This is a place to talk of movies and actors and studios and producers and movie going experiences. What's the last movie you saw in a theater? What's your top ten favorite movies? What upcoming movie are you really hoping to see? What movie star is your favorite? What actor/actress is underrated/overrated? Any question pertaining to movies in general you can ask or answer here.

My top ten list

1.) the Star Wars Saga-these to me signify all the best qualities in American movies. Also marks to me the realization that even boring old grown ups can still have imagination.
2.) The Lord of the Rings trilogy-Made a stuffy horrendous book written by an amatuer into a compelling and awesome story.
3.) The Dark Knight-the best most realistic superhero movie yet.
4.) Serenity-the cap to the tragically short-lived series Firefly and a feast of Whedon humor and dialogue.
5.) Spiderman 2-really shows the strain of being a superhero and having a secret identity would have on a persons life, and asks the big question of why would anyone want to do it (no pay, no glory, no relationships) for the rest of their lives.
6.) 300-Testerone and masculinity defined in visual form
7.) Sin City-cool film noir done to perfection.
8.) Magnificent 7-Love the idea of various people who generally wouldn't be seen together joining up to protect the helpless.
9.) Terminator 2-Arnold in the role that defined him
10.) Toy Story 3-one of the few movies that made me cry at the end.

Oh come on Veroe, Toy Story 3 was totally awesome. For my money it was the best picture this year. I've not been so emotionally invested in a movie in some time

True. I was really surprised how good it was. I was expecting sequelitis to have set in, but wow that movie nearly made me cry at the end. Me.

Last movie I saw in a movie theater

Me and my brother went to see True Gritt in the first week of January. We wanted to go out and spend quality brother time before school started again and he'd have no time for seeing movies.

It was a pretty good movie too.

The last movie I saw in the theater was just last weekend when I took my niece to see 'Tangled'. I enjoyed it immensely, and even though she's a teenager, she did too.

Before that was True Grit a few weeks ago. When I first heard they were remaking True Grit, I thought, 'Good luck with that!'. Anyone crazy enough to try to upstage John Wayne in one of the roles that defined his career has got guts, if nothing else. I thought there was no way it could be done any better, and certainly not even close.

But I was pleasantly surprised. It is a really good movie, and you can watch it without feeling the need to constantly compare it to the original. It's just a great movie on its own.

Yeah, I cried at the end of that one too. All three of those movies are wonderful films.

thinks back

I haven't seen a movie in theater for a while, might be RED was the last thing I saw. It's RED or Inception at any rate. Oh, wait, I saw TRON: Legacy in theaters. Saw it in IMAX 3d, and it was fun.

top favorite comedies

1.) Monty Python and the Holy Grail-makes me piss myself laughing
2.) The Marx Bros.' Duck Soup-I love the witty humor of groucho
3.) O brother where art thou-a hilarious take on the oddyssey
4.) Monty Python's Life of Brian-an absurd look on the life and times of Jesus
5.) Kung Fu Hustle-part Bruce Lee part Looney Tunes and it works so well.
6.) 5th Element-absurd but good
7.) Major League-I don't even like baseball but this movie is hillarious and a believable plot
8.) Galaxy Quest-a hillarious spoof on scifi movies and star trek in particular
9.) Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure-much maligned but I think its really funny
10.) Idiocracy-tell me the few of you who've seen this movie that it isn't what you think of when you watch survivor or stand in line at the DMV or wrestling or some comercials.

Megan Fox and Olivia Wilde are overrated/overexposed. In the case of the latter I swear I saw three movie trailers with her in it in a row late last year.

Still need to check out Red, thought it looked funny.

Tron legacy- or the best MUSIC video ever! It's what I saw last at the theater.

Zom and I are huge movie buffs- okay him more so than me.

Best foreign flicks
1-Amelie- it's so cute
2- Paris Je t'aime- omg. The mimes.. and the end? I always get goosebumps!
3- The curse of the golden flower- this movies is absolutely EPIC. Honestly. My brain explodes every time I watch it.
4-Run Lola Run- it's still so good.

I have more, but these were the first that popped out at me, and honestly I wanted to discuss them.

And veroe- you can't just throw out lists like that without justifying your choices, like I get that they're good flicks, but honestly those lists are subjective. I like the "why" of it.

RED is very funny Veroe, I think you'd like it.

Ahren, yeah Olivia Wilde has like three movies coming out in rapid succession. I think it was Tron, Cowboys and Aliens, and some other similar movie. Over exposed is king of accurate, but I think Olivia Wilde has a bit of acting talent where as Megan Fox is just kind of there.

Oh, Veroe, I almost died laughing when I first watched Duck Soup. I saw it with my younger brother and our mom, we all fell over at some point. Totally hilarous classic in the realm of comedy.

And of course Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I once almost spewed soda from my nose just because someone in the room was reading the sweedish subtitles during the opening credits.

She has some talent but not enough for me to care about her. I'm enjoying House a lot more now that she's not on it, but soon she'll come back and replace the more interesting and cuter Amber Tamblyn. :/

eh, I quit caring about House midway through the third season, or maybe fourth. It all just started blurring together, and at that point I quit going out of my effort to see a show. I mean, apart from Hugh Laurie in the asylum a bit ago it just feels flat to me.

Problem solved.

I wasn't into JRR either until I attended a weekend long reading party....put a new light on it all...

:)

Wait, Ausus likes Lovecraft? If so that's win, the world needs more spreading the word of Cthulhu

I love you even more now...JRR can't write...

giggles
It's true. Those books were one big homage to jesus and christianity. Blech. Him and CS Lewis... Two cases where the movies were better. Although Narnia is a great series, I just got tired of the constant overtones.

Then I have to bring up "The golden Compass" series as an opposite to both the movies/books above. The "Compass" series of books were awesome reads... the movie sucked.

I'm suddenly reminded of the Coon and Friends three parter in South Park.

The evil lord Cthulu is a tool for Eric Cartman. :D

I'm so happy Guillermo Del Toro is finally making At the Mountains of Madness I'm anxious to finally see a Sho'guth partially spawned from his imagination.

Uggg, watched Jennifer's Body this weekend (hubby's choice, not mine) ... what a waste of 2 hours of my life .... (and I usually enjoy at least looking at Megan Fox but that wasn't any good either)

Lose 12 sanity points.
That said, I have mixed feelings about doing Lovecraft movies. Don't get me wrong, I love Del Toro, but, much like whatshername in the LOTR movies, the glowy elf with her unearthly beauty that they did by, well, just making her all glowy, these creatures are never going to be the horrors that they need to be. Pretty much by definition.

It might actually be better to take a page from Jaws and not even show them really.
