If you're a fan of all those "lost world," Shangra-La and hidden kingdom stories (especially those ruled by Amazon women :D), and I certainly am, you are gonna love this!

And here are the photographs.

I should add that Amazon Women are not included. You'll have to provide your own

Sooooo, you wanna go spelunking with us

XXXploring unknown depths of passion and desire. Bound tightly together by lust and ropes and misplaced feelings about the darkness of our relationship.

No dinosaurs? No cave men? No strange creatures of any kind? Phooey, some secret cave and jungle that is.

C'mon Kong, we're goin' back to Skull Island. :D

You haven't explored far enough. Those are some big and extensive caves yanno.

I am totally geeking out over this. I have done a tiny amount of caving as a kid-- my dad loved geology and has his name on a little cave in Yosemite (the map that is) that he mapped.

But this-- this is majesty. :rose:

The National Geographic cable TV channel did a 1-hour episode on their exploration of this cave the other day. It was fascinating. The biggest cave I'd been in before this was Carlsbad Caverns when my dad was stationed at Fort Bliss TX back in the mid-50s.

Thank you for posting the link. I heard about this earlier this morning and couldn't get into the other link that I found. Magnificent. With or without the aforementioned spelunk...

Stella and 3 can talk me into 'caving' any time they want--and I'm claustrophobic!:eek:
Dude, if you could get claustrophobic in THOSE caves, you have one serious case of claustrophobia ;) And you call yourself a Bear!

There could be "Lost World" dinosaurs in those caves--and Shangra-La, and a Forbidden Kingdom ruled by amazon tribes...and none of them could know about the others! This is one friggin' huge and amazing system of caves we're talking about.

It's got jungles and monkeys!

I feel in love with geology in high school when one of the science teachers taught a class in it. For a brief while I considered becoming a geologist. I'm geeking out with you on this.

I've visited those! They were the first real caves I'd ever seen--and I was in college at the time--as compared to the sort of nooks and crannies that kids call "caves" when they find them in the sides of hills. Awesome.

Geology, the science that divides pretty rocks from ugly ones. :D

Beautiful caves. I looked at the pictures. Massive is the only word that fits. I'll have to read the article now.

You should have looked into petroleum geology, you could be working with me if you had. ;)

There are even more caves? Hmmm...maybe we'll stick around then.

What? Oh, okay, but go outside, I'll wait.

That darn Kong, I told him to go wee-wee before we left Skull Island. :D

Now we know where that waterfall came from :D

Actually, there were no 'Amazon women.' Francisco de Orellana was the first to sail down the length of the great river and had several skirmishes with natives along the way. Up to modern times, there has never been a discovery of a tribe of warrior women in the Amazon basin. If you had ever beent here, you might have found tribes of natives where the men carry maybe 20 pounds of fat. They have what appear to be breasts. However, under the 20 pounds of fat are business muscles. Many of the tribes are quite warlike and they would, in the not too distant past, kill those who intruded in their lands.
European diseases (measles, mumps and even small pox) have killed many of the natives and scaled back the tribes that still live in the areas. In fact small pox killed off many of the Tawantinsuyu (miscalled Inca,) which allowed the Spanish to conquer them.

*sigh* Don't you know anything R.R.? Kingdoms ruled by Amazon Women can only be found in unexplored, cavernous worlds like this one, or on the planet Venus (where they have blond hair and wear seashells over their breasts).

That's why they were never found on the Amazon river even if it is named after them.
Isn't that Allard Chardon on the left? I KNEW she seemed familiar!

Though I like 3's version better the pedant in me requires that I point out that the original Amazon women were real. They were the women of a fierce tribe of horse nomads who lived on the steppe north of the Black Sea. In time they migrated east and left their genes among the modern day Mongol nomads. If you don't believe this, do a google image search for blond Mongols. They exist and their DNA can be traced back to the burial mounds on the south western steppe. Bad? Stella would have loved these women. The Greeks were scared shitless of them and deservedly so.

However, on the subject of caves, those Vietnamese ones, I could deal with real easy. So long as there's light and enough room to move around freely I'm fine. Rappelling, ladies?

So, I am sure it is based on my age and the media presentation while I was growing up, but I have a negative bias whenever Vietnam is brought up. More of a knee-jerk reaction that I am able to overcome. Anyone else have that response?
