I'm not trying to say left handed people are better than right handed people, but it seems we are unique. And not only are there less of us, the list of left handed people is full of names anybody will recognize.

Of all of the astronauts ever in NASA, many of them have been left handed. It's been said that 1 in 4 of them are left handed. Only 10-15% of the general population is left handed. Is there a reason that there are so many left handed astronauts? I don't know...but there are.

Sure, the majority of people in the world are right handed. But isn't it interesting that of the few left handed people in this world, so many of them have lead interesting lives?

I'm the only member of my extended family that is left handed. But, on my mother's side, many of the kids of one of her sisters (there were 8 of them) are mothers of twins or mothers of mothers of twins.

Neither K or I are, but K and my oldest are ambidextrous. Well, we think K is, we know A is because she writes with her right and kicks and throws with her left. When she was in kindergarten she wrote with both hands, so they made her choose which she wanted to write with and she chose her right.

My son used to be DETERMINED that only men smoke (because his dad does and I don't). Now he thinks that men have bigger bladders than women because his sister is nicknamed princess pee-a-lot and he can hold it for quite awhile.

I'm instictually left handed, but as a child my mom insisted that I do things with my right. I will still reach with my left hand first, and when I go to do anything but write, my left hand pops out.

I'm left handed. I can't write at all with my right hand.... Well, I *can*, but not legibly. All my childhood I heard that left-handers were more creative, and I completely fit that stereotype.

I come from a family of left-handers, which I am told is very rare. My father, mother, myself and my 2 brothers are all lefties.

My mother was forced to learn to write with her right hand, so she in that regard became ambidextrous.

Technically I could be considered ambidexterous as I can do most things with either, such as eat, write (somewhat), use tools, masturbate, etc. But I do seem to prefer my left hand.

The oddball thing is that for a couple of things I am completely right-handed. I throw using the right, using my left, I "throw like a girl", Same goes for kicking, though not to the same extreme.

Unfortunately this probably keeps me from fitting any of the nice features of being a true southpaw

I'd think many lefties can seem to be ambidextrous, because most things in the world are made for right handed people. We have to learn to do things like the right handed crowd does, just because something is made for them.

Right handed people take things for granted, but left handed people can sometimes be called clumsy, because we stumble with the right handed devices. Although, there are some things that were supposedly made for the left handed that seems worse. I'm sure that those things must be made by right handers, either to get a laugh or just because they assume it will work.

One thing I know about is left handed scissors. I've used right handed scissors for so long that I prefer them to the left handed version. Both hurt my hand to use, but it seems the left version hurts worse. Something tells me that there's a right handed group somewhere in the shadows, laughing at my pain.

Anybody else have right handed things that you have trouble with?

I have (and actually prefer) a stick shift. I've never had a problem with it, but I can see how some would, because it's not our dominant hand. Just another thing that right handed people have in their favor. It makes one wonder if right handed people in Europe have an issue with driving the left handed drive models.

I'm a musician and a keyboard player. I've found that my right hand does intricate things than my left hand has trouble with. But, my left hand does things that are equally intricate that my right hand has trouble with. I think we learn things, no matter what hand is dominant. But, that learning is easier or harder, depending on that dominance.

There was a time recently, that I had a pinched nerve in my back. It didn't really hurt, but it was pressing on the nerve so long that my right hand fingers lost dexterity and strength. I thought I'd never play piano again, because I would make mistakes when my fingers didn't go where they were suppose to. I went to physical therapy for a while and now the dexterity and strength is slowly coming back. There are still times when I'll feel the weakness when playing piano or doing things like buttoning a shirt. Although I am left handed, there are things that I do with my right hand, because they are geared towards right handers.

You may be one of those who are just a victim of the right handed world. You've learned to do things like the enemy, because it's a right handed world. We all have to live with that, to a point.

I could use scissors with my right hand, but I'd end up cutting myself. I can use a fork with my right hand, but anything that requires real finesse, like cutting the food, I'll have to use my left.

I bat right handed, but anything else in sports, I'll use my left, even kicking. Oh, I could kick with my right leg, but just like writing with my right hand, why should I, when I'd look silly doing it? I've always worn a watch on my left hand, because it just works best for me. But when I was a kid, I remember it digging into my wrist, when I threw a ball, because of it. I just can't wear a watch on my right hand, even if there is a left handed watch made.
