A while there was a questionaire about mental illness and BDSM. That is not where I want to go, but it made me think.

How many subs have ADD?

10 years ago when I first was married my husband used to tease me about ADD sex, after I would constantly loose focus and zone out. Then he found spanking and clamps as a good way to keep me focused on sex. :)

Sorry if there are any typos, I forgot to take my Ritalin this morning.

I don't think I'm hyperactive, but i think the ADD suits me. ;)

I think, what with the way diagnoses are given out like candy on Halloween these days, that most, if not all of us, would quality. ;P

Not to demean those with life-disrupting attention disorders, of course.

I was just curious what others thought. Coffee calms me down, pain excites me, typically romantic things cause me to start worrying about the lists of stuff i need to do. I do idiotic things sometimes, love me and enjoy me.

Never been officially diagnosed or anything, but I do have serious problems with attention. It takes massive amounts of caffeine to clear my head enough to do anything. I take Allegra for my (horrible) allergies, and it acts as a stimulant for me, which, apparently, doesn't happen to most other people. So, yeah, there are probably some problems there.

And, yes, I get bored as hell with sex if there's not enough happening. It's why I can't stand rope bondage. GET IT THE HELL OVER WITH ALREADY!!!!!

Also, just FYI, they don't hand the ADD/ADHD diagnosis out like candy to adults. Many practitioners don't even believe that adult ADD/ADHD exists.

It has been suggested that I'm ADD and that's why I'm so anal retentive about organization - because I'm a dingbat (my description of myself) and I have to be anal retentively organized to get anything done.

One day I was having a particular STUPID day and someone said 'oh it's just because you have so much going on!' and I said 'you know - when i was a child i was told it was because i was under so much stress. when i was a teenager i was told it's hormones. When I was a younger woman it was baby brain. now they say it's cause i've got so much going on. let's just be honest with ourselves. I'm a dingdong."

In other words, my organization stuff is a coping mechanism.

Does getting fired for ADHD behavior on the job make it "life disrupting?" Because I've been there. I've been medicated for ADHD for almost 20 years, it was diagnosed almost 25 years ago but I refused to take meds at the time. Now I wouldn't be without them.

I wouldn't say it has a major impact on my sex life though.

Present.
I was diagnosed with ADD ( no hyperactivity for me) about 7 years ago. This explained many of quirky behaviors I have like always needing to sit on a corner or end of a table in a group, being the one conversation at a time police, using timers and alarms for anything important and lists, lists, lists for EVERYTHING which are coping mechanisms I've developed over the years.
I was on medications for about 2 years, alderol seemed to work best and made it easier for me to hunker down for those menial tasks I hate to do. It also made it easier to remember to do things like eat and drink. All the medications had side effects though and in the end I decided I had done well enough before medications using the tricks I picked up along the way that it wasn't worth trading in the creative bursts and wild ideas to gain only a moderate amount of efficiency. A couple cups of strong coffee when I really need to focus and I'm good to go.

I have ADHD that my mom refused to treat so it went unchecked until I was 12 and they relabeled it "generalized anxiety disorder" with a bunch of other DSM stuff attached. Since then I've been pretty well medicated and much more controlled- and I'm a sub. I never thought of the two as being related. hmmm....

I reckon Sir has OCD and ADD as well as dyslexia. Makes for an interesting life sometimes! :D

I have a friend who fits this exact description. Because she has problems focusing, she obsessively organizes everything (with bright. BRIGHT. color coding.) Bad part is, she spends so much time organizing her school notes, that she doesn't do as much actual studying. She needs to find a balance. I have no idea if it affects her sex life, though. Honestly, I have absolutely NO desire to know XD
