The first and better of the two really blew my mind. It is a horror film, but deserves it's own genre because of how thought provoking it was at the end. It was a French film called Martyrs. The basic plot is that a girl escapes from a insane couple that is torturing her as a child. The movie cuts to her and her best friend as young adults. The tortured girl is trying to find the people that ruined her life and kill them. The movie does a total 180 half way through and becomes something else entirely. It was very scary and has a very good ending. It is hard to watch, but not because it's a torture porn movie like Saw or Hostel.

The other movie is from New Zealand or Canada I think. It's called Pontypool. It's the story of radio broadcasters in their studio as a crazy riot tears through Canada. They don't know what to make of it and piece together info trying to figure out if it's a riot or a zombie outbreak. The movie is very scary and builds the tension great. It's one of those the less you see from the director the scarier it gets with your imagination.

new zealand or canada?
not much to choose between them

same accent anyway

I've seen Pontypool, and it was not bad. Very much a zombie flick, but a decent one. I think I've caught bits of another version of the same story, but didn't watch long enough to confirm it.

I liked Pontypool a lot. They took advantage of the Canadian setting with the cold, isolation and claustrophobia in the radio station. It has an interesting premise -- I guess OP didn't want to give away too much so I won't either.

The scariest movie I've ever seen is called A Tale of Two Sisters. It's not gory, it's extremely creepy. I didn't want to be alone in the apartment after seeing it.

The Haunting, the original 1963 version, remains my favorite horror movie of all time. No gore, almost no violence, tons of creepy suspense. The remake was more a showcase for special effects, and lost a lot of the tension because of it.

I don't do horror.

I hated The Ring.
I thought I could handle The Exorcist because it looked lame and old. I was wrong.
And the newish ones...
Paranormal Activity. I wanted to stay up and talk til the sun came up every night for about a week. I had to change my room around because it reminded me of the room in the movie.

Tell you what, Asians bring out some scary stuff.

What is A Tale of Two Sisters About?

I love finding good quality horror movies. If anyone knows any more please reply.

It's a Korean movie about a girl who comes home from an institution to live her father, sister and wicked step mother, but the house is haunted by something.
It has a slow build.

That's what I like - a good haunting that gets under your skin. It's hard to find really scary ones that don't rely on the gross-out factor or violent sadism.

I was so bored! And I hated Micah for being the official Stupid driving the plot. Man, I can't stand when the characters do stupid crap. Like the Blair Witch Project. I stopped caring for them as soon as they entered the woods.

But I thought The Descent was pretty scary.

I'm looking forward to Dream House looks well creepy. Comes with star power too, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts and Daniel Craig are in it.

The Changeling with George C. Scott is a great one from the 80's. I saw this when it was on TV when I was a kid and it scared the crap out of me! There's no gore or real special effects. They just let your mind fill in the blanks. I still think it's very good and it was the first time I ever saw automatic writing.
