I can't speak for anyone else, but my approach was wince, grunt, urgently wave the nurse over and get her to juice me up until I could breathe again. How'd you sit still for that?

Glad they were able to give you more.I can't speak for anyone else, but my approach was wince, grunt, urgently wave the nurse over and get her to juice me up until I could breathe again.
I too would smirk disapprovingly if anyone tried to count my freckles. I prefer to have a romantic, mystical number of them, like the stars in the sky versus something more concrete so let me have my fantasy! When we were dating I would threaten to "count freckles," which always elicited a disapproving smirk.
Ah, that redhead experience of having a pile of highly restricted pain meds that don't do a damn thing :-/I too would smirk disapprovingly if anyone tried to count my freckles. Anecdotally, when I had surgery to repair my torn rotator cuff, the anesthesiologist clearly had experience with redheads because his first question to me was if I was a natural ginger so he could accurately adjust the dosage if needed.
Surgeries for me do not go well. I don't know if it's related or not, cause I also have a bad inner ear which leads to the most horrific carsickness.Personally, I've just accepted that I'm gonna feel things most people get numbed up for.
To date:
wisdom tooth removal x4
Root canal x2
Biopsy x3
Stitches x5 ( one of which I was emotionally numb for.)
Dunno how an actual surgery will go. Not looking forward to finding out.
But currently, when I'm hurting from something my husband gets concerned because I basically have to be seriously injured for me to notice something hurts.
I also get horrible motion sickness, but I don't think it's related.Surgeries for me do not go well. I don't know if it's related or not, cause I also have a bad inner ear which leads to the most horrific carsickness.
In and out surgery to remove my gallbladder, became an over night thing when I spent the whole rest of the day vomiting any time I'd move my head.
C-section with a spinal block. I was fine, I felt some tugging, which was weird, but no problems until recovery. I spent the rest of the day randomly vomiting and out of it.
Yeesh, never been so glad that my wisdom teeth never formed properly. I mean, they had to be removed but they basically had no roots. They were kinda just shallowly set discs of calcium and enamel.I also get horrible motion sickness, but I don't think it's related.
Worst experience was wisdom tooth removal. All four at once. I was shaking after and had to drive myself home. (Only had local anesthetic.) Promptly vomited once home.
Hydromorphone is the only thing I've ever had that actually controlled my pain. I took it exactly once for a kidney stone that resulted in me vomiting from the sudden sharp pains of the stone moving and cutting into me. I don't remember much beyond apologizing to the nurse for bothering her and wasting her time.
I've literally glued my own injuries together instead of going to get stitches. I can get veterinary glue for $5, way cheaper than a $40 urgent care visit.
Oh, have you tried the alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol thing they were talking about in the AH coffee shop?Hydromorphone is the only thing I've ever had that actually controlled my pain. I used super glue until I became allergic to it, lol.Yeesh, never been so glad that my wisdom teeth never formed properly. I mean, they had to be removed but they basically had no roots. They were kinda just shallowly set discs of calcium and enamel.
Glue at least sounds more hygienic than some one's sewing kit. Also, my SO's previous job kept a bunch of super glue in the first aid kit to just quickly patch em back up and send them back to cooking.
But yeah, I just try to avoid surgery at all costs these days.
Yeah. Doing that currently for a shoulder injury. It makes it ache instead of hurt.Oh, have you tried the alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol thing they were talking about in the AH coffee shop?

Also, dental floss or fishing line make for better homegrown stitches.
It takes two weeks for pain pills to have maximum efficency.Yeah. Doing that currently for a shoulder injury. It makes it ache instead of hurt.
Thankfully, I have plenty of dull sewing needles around, since I'd only do that to someone I dislike, lol.And if you file or snip the barb off a fishing hook you can use it for a needle

Also, ice for a new injury, heat for an old one, and alternate the two for a chronic pain.Learned that in my massage classes.
Ah I see, not gonna waste the good stuff on someone you dislike?Thankfully, I have plenty of dull sewing needles around, since I'd only do that to someone I dislike, lol.
I'll stick to glue for myself.
And yeah, I'm at the alternating stage currently. It's an old injury that I aggravated while moving. Mattresses are heavy.
