Who would marry a Prostitute?

Anyway in regards to the original question, if she was out of the biz and tested clean for all known STDs, and I fell in love with her, yes, I would consider it given the right circumstances. Its just a job, one that is morally questionable sure but so are 1,000 other jobs in some way. Most jobs have morally questionable aspects. If I were a woman I might consider doing it myself given the right circumstances. You won't find many virgins these days, and at least a prostitute was smart enough not to just give it away like a lot of girls.

Merc is right anecdote isn't evidence. But I'll share anyway.

I worked in SE Asia for years. I know of maybe a dozen guys, black and white who, married Asian women. None were previously associated with the sex trade.

It might come as a surprise to Pwannabe, but Western expats in Asia don't spend much of their time trolling whorehouses for wives.

In fact, they are quite capable of meeting urbane and educated Asian women in the course of their social activities as businessmen, engineers or whatever at parties, luncheons, dinners, night clubs just like here in the good ol' USA.

Did you know that Sailors have sex with prostitutes when they visit foreign lands? And if you see a Sailor married to a Filipino or Tai woman, you can betcha that they married a prostitute

Sad but true.

I doubt you visited any of those countries let alone served and as such have no personal knowledge.

You are an ignorant twat.

It's tremendously stressful. But none of this means that a woman doesn't genuinely love a man she married, partly for security. I'm not talking about loveless marriages that materialistic, self-centered people enter into in order to live a certain way.
Granted, in some cases a woman may come to genuinely love a man that she married for security. But you do acknowledge that in many cases, majority or not, they dump him after they get their green card, or if he loses his job, etc.

let me guess: you married an Asian? :)
Chop! PSW cuts off his own left leg!

What makes you think that Thai or Phillipino cultures don't offer women as many human rights as American culture?

Rights aren't even the real issue. It's lack of opportunity and social mobility.
Social mobility is a common issue with these nations, but so are a lack of rights.

You do know that, for instance, there was a failed coup in Thailand in 2006, right? That stuck a knife right into a Constitution that was established only as recently as 1997. After the failed 2006 coup, freedom of speech was curtailed; this is one of many problems plaguing them even now. At least in the area of Thailand there's much reason for men and women to flee from there.

For the Philippines, in my casual observations, social mobility problems combine with family values and old Catholic morals to magnify each other in a very negative way.

As I sit here, I wonder if there is merit is what I posted. Yes there is. Because I confirmed another story from a former Sailor.

What gets under you skin more:
1. Knowing that I am right?
2. Knowing that for me to be right, some Sailors really do marry hookers?

I know the answer.

Fortunately, hard as you might try, you can't chop off your remaining arm. You simply aren't limber enough. Almost, but not enough.

Then admit that many Sailors marry hookers from Asia. And when these "wives" come to America, they convince the Sailor to stay in the service. They also bring the rest of their family to the states. Admit that.

How come you think your personal stories are generalizable to millions of people?

Please do not interrupt him while he's dismembering himself. You might get splattered with blood and we don't know if what he has is communicable.

Some years back I wrote a story about a Philippino girl...and doing some research, I found a chat room and made some acquaintances to provide accurate background for the story...it is titled "April", and is included in one of my short story collections, perhaps even the one offered as a free ebook below...

The above is just one of many sites that only obliquely address the Thread subject, but still...

Most service members do have sex with prostitutes when overseas. That is not a generalization. It's also true most of the Sailors that marry Filipinas and Thai women actually marry prostitutes. generalization? Not really. These guys usually do not venture off through the mainland. They stay in the "military base" towns, and that's where the prostitutes are.

Some marry descent women (i.e. non hooker types). That's a given.

How do you know? Sounds like you just heard something from a "friend" and decided to generalize to millions of people, both foreign citizens and US service members. What makes you think your experience is generalizable?

I am not generalizing. But ya know, I am getting used of your idea about not sweeping generalizations because I see that a LOT on LIT. I've lost count of the number of generalization LITsters have made about an opposing ideology.

Maybe you should create a new thread, and implore LITsters to stop generalizing..

i would marry a prostitute in a heart beat just so that i could laid on a regular basis. AND i would pay her for the sex

Most men do that now. They pay by doing crabby chores to appease the wife, and to get sex.

At this point I'd marry almost anyone who could be sincere when she lied and said she loved me.

And this is why men aged 45 or older have a less than 5% chance of getting married: for most the libido dimishes sharply, so the promise of sex has drastically diminishing power.
