1. Is there any scientific research into which gender is typically dominant or submissive? I understand the answer can be both at different times.

2. Research is the preferred answer but if it's not available, opinions are welcome.

[If the question has been answered elsewhere, please point me there.]

Do you mean as a sex thing?

Not that it is scientific but fetlife listed it's statistics a some time ago. It listed what gender members ID'd as along with how many ID's as sub, dom, master, kinkster, etc etc etc. I did a quick look for those stats again and wasn't able to find them.

But I am sure they are there somewhere.

Sorry

I'm not quite sure how I offended, but I'm sorry.

If you thought my question was intended to be inflammatory, you're wrong. It meant exactly what I said and no more.

I will be avoiding this thread.

No, there is no conclusive research.

WE are immersed in a culture that encourages dependency for women, and encourages men to deny their dependencies.

Society has assigned values to penetration, considering it "invasion" and "conquering" and all kinds of masculine virtues. It's assigned passive, non-masculine, and negative faults to engulfment. It's difficult for women and men to buck this-- like goldfish, we don't even see the water we swim in, most of the time.

Oh, but your participation would be so much fun! :D We'd only look silly if we all stood around agreeing with each other. And I know you'd disagree with me

No, there isn't. There won't be, either, because there's too much political hay being derived from the "battle of the sexes", and adding cool science to the mix will piss off too many special interests.

yeah.. white men HATE looking at scientific proof that they aren't so special after all.

Well, since I don't want anyone to feel left out, I'll add that so would white women, black women, asian men, Hispanic men and women, Asian women and... no, well, black men are special after all. :D (Sorry, my ego is immune to scientific data. :p)

Uh...that's what I was gonna write. Much less eloquently.

You know how the right wing communicates via sound bites? I'm developing sound bites to talk to the right wing with.

Yes., it's disgustingly special of people to expect a basic measure of equality. They got the vote- what more do they want?

Eloquently put, as always. But, don't worry, I'll get you in the end. :D

I was wondering about that.
I'll try to hit google to find that data...although it's just a biased sample.

Ahem.
Stell, you're gonna hate me for this, but, just like Ann Coulter, you will require a penis in order to be a right wing dick.

If I was to guess, and discount online stuff. I'd say more dom women.

in a way that answers the question. more men than women are dominant and more women than men are submissive. It doesn't necessarily matter how or why, just that that is the reality as it is now. whether a behaviour is learned or innate makes little difference at the end of the day.

It does to me, though.. But you knew that. :D

but really, does it? if you are with someone who has been socialised into a gender/sexual identity role, would you need to react to them differently to someone who might be innately within that role?

If I identify as a particular gender or sexuality am I a better person because it is innate rather than socialised? or vice versa?

But does one socialize into a gender/sexual identity role?

In the bigger picture of humanity, it makes a lot of difference!!

How do you figure?

For a start, learned behaviour is a big reason why humanity keeps repeating the same bad mistakes and assuming just because you are born a specific gender, that you should behave in set way or be put in your place for not doing so. Is also a good precedent for being brain washed into following the other sheep and not asking questions.
