So why do people favorite, and then a day later un-favorite?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I didn't have any luck searching for an existing thread.

I understand how someone might favorite by mistake, or maybe abandon a series they know isn't going anywhere or something like that, but why favorite something and then undo it a day or two later?

It doesn't upset me, because obviously what I write isn't going to please everyone, I'm just curious what goes on there.

My theory is that sometimes people see you on the favorites list of someone else with other authors they like and assume they will like your stuff. That and if you are frequently on the top lists people will bookmark you to check you out.

Then they read something and say "ummm nope" and they give you the boot. What's really bad is when it's in the same day! That's when I say "Damn, he must really think I suck!"

Hmm, you may be onto something there. I hadn't actually considered the favorite-as-bookmark.

I think they are just marking you to read something or finish reading it and then unmark you when they're done--using it as a bookmark.

So what you're saying is I shouldn't take it personally and start drinking and crying and more drinking?

Nah, no crying. Drinking on the other hand never hurts! I've done some pretty decent work with a buzz.

Maybe it's time to "favorite" this bottle of Glenlivet on my desk.

Wow, you're pretty high end! I'll settle for a pint of Jack. I actually wrote the sex scene in "At the Feet of My Mother" bombed. I had to fix all the spelling mistakes and punctuation errors the next day, but I got some pretty good reviews on it!

I'm actually not -- not these days, anyway. It was a birthday gift.

Awesome that you can write while bombed.... I just end up writing the worst sort of doggerel. Although it's fun at the time.

Not unless you were going to do that about something else, and this is just convenient to add in.

Well, obviously the alcohol lowered your inhibitions.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
90% of the time I fav a writter as a book mark. I do have a couple that are perma-faves, but that's rare.

I've seen Lit members who have like 50-100 favorite authors. I think that would be almost impossible to keep track of.

They use the mechanism as a bookmark. They start reading something one night and don't finish it until the next night. Two pops for one story. Then they clear their bookmark.

And/or the stumbled upon something you wrote because its on the new list and the bookmark you, so they can find your stuff and read it later.

Pretty much what others have said.

I wish somewhere on the authors page you could see the number at least of how many people have you as a favorite author and how many have each story on their favorites list.

I know, I know, PM Manu with the enhancement.

Well at the bottom of each story it does tell you how many favorites pages it is on. As for your other suggestion I am all for it. Right now if you are not a top 250 author you have no idea and I think they could manage it.

Maybe we shpuld start a "petition" thread for it I know A lot of people have mentioned this in the past.
