Why is it only acceptable for clothing to be unisex for a woman and not a man???? How many men would like to wear a item or items of womens clothing without being labeled a weirdo or such.

Can a decent explination come out of this question???

agree Men should be free to wear anything they want without labeling but it will never happen but respect to those who do:)

Because for many men, being associated with anything womanly is the most hideous worst insult a man can possibly receive. Because women are disgusting like that.

And that's something you guys will have to begin to address. Women can't do too much about it.

It's true, and it's frustrating. A unisex teeshirt is just a men's teeshirt with a new name. Unisex jeans are just men's jeans. Damnit, why can't all clothing be unisex? It's just clothes. I wear my men's shirts with my skirts and sometimes I want to wear thick wool socks... why should those be men's only? Why can I only buy thin, not very warm at all stretchy socks?

I don't get labeled when I wear men's teeshirts, men's socks, men's hats... granted I'm wearing them with skirts. Ah, the glorious anchronisms... so why should a guy get labeled if he's wearing a woman's shirt, women's jeans... et all, et all. Heck, I can buy boxers in the women's underwear sections now...

And the sad thing is I'm pretty sure most of this 'fashion' comes from male executives. Let's bring on a revolution: in which people wear the clothes they're comfortable in, screw gender labels, bring on the comfort!

Unfortunately, as this debate is gender skewed in favor of women (we can wear anything unless we're talking to a hyper-conservative) it's up to men to defy convention and show the world that the label on your pants doesn't matter.

It's because we (men) are way too centered on our ( the collective sense of our) fragile egos. Stella has hit it...it's not so much what women would think ( some exceptions, I'm sure) but men can't let go of the macho thing.

Sad part is, my butt looks better in my wife's jeans.....

fear of being judged as substandard,as a male is a powerful motivator, and it's not just how other men see us, women as a whole can be very very harshly judgmental, more so in my own observation

That's a whole different issue, because OP wasn't talking about passing but simply about wearing something he likes to wear.

But-- yeah, women can close ranks at times, I have seen what you're talking about. I ascribe it to the sense of insecurity so many women have been raised with--a different insecurity than most men get-- and the way in which women are judged by how they look-- as much, if not more, than by what they accomplish.

If the whole world knew that most every guy has at SOME point worn or wanted to wear women's clothing ( or shoes, lingerie, whatever) I wouldn't keep my persuasions confined to the bedroom ( and Lit). The guys all know they've done it...but we don't exactly discuss it over beers. It's a secret so closely held that men won't even admit it to themselves....no wonder it comes as such as shock to so many women. I'd love to be able to do my shopping for jeans in the juniors or womens' clearance section.....rather than pay too much for men's jeans that do me no favors.

I assume this will start to becom common not that far in the future.

But right now, I don't want to be one of those who start it. :D

I really like to look androgynous, and wearing some clothing items that are generally more thought off as feminine would help a lot. But right now, I think it would make most people see me as a weird guy, so it's male clothes that are acceptable for women.

i wear my suntan pantyhose openly in public and no one notices,,i keep a sharp eye out for this...
i just wish i could wear the skirts and heels i have also out in public,,,
im a guy who likes to wear womens clothes even tho i dont try to pass,,im just a guy in clothes geared for women,,,
and i dont think its fair that only the women get to wear all the fun clothes,,
men have suits, shirts, pants, shorts, shoes, boxers or tighty whities, and ties, HOW BORING........
