Submitted story has nearly 40 views - but not approved!

Hi everyone,

Long time reader of the site, but only just signed up so I can start polishing and posting some of the stories I've written over the past couple of years.

Just a quick question, really, about the submission process. I read the guidelines, polished up my first story, and submitted it three days ago. It's still awaiting approval, but I believe it can take a few days, that isn't an issue (although I'd love to start getting feedback!).

But the story, on my "view current submissions" screen, already has 38 views (but zero votes) even though it's down as "Awaiting Approval, pending." Who is viewing it, if it isn't displayed on the site? Is there a subset of users who can view pending stories?

This is a known glitch in the system, and nothing to worry about. Odds are that nobody has viewed it until just before you see it approved.

Usually, that's around 3 days, but new authors can expect a day or so more, and there's a themed contest running right now, which can also delay posting of non-contest stories.

Thank you for clearing this (minor) issue up for me. There's no great rush in getting the story posted, I wrote it two years ago anyway, so a few days' wait isn't a hassle. I was just curious about the "views" statistic.

I look forward to a happy and fulfilling time here.

The glitch comes up frequently, usually from newbies. And an oldbie (like Dark) gives this standard answer.

Here's an issue I've never seen addressed, though: How many of the views I see on a story posted months ago are real and how many are spurious artifacts of this glitch?

There's been no increase in the average number of views accumulating on pulled stories since the glitch started manifesting itself. Those can't be reached by the public and if the glitch went beyond the pre-approval period, they would demonstrate it.

The glitch views also eventually quit accumulating, and always on an even number -- usually a multiple of 16.

There's nothing to support the glitch affecting anything other than pre-approval stories.

My last one had 16 the one before that 64. I wonder if it excites the poetry writers. Those poor guys are lucky to get a hundred views to begin with.

I submitted a sequence of seven chapters on Saturday night. Before I'd even gotten the last two up, the first five had two views. The first five have had 22 views, two of them 20 views, since about noon yesterday.

At first I thought they were accumulating at two per hour, but they haven't changed for the last 27 hours.

It's a weird glitch; I'm not surprised they can't find it (even if they're looking).
