My family has bad genes.
They seem to come with side effects. I want to get better, not trade problems.
It's a lot better than living off of beans and tofu.

Everybody is going to flame the shit out of me for this, but so be it.
TAKE THE DAMN STATIN AND EAT ANYTHING YOU WANT!!
Seriously, dude, your numbers simply aren't that bad. They look like mine before I started the regimen eight or nine years ago.
My total Cholesterol was somewhere over 200 and is now down to 145. Admittedly, my HDL number sucks, but in your case, "over 40" does not mean freaking out over a "39". That's stupid.
No side effects from the statin for me. Yeah, the doc has to monitor your kidney function closely, but for me that has simply meant not taking NSAIDs for pain. Acetaminophen only.
The two biggest things are don't stop exercising and keep your total weight down. Those are as or more important than what you eat. If I lost 20 pounds and got into semi-decent physical shape, ALL my numbers would be golden.
I stay away from fried foods. Broil or bake all read meat. More fish. More green veggies. Less starch. Common sense stuff.
But just take the damn statin.

Word is bond.
I'm with you. I eat a lot of good stuff and love whole grains and veggies and happen to LOVE tofu, but my genetics dictate a creep in my numbers now that I'm post 40. I intend to stick to my same diet (which includes Phillly cheesesteaks and cheeseburgers on occasion because I LOVE THEM) and I will so take the fucking pills as soon as my numbers go up. I don't want to have to eat beige, bland food to get my numbers down, which is what happens in my family when the numbers turn. So I will eat my quinoa and have my chorizo, too.
The end of that sentence is diabolically ambiguous. Thanks for clearing up that "turkey vs. dog" thing. Now I won't have to coax him out from under the bed to eat dinner.![]()

You're only a couple years older than me. And your numbers aren't that bad.
Try a few things. Add an aerobic workout with your other work at the gym. Good luck to you.

Happy birthday![]()
vitamins = expensive pee.
You need to make an appointment with a registered dietitian.

True, Col? 23rd or 24th?You are just the SWEETEST!! Thank you very much! (Hell, I have family members who don't remember... (and, of course, I missed yours -- again))
Hope all is well with you and kids.![]()
True, Col? 23rd or 24th?
Also you: 23 or 24?
24th is my wife's birthday too. I got her a Kindle Fire. I tried to figure out the gift-level most likely to result in a blow job and go slightly above it. I am an overachiever that way.24th. And I can barely remember 23 or 24. Although I do remember I wasn't remotely concerned with cholesterol numbers back then. Now those were the days.![]()

You should edit either this post or the one where you say you don't drink.Ohhhhhkkaaayy. Thanks for that info. I should probably tell you I'm a lot harder to shop for. I'm thinking at least three cars and two houses.
Nice cars. Big houses.
Or maybe just a card and we forget the gift exchange.
