Recently Republican Oklahoma state representative Sally Kearns stated that gays are worse than terrorists in this country. Blame can be placed on gays for 9/11 and terrorism, God's retribution for their acceptance.

Now Rep. she is issuing a Proclamation for Morality in which she blames the nation's current economic and other problems on gays, abortion, divorce, and all around lack of Christian faith.

In the video I saw, she quoted some passage from the Bible stating that nations true to God are blessed. (Something like that.)

This is part of the proclamation:

WHEREAS, the people of Oklahoma have a strong tradition of reliance upon the Creator of the Universe; and

WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; and

WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and

WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and

WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior; [She is referring to Obama's declaring June Gay Pride Month.]

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we the undersigned elected officials of the people of Oklahoma, religious leaders and citizens of the State of Oklahoma, appealingto the Supreme Judge of the world, solemnly declare that the HOPE of the great State of Oklahoma and of these United States, rests upon the Principles of Religion and Morality as put forth in the HOLY BIBLE.

Her husband is a Baptist minister. It seems to me that the proclamation is meant for her Christian god.

I have alays been profoundly grateful that in England, we do not have the kind of politicians that the US seems to possess. For the most part religious beliefs and personal sexual freedoms are not associated in speeches given by those elected to represent us. Our main political parties would give short shrift to any of their parliament members making a speech such as this one, almost certainly they would be expelled from the party but also leave themselves open to prosecution.
I realise that in the US you have Freedom of Speech, but with freedom comes responsibility, something these politicians of yours often abdicate. People will undoubtedly get hurt physically by others who feel justified, by such views.

I would love to see a lawyer take one of these politicians to court and force them to prove that, being gay, having an abortion etc was directly responsible for the nations ills. And if they cant as they wont be able to then, they should be branded liars and removed from public office!

These people operate under a form of thought that thinks that Belief makes things true.

They believe that our economic woes are due to gay people and people having sex.

That's a very useful belief for the banks and the Koch Brothers, don't you think?

Unfortunately I live in southeast Kansas which borders Oklahoma. I am extremely concerned about the effects this proclamation will have here. Kansas, statistically, is MORE conservative than OK, as well as suffering more financially. This is the home of Fred Phelps, many anti-abortion groups, and the murderer of Dr. George Tiller. It is not far fetched to think that something like this has the potential to take away the last bit of separation of church and state that we have...

you have my complete sympathy, I cant imagine living anywhere, where the so called leaders of society could be so pubicly and vehemently hate filled and aggressive to a section of their own populace. Its disgraceful and disgusting.

Let's ignore the fact that, contrary to popular opinion, not everyone in America is Christian. What?!

I... I don't really have anything else to say here. As a human being, I'm not equipped to deal with this kind of out and out hostility against a whole segment of the populace, under the guise of an official edict. But then again, personally I've never been too good at dealing with stupidity, so...

The Republicans can't/don't want to shake the religious right. Meanwhile they speak of individual liberty while shenanigans like this go on.

The Democrats skewer businesses and don't bother actually passing social freedom issues(or much of anything really) when they have control of the executive and legislative.

Both seem to like spending us into oblivion while blaming the other.

When are we going to get a party representative of common sense and decency?

I think a return to the separation of Church and State in the US would be a good thing for a whole pile of reasons. Our PM in Canada is a Christian, but he doesn;t allow it to govern everything he does, if he did he would never get elected.

That is perfect...we in the US should strive to be more like Canada.

"A return to separation of church and state in the US"? Are you serious? There simple statement contains such a profound misunderstanding of the Constitution.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"

I imagine you were speaking in general terms, but let's be very clear that the First Amendment restricts the federal government (more specifically Congress) from passing legislation the restricts the free exercise of religion. It says nothing about the state legislatures passing legislation of a religious nature. I do not see any such prohibition in the Oklahoma State Constitution either.

But back to the broader point...she is wasting everyone's time with this stupid proclamation. Voters sent her to Oklahoma City to deal with real issues that are affecting the lives of all Oklahomans. For some reason I doubt issues of sexuality are keeping a significant number of them awake at night. If you want to criticize her for being inept and wasting people's time, I am in agreement. If you want to make it about separation of church and state, you have lost me.

Sounds like your also using scare tactics...people can make up their own decisions based on the truth...let them look it up and find out the facts. Whos to say yours are right?
