Guest was Chaz Bono, frankly discussing his transition from female to male. No discussion or even just mention on this forum?

Yes, you just did, thank you for starting it! :)

There aren't very many FTM types on this forum. I'm one of the few-- and I don't watch Letterman, so I don't hear much about Celebrity children.

I'll tell you one thing for sure-- Chas's sex change totally puts the lie to the notion that women with strong female models in their lives don't need to transition.

I know this isn't very PC, but someone made mentioned that Chaz Bono got the sex change so he didn't have to loose the weight..

I know, that's mean. But, I do have a dry/dark sense of humor, so you have to forgive me.

Dave pulled his "I know nothing" act, appearing to be non-judgmental, curious/dumb. Bono I thought was terrific, not getting flustered by anything but really not holding back anything, either (as far as I could tell, anyway). When he told Dave his girlfriend was bisexual Letterman reacted as if he'd been shot...the implications were more than he could handle. And Bono went to great lengths to explain the difference between orientation and gender, how it was possible to be physically female but mentally male, how the transition was made, the effects of hormone treatment, etc.

All in all I thought it was a great interview of a very self-assured and articulate subject.

Yeah I don't watch Letterman either! Wish they had captioned that, I will have to watch it in the morning when I put my hearing aids back on. He looks good though. Thanks for finding the link Stella!

I didn't see it when it was on (past my bedtime!) but I just watched the YouTube video.

He looks great! He looks happy and confident, and best of all, comfortable.

So much of what he was saying is so familiar. I, myself, and a transgentleman. For Chaz, the tough relationship was with his mother; for me, it was with my dad, for many of the same reasons: not wanting to acknowledge me for who I actually am, clinging to what he thinks I should be, believing stereotypes and that I was ruining myself.

But... In time, he got over it. Sounds like Cher's doing the same, which is good.

I started reading the comments on the YouTube video.

MISTAKE.

The ignorance out there makes me so discouraged. We've come a long way, but it's obvious that we have a long, long way to go.

Never never read youtube comments, is my advice. It doesn't matter what the vid is about, there will be more ignorance on the topic than you would ever want to believe.

I figure youtube regulars are used to being spoonfed via TV.

I know better, but I couldn't help it! Reading the comments just kind of happens. The text is there, all enticing and lettery...

I just watched the video he made about walking in the rain shirtless.

I know what he means, seriously.

Male-born men take magnificent things like this for granted. Those moments of rediscovering the world, of opening up and enjoying life as we always should have... It's amazing.

I know, that one really hit me hard too. :rose:

Chaz reminds me strongly of Dusty (who used to post here and whom I miss so so so much. I haven't talked to him in at least 2 years. *sighs* He was the first person I ever talked to who was debating and transitioning from FtM)

The first time, I heard about Chaz Bono. I remember her (she was "her" back then) saying in an old talkshow with her and her mother Cher and I heard her saying she was bisexual, then a year or two ago. I suddenly found out she became a he.
So I wish him luck. It is just confusing to me, but as I said, I wish him luck. I am surprised that he mentioned the McD girl. Hmmm I wonder what he would say to the people who went after me as usual.
