Climate change, earthquakes and tsunamis, oh my!!

With the terrible winter the US has just gone through, there are those wishing we had poured more green house gases into the atmosphere

I'm certainly not one of them.

Anyone who does wish that has absolutely no clue about how much extra energy in the global energy budget is required to provide the moisture and energy to fuel those record breaking storms and snowfalls.

It's highly obvious the world's tectonic plates are in flux. We started it with Global Warming and the Earth can't handle what we've done to it. The changes are evident over the last 50 years, to what we've done to alter things and now we are paying the price for it.

Nay-sayers aside, the evidence of so many numerous earthquakes around the world, Tsunami's, volcanic eruptions and climate changes that spawn hurricaines in greater numbers are too prevalent to not take notice and say something is up, whether Mother Nature is PMSing, or we've been a bad species and deserve this.

If I'm not mistaken, my guess is that the American/Canadian Pacific seaboard is in for some re-adjusting to compensate for all of this and the Ring of Fire will yet again unleash more catstrophe for us to face. I'm just hoping this isn't the last straw on Yellowstone Park's back and it decides to go super-volcano on us. The devastation we've seen so far from ALL the events of the past years, will pale in comparison.

As we've been told, it's not a matter of if, but when anything can happen. I just hope the big, fucking meteor hits first and takes us out quickly. This nickel and dime devastation sucks.[/

I don't recall dueling with RoyceConnors before, but such is life...I did want to quote the entire piece of garbage so that others might compare it to the 'true believer' mantra of any other religious faith, for Global Warming is surely faith, as THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT THE ACTIVITIES OF MAN HAVE AFFECTED THE EARTH AT ALL!

What little exposure to science facts, Ring of Fire, Tectonic Plates, this person may have, is overwhelmed by the total ignorance of the geologic history of the earth.

Tectonic plates have been around since the continents were formed and are natural events, silly, not man made, caused, or even influenced. History, even Biblical History, and that augmented by geological history, provides the learned with information that explains just about every disaster theory ever written and neither Man nor God has a thing to do with any of it.

Life or any kind, is somewhat of an afterthought on Planet Earth as the environment has been terribly hostile since the beginning and remains so to this day, although the frequency of such natural catastrophic events is demonstrably on the decrease.

All you people who see man as an infestuous species bound for extinction, rather than the true nature of the beast, to populate the Stars, are psychologically adolescents not mature enough to accept the responsibilities of life and the obligation to live it well.

Sad.

Are you a total fucking retard and just can't read? Or do you enjoy just being an asshole for the fun of it? No wonder Stephen started this thread.

I never said anything about God or man making anything. I said man has started the climactic changes that have spawned a rise in adverse weather patterns, (hurricaines, tornadoes and the like). I know well enough how the Earth is made and how it moves. I also know we aren't blameless for what's happening. If you disagree, you are one dilussional fool. You're the asshole who believes man is perfect and something lesser is causing this, aren't you? Maybe it's those aliens doing it to us?

I have no thoughts of professing to be the sooth-sayer of the ages, but I do look at the news and have made my own summations.

You profess man is the ruler of the stars, yet we can't even master our own lives, let alone a planet. Keep watching Star Trek and get a grip on reality.

Now I see why Stephen posted this in your favour. You really are a total dick-head.

You miss my point, WH. The entire 'pollution' of man on earth, since the beginning of time, does not equal one hour of the Krakatoa eruption. Man has no impact on the weather dynamics of the globe; none.

Those of you who have seen the pall over the Los Angeles basin, or the downwind, acid rain effects of coal fired plants in the eastern corridor, will no doubt scoff, and call names, but trust me, man has no discernible effect on global weather.

Eighty percent of our population, and virtually all of the eco freaks, live in metropolitan environments, and few if any, have ever even seen a real live cow, view their environment as a controlled one, within the concrete confines of the city.

Even if they do venture into the countryside, they cover their noses with a hanky at the first scent of cow manure and consider that, pollution.

Noticing the content of page one of the forum, I understand why Stephen put my name in his OP, the forum is dying from boredom.

I have a theory as to the earthquake in Japan...maybe it's all those building so close together pushing down the crust. Therefore, it has to pop up somewhere else. Right?

Or maybe it's all the people concentrated in one place?

Or maybe it's planet X...oh my.

