Anyone for a nightcap?

It's about $20 here, versus about $12 or so for the Casa label. But then, life in Canada is so good it deserves to be more expensive, right? ;)

So it's almost twice as much but the $20 isn't that far off what I pay for the Casa.

Life in Canada is pretty good. I can't disagree with you there.

Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon with a surprisingly yummy "peasant dinner" (my own made up term) - 1/2 cup brown rice, 1/2 cup lentils (simmered with garlic), topped with pan crisped onions.

Auslese

a nice bottle of Mosel Auslese...most drank and the rest poured over various body parts...

Just had a delightful pairing of Middle Sister Rebel Red with a fluffernutter sandwich. The two worked together quite nicely.

I love Middle Sister wines. :)

I forgot to post it when I had it the other week, but Cupcake's Red Velvet is nummy.

Good to know! Thanks for the review. :)

For me tonight, I will be sipping Yellowtail Shiraz while munching fancy cheeses and crunchies. Cheers and Happy Friday to you all. :)

Just opened a bottle of Casillero del Diablo cabernet to let it breathe for tonight.

Cheers to all.

Checking to see what everyone has been drinking lately....

Tonight, I am test driving an $8 (at Total Wine, anyway) Oak Canyon Chard which is not at all bad.

Hoping all are well...

Holy Wine Barrels, Batman! It's a LilyBart sighting. :D :D

Tonight: another bottle of Casillero del Diablo cabernet. And with today's Fluffernutter: the classic diet coke.

Have you tried the Shiras? As a rule a prefer cab sav but love their shiras.

Tonight I would gladly drink anything that packs a mighty punch

She's like the wind...

LB? Hello?

I've posted two days in a row, people. That deserves a party!

Don't they have a carmenere too? I like that varietal.

Minxy, what is up with you and the new PYL? Your blurts are making me worried for you.

Yes, and I've had their carmenere as well. All are quite drinkable, especially when you give them some time to breathe first.

I enjoyed a few New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs last summer, which had almost a grapefruit edge to them. MmmmmmMmmmmm. They were terrific summer wines. Has anyone else tried these, and can someone recommend a good Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc?

Yes and yes. I believe it will take me a bit of research to be sure that the ones I'm thinking of are from that region, though.

NewZealand Sauvignon Blanc

Since 1985, Americans and much of the rest of the oenophile world have been smitten with sauvignon blancs from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. A few quite notable examples include:

Baker's Marque (Wine Enthusiast ranking, 89/100), $12
Kim Crawford (Wine Spectator ranking: 91/100), $14
Sam's Creek (unranked) $5
Nobilo (Wine Spectator ranking: 88) $12 to $15

All of these should give you an enjoyable experience.

Salut!

Thanks, man.

cone jerez villacreces
127 yr old fortified solera sherry
fucking so good its almost an oral orgasm with each sip

Trying to enlist kiwi_submissive in this quest, too, seeing as she has local knowledge. :)

I am not much of a wine drinker but I do have great memories of sitting in the sun at various vineyards tasting wines.

Oyster Bay and Cloudy Bay both make both great wines

For a good middle of the road and probably easy to find one over that way I would recommend Shingle Peak, not sure if thats a Marlborough one though and if you enjoy Chardonnays then Church Road is the way to go.

But my favourite has to be Lawsons Dry Hills, but maybe thats because they had a really friendly siamese cat to keep you company while wine tasting.

I feel a research road trip coming on.
