Valentine's Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

I just assumed it was based on the score...is that not the case? Does the number of votes, readers, or category have any impact?

My first contest and I sure don't have a clue how this thing works...

It's like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop. The world may never know, lol.

:)

p.s. I really liked your story, by the way, lol. :)

Ah, thank you :)

I haven't got to yours yet but I will :) (blame the ordering on the Valentine's page :p).

Neither do we lol. It's the world's biggest secret. That way people can't rig it and be cheater cheater pumpkin eaters. :)

@firebrain~ sounds like a good reason, lol. I didn't get through near as many as I would have liked. There were lots of them! :)

Supposedly only the average of your scores decides the winners. The only other qualification is that you must have a minumum of 25 votes left after the sweeps to qualify.
Hope this helps
DG

DG's right. After the final sweep, the story with the highest score that has a minimum of 25 votes is the winner. A story with 4.80 and 25 votes will take first place over a story with 4.79 and 425 votes.

The only critical thing about votes is to have enough to qualify. That means having enough to survive the sometimes brutal sweeps. On average, most stories see around 20-35% of total votes swept. Lower vote totals and really high ones will often see a larger percentage, though.

That's the final track from the '10 Winter Holiday Contest ( you can scroll back through with the prev. links, if you want to backtrack )

I wonder if this contest usually gets the most submissions next to the other contests simply because the theme is love lol. Btw, does anyone know what the next contest will be? I think it's Earth Day right?

Yep, Earth Day -- and it starts hot on the heels of this one. March 28th.

I'm dying to know the results. Shall we have a round of blind predictions? Anyone taking bets? LOL

*bats eyelashes innocently*

Who me? No canned worms here. I don't even put them on my own fishing hook!

Ahh, thanks. I had a feeling it wasn't my time, as it's one minute 'til midnight. Although, knowing me, I might still be up. :)

I wonder if it's a really close race and that's why the results are late? (actually, my husband suggested that theory)

Thanks Luna :) I was surprised actually because I didn't get half as many votes or views as a lot of them (does this give me cult status?).

Well done to everyone else!

Congrats to all the winners!

Guess you're in the same boat as me now DG. Can't say that you'll never place any more :D

DG, you placed!. No more of that, "I'm just an amateur writer." OK? *giggles* Look at your stories and all the Hotness there and try to say that again. LOL Your story was so sweet and it also made tears well up.

I haven't read the 3rd place story yet. I will though.

I for one am quite pleased and giddy with my 4.71!!! I was slightly worried about it offending or lacking. Thanks to everyone that read, voted, commented, gave feedback, and supported my story!

Each contest gets more fun. This one was a blast. I loved connecting with new people too! Earth Day on my mind. I wonder: Can you slip a bit of Arbor Day in there too? :)

We should have gone with the blind predictions last night because I SO would have picked Firebrain for the win!

You had a great story, well-written and beautiful, but steamy too. It was even funny and quirky. You deserve the win just as much as all us ladies deserve a MONTAGE!

Congrats to DG and allusive1 too!

And Happy Valentine's Day to all!

Congrats to the winners and all the contestants. I was again unable to read or vote on any of the stories, but judging by the opinions of those here who have read the stories, I'm sure the wins were well-deserved.

Happy Valentine's Day to all.
