaha

who saw part two?

it was still very good, but i was a smidge disappointed - i like to not know what the outcome is and for it all to be a clever surprise :(

still eminently watchable though, and looking forward to the last one on sunday.

Missed it again

It's a great series and it really re vamps the whole Sherlock Holmes thing. Ita so good and better than any of the period stuff. I hope it's recorded so I can watch it tonight. He could do with a live interest though

it's great what they've done with it, for sure. brought it slap bang up to date but really kept the core feel for the piece. i was dubious but as soon as i saw them last year i was hooked.

did you see the first ep of series 2 with the dominatrix? loved the twist at the end.

Yes I did it was brilliant, I didn't see that coming. It's great that it's so edgy and your never quiet sure where the next twist is going to come from. So many TV dramas are very predictable, Sherlock is new, refreshing and modern. I love it. The Dominatrix was my kind of girl. I hope she appears in future episodes.

I had to chuckle when I noticed a considerably younger Benedict Cumberbatch ( with more hair ) making an appearance in an ancient episode of Miss Marple last night. In his role as a modern day incarnation of Holmes, Cumberbatch does not quite manage to pull off the necessary suspension of disbelief— but he's close enough to make the series well worth watching.

Everytime I see an advertisement for the U.S. cinema version featuring the horribly-out-of-his-depth Robert Downey, I cringe.

it's always funny when we see the younger versions of actors, especially in adverts or something equally 'eek'.

i respectfully disagree with you, trysail, about his inability to pull it off.

downey, i agree completely with the sentiment.

speaking of which (cumberpatch), part 2 ep2 is being repeated right now beeb3, started at 7 and on till 8.30 for anyone who missed it.

don't know if week two's ep had a different writer without looking it up, but tonight's was bang on form again.

bastards!

who did he DO that?

i can guess at parts, but not enough to know how he did it. and now it's over! GRRRRRRRR

bastard bastards! :D

I need to catch the last one. Maybe next week when I'm back home. I thought the baskervilles one was a good update of the original.

I also disagree about Downey. As much as I loathe guy ritchie, I really enjoyed the first sherlock.

do. not. miss it.

yer welcome.

Yer right. Sherlock is entertaining. Cumberbatch is older in real life than he appears in the series. The character is both eclectic and properly eccentric.

The theme music is also pleasing. It's oddly different yet somehow consonant with the overall cinematography and subject.

Another story: http://www.npr.org/2012/05/03/151938002/the-man-who-revitalized-doctor-who-and-sherlock

TV writer and producer Steven Moffat specializes in injecting new life into old, familiar characters and stories. He first worked his magic on the revived edition of Doctor Who, leading to several BAFTA and Hugo Awards for the series.

Steven Moffat is the co-creator of Sherlock. He's also the lead writer and executive producer for the British science-fiction TV show Doctor Who.
More recently, he's turned his eye to the world's greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes. As the co-creator of the critically-acclaimed BBC series Sherlock, Moffat is responsible for updating Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous fictional creation for a modern-day audience...