I don't give a fuck whether man has any effect on global warming. Global warming is happening and I don't care if our "pollution" is the equivalent of a can of lighter fluid or a DC-10 redardant bomber filled with gasoline -- we don't need to be burning fossil hydrocarbons and returning all of that carbon back into the atmosphere whether it affects global warming or not.

Zeb...If I may...the 9.0 event was a megathrust event, a subduction of the Pacific Plate under Japan that caused a displacement of sea water, thus a tsunami (Japanese for 'harbor wave').

The interesting thing is that the entire Island of Japan was moved 8 feet in this event and that the earth's axis was changed and the length of a day was altered. Natural events, far more powerful than coastal construction, are the forces involved.

I believe that has been my point for a number of years. Whether or not burning fossil fuel 'causes' climate change is irrelevant. What is important is that we wean ourselves off dependency on countries run by weird-ass freakos like Hugo Chavez, Mohammar Gaddafi, etc. and clean up the air and the sea before we poison ourselves into extinction. This is not a 'Green vs. Economic Growth' issue, this is an issue of national security.

Your point is...that you don't like species, man, we get that, WH, however....

We were not born with a coat of warm fur and don't burrow into holes and thus, we discovered fire and voila...hot mammoth steaks!

Mankind progressed from burning dried animal dung, to burning bones and wood and peat and coal...all levels of progress to better our existence, and each level a step towards the next. Fossil hydrocarbons not only keep us alive, they are instrumental in many things we manufacture and create, including medicines and fertilizers to enhance crop growth.

The next phase of human growth will come along, in due time, unless it continues to be stifled by short sighted environmentalists who want to regress into a pastoral scene prior to the industrial revolution.

Now do you 'get it?'

I don't have much more use for the envirovangelists that want to go back to being hunter gatherers than I do for shills for the fossil fuel industry or idiot Randists like you who live in a fantasy world where human nature doesn't exist.

If I had my druthers, every drop of precipitatiion that fell higher than a hundred feet above mean sea level would flow through at least one hydroelectric turbine before it made it to the sea -- preferably one very hundred feet of elevation between where it fell and the sea. That would both eliminate our dependence on burning fossil fuels and reduce the price of energy to practically free.

He might think he's the friend of truth-- but truth is no friend to him.

But-- you knew this. We've known this. This is nothing new.

You're right, I did know this. But I get a tad riled when people out and out lie about something and then carry on as if no one is going to notice.

Is man made climate change going to cause an increase in tectonic activity? We'll just have to wait and see. I did start the thread as a bit of a joke but the idea seemed apropos given the recent catastrophe in Japan.

I wasn't all that riled when I caught ami with that original BS about a decrease in major earthquakes in recent time. It's just part of the way he does business.

But after being caught, to carry on as if he was still telling the truth...that was low, even by his standards.
I guess he'll carry on with the Amicus Veritas crappola when it should be Amicus non Veritas

Maybe, but what it would do to fish populations is horrifying to contemplate. A good mix of solar, wind, tidal and hydroelectric would be better. I have believed for a very long time that everything we need should be a diversified as possible.

Hey, Army Brat, Lithium Batteries for electric cars...made in China, environmental laws prohibit manufacture in the US, Solar cells also made in China, for the same reason...Wind Turbines made in Denmark and Holland and shipped to the US. What part of National Security don't you understand?

No new Nuclear Plants in 40 years, no new refineries in 40 years, in the US. Drilling and exploration of US assets prohibited. No new Natural Gas wells permitted, we import it from Canada and oil from Mexico. Self sufficiency, energy independence....what part of National.....well....you see the error in your ways?

I love your avatar and you always sound like a reasonable person...trusting my instinct, I challenge you to do a real search on a mix of solar, wind, tidal and hydro.

You will find, that at best, you can produce 15% of the energy our society requires just to maintain our current lifestyle and economic stability.

I think...that somewhere in the future, given the freedom to innovate, that someone will discover something akin to John Galt's static electricity engine, which will solve the world's dependence on fossil fuels. Until that time, we are what we are and unless you want to decimate the population of the world by starvation, which is what I think the true progressive agenda is, we must make do with what we have and not get caught up in environmentalist dreams.

Obviously not, as his impotence has reduced him to jabbering his nonsense on a porn discussion board that has virtually a no-ban policy. When he sinks any lower, there will be a tombstone at his head. Pathetic. :D
