Just got a feedback today that pissed me off. The reason that it pissed me off wasn't that it was an overly negative one but it just sort of hit me the wrong way maybe. The comment was about the 1st chapter of my incest series where I make the remark that the brother (who is an attorney) is one of the best prosecutors in the private sector.

the comment was that "there are no such things as Private Prosecutors in the US and you shouldn't make things up. The fact that you will just blatantly lie about something has made me decide that your series is certainly not worth reading."

First off believe it or not I did research that little fact and in the state of RI (where I am from) there are circumstances where a plaintiff can bring a private attorney on board (The only restriction is that someone from the AG's office must still be involved) So this was in fact correct. The second part is what got me however as this is fiction, and erotic fiction at that, there should be a bit of a suspension of reality in the first place. It's not like I said my character had a 20" cock or had slept with 20,000 women or came from Krypton. To me if a detail like that would stop you from reading something you may be a bit to high brow for the site (see the general board). Of course the last thing that irked me is as you have probably expected the comment was anonymous meaning I couldn't even tell the jerk I was right. I think I prefer the plain old "You suck" to something this stupid. So as I just vented I thought I would see if anyone wanted to share their worst or most annoying comment.

Here's part of a recent one I received from Anonymous:

You have a supportive fan base, a bit like Sarah Palin and just as worthy.

 And I don't even frequent the political threads.

Wow! Talk about a left handed compliment!

I left it . . . so far.

This is my runner up but it's more funny than annoying;
Keep in mind I write in the incest category

"I take offense at the violent and sadistic sex that your characters engage in. Rough sex like that should be reserved for BDSM or Non consent categories. It has no place anywhere else especially in incest where a brother should lovingly embrace his sister. I take exception to Mark tying Megan to the bed simply put;
That is no way to treat your sister!"

This to me is an instant classic.

I get annoyed by lack of research in stories all the time. Whether yours is right or wrong, why do you expect your readers to have low standards?

You get non-sensical feedback or something which is designed to bait you? Ignore it. No good comes from stewing or following it up.

Don't expect to readers to automatically suspend their belief because it's fiction. You might not have to be entirely realistic but you do need to plausible.

That's fucking awesome. It would be worth writing incest just to get a comment like that one!

One of the best comments I ever got began with: "this is the most bore girl on girl story I ever read I took a nap...." Then he complained that my butch narrator wasn't pretty and feminine and he didn't want to read about boyish women. The entire story was filled with her praises of her Big, beautiful, and very femme lover...

That one was the most fun but I actually have gotten quite a few that don't like that my Brother/sister have an S&M lifestyle. Apparently sibling sex is supposed to be light and fluffy. Funny thing is I came across one of those people praising another author for his story which featured 3 brothers screwing their sister. So gang bang is okay but whips and chains no? I think someone should put out the acceptable incest behavior guide for me.

To me it's reasonable suspension of reality that is okay. Personally I don't question a whole lot if the story is enjoyable and it's not really over the top. I read for fun and sometimes just like to go for a ride. To me it's like a really bad movie that you find yourself hooked into.

Roadhouse is a great example. Bad acting, minimal plot, stereotypes galore, and action that is so far fetched it could be in a comic book. But when I see it i shut down the brain and just roll with it. Guilty pleasure i guess would be the term.

I'm writing a novel, and so far I've actually completed around 3 chapters of it. I sent my younger brother the first chapter (it's obviously not porn-related) and he said I wrote like his high school friends. He said it delicately, but still...

Ow.

Now that's no way to treat your sister!!
(see my previous post for that to make more sense;) )

Incest fetishists are nuts. :p

Hey! I... oh hell you got me! I'm an only child who has an incest fetish. All stemmed from a role play with the wife. When we were looking for a new scenario we hadn't tried and I had tossed out how about brother sister? yeah been hooked ever since.

I had that same role play going with a boyfriend, back in the seventies. Now-- I can't really remember what the excitement of it was about...

I had only put it out there as like a joke. Like I said really taken by surprise at how much her whispering "little brother" in my ear while we were screwing did it for me.

My 4th and 5th chapters of my series which is when the older sister seduces her brother is done almost word for word on that role play

We've been role playing for ten years. everything from the simple Boss/intern to very complicated ones where we play multiple characters over several weekends and have to write down what were doing to keep track.

We are now once again at the point of what next. She laughingly tossed out Mother/son. Have to say not sure I can go that far.

I had someone send me an email that they did not like lesbian stories because they were immoral. I email him back and told him that perhaps he should find another category to frequent.

Okay I know I'm speaking as a typical man, but what kind of fucking deviant do you have to be not to appreciate lesbians!!!

Hey seriously do you write a lot of them? I have an idea for 2 but so far have only written one lesbian scene and it was in and incest series where the sister is by and it was a flashback of her meeting her former lover for the first time. Care to take a look and see what you think? I don;t have a lot to go on. I can put the link in the post It's Siblings with Benefits Chapter 8 and I believe the flashback starts at either the end of the first page with the "I met Laura at the Black Flame"

Would like to get an opinion on the sex and interaction.

Is Roadhouse the worst bad-film you admit to liking?

Depends on the genre I grew up on creature double feature schlock movies. This is one of those questions that I will hesitantly say yes to Roadhouse fro a mainstream movie but if you said another dumb one I'd be "Oh yeah! forgot that one."

Now worst all around movie I liked that I know was really bad but couldn't help myself? The manitou. Came out in the late 70's hideous special effects but I loved it. Was one of those "if they had just done a little better" It was based by a novel by Graham Masterton that was excellent so maybe that's why I liked it I saw through the cracks.

The most annoying feedback I ever got was some idiot who listed 10-12 steps for writing a Lit story. I read the steps: what they were was an outline for the types of stories that just bore me shitless, and which you can find a LOT of here.
Love my stories or hate them, I'm going to keep writing them to please me. If you have the wit to appreciate them, good for you. If not, go find those stories that fit the idiot's outline.
Second most annoying was for a story in which I had a couple of Hispanic guys cast as the villians. I don't have anything against Hispanics, I just wanted to write a story to highlight one of my regular character's proficiency in Spanish. Feedback from Anonymous was very racist. It was a comment rather than feedback, and it was the only one I ever deleted. Negative comments I leave alone and I don't mind other readers seeing them.

Cool.
The question, "What's the worst film you'll admit to truly liking/enjoying?" is one I like to use to get to know people.

Lesbians live next door to me. They and their friends look like McDonalds characters, especially the purple thing that resembles a bean-bag chair wth feet.

The most annoying feedback I receive are the ones that point out an error - and are right.

They aren't annoying, but helpful, when they direct me to mistakes such as changing the protagonist's name three-quarters of the way through the story.

They are annoying when they point out an historical error that I knew about and had ignored because most of the readers wouldn't know about it, and the story reads better for it. I don't mean glaringly obvious errors such as a wrong date for the Battle of Hastings, or Shakespeare's clock in Julius Caesar, but minutiae such as the author's pseudonym on the first edition of his book which we all know now by his real name.

Such feedback is annoying, but I welcome it, I would miss it and I am grateful even if I have to grit my teeth when writing "Thanks".

Knowing that I was wrong, deliberately wrong, is one thing. Being reminded that I was wrong, is another.
