Votes number goes down?

Sorry if this isn't the correct place to ask this question, but I keep tabs on my stories vote tally and in the past few days I've seen some that the votes number actually went down. How can that happen?

It's called a sweep. One a week or so the site "sweeps" the votes and eliminates what they consider suspicious votes. Usually you will see your score go up a bit, because they tend to erase some one bombs.

It happens all the time.

It happens even more at the end of each month as the Monthly Contest scores are evaluated and even more so if there is a Special Contest going on.
