The Authors' Hangout 2010 Halloween Contest Support Thread

Why it's 'cause you're so much fun, Freddie. Watching you fall apart like that, time and time again. That's our Freddie. :D

And because you've been such an insufferable pain in the butt around here for four years that you fully deserve it.

Just a couple of comments about the contest. Hate to go there, might confuse a few people.
;)

WickedWendyDru's story - I fully thought it would come in first place. Long stories that are written well (and make no mistake, hers is very well written) have an advantage- or so I believe. The readers who stick through all the pages and make it to the end, usually vote high. Nothing scientific here, just my personal observations. The only danger was in the very low number of reads. With fewer votes, it's easier for one or two trolls to really change the score.

The final sweep really bounced the scores around. I'd been moving up and down from 4.74-4.78 for a week or more. After the final sweep I bounced up to 4.80. Back down to 4.78 now. That's surprising with a few hundred votes. I don't know what the winner's scores were, I didn't follow the results that closely, but that's a pretty good score in a contest. Too bad Dark didn't track this one.

As for only "certain" categories being allowed to win, my one and only win was in the "Loving Wives" category. So clearly if that category can produce a winner, almost any category can. Improbable, yes, impossible, hardly.

On to editing a story in the contest... I think Laurel cleared that one up nicely. No rules broken, no foul. Do I think the contests could use some additional rules? Yes. But I'll play the game as it's spelled out.

Rule changes? Limiting entries I can see as a valid rule. Limiting stories to those that actually follow the theme would seem reasonable. 50 votes to win no longer seems to be as difficult as it once was, so lowering the competition requirement to 25 votes doesn't seem as necessary as it once was. I even like the idea of stories in the contests being posted anonymously until the contest is over, but I doubt that would go over well.

Just a few thoughts. Congratulations to the winners, and the numerous contestants that posted top-notch stories that didn't quite place at the end.

Christmas contest is just around the corner - no complaints about editing this time around, everyone knows the rules now...
:D

Hey Tx, what was that about the editing? I missed that post. (I know you're not directing at me...just curious)

Tracking these things is a full time job -- unless you take the lazy way like I did in the last one. Once the list is full, it takes over an hour each night to check everything individually and put it in the spreadsheet. More if tracking votes and views.

Just wasn't in the cards this time out. I didn't even finish my Halloween story from last year that was already 90% done. Hurt my back, stayed off the computer for a few days, and fell off the writing horse. Started playing DQ9 to try to recharge my batteries... and I'm still playing it *laugh* Around 180 hours in with probably at least 120 of that on post-game content.

Starting to get the writing bug back, but I still have a couple of goals I want to accomplish on the game. Not going to go for everything, because I'd probably have to put in another 180 hours to do that.

Happy Hallowe'en/Samhain/All Hallows Eve everyone! (those that celebrate). May only the spirits of light visit you and may you find comfort knowing your loved ones have drawn near in this 'tween time. Open your mind to their presences; to signs, to messages, to love. Honor those who walked the path before you. Stay safe! Keep alert! Be naughty! Have fun! :)

*waves* Nice to see you Dark!

QUOTE y’all But I do think the scoring is a little bit unfair. Someone with a 4.7 score from 26 votes would be ranked over someone with a 4.6 score from 2,600 votes.

Which my dear person is why we have A.I.R.! But I wouldn’t repeat that opinion again if I were you – it sounds far too scourian

Yes you’re quite right – any category can conceivably win. But the reality is that stories entered in certain categories are at a huge disadvantage. Everyone knows it. Owlwhispers analysis has proven it. The real question is one for LAUREL :cattail: and it is – Why don’t you fix this imbalance? It’s not a complicated process – just do it!

As to “LAUREL clearing that one up nicely” and there being “no complaints about editing this time around” I’m afraid I have to differ with your interpretation.

Yes the QUEEN :cattail: has ruled that editing is fine but she hasn’t answered (or even addressed) the more important question and that is: If a story is dramatically changed part way through the contest will the votes already cast for it still count?

There can only be two possible responses – yes or no. If her answer is yes I’m afraid I’ll continue to complain. Votes cast for one story should never, never be transferred to another. And if you can’t understand why I’m sorry…

As for your proposed changes: I heartily agree as I’ve championed all three in the past (although I’d suggest 100 votes as a minimum). I’m not so sure about the anonymous idea – personally I’d like to see all these ALTS that pop up every contest with their first story identified by the LITEROTICA names they normally use.

turn out the lights the parties over...

On the 20th of October the palace was worried. This thread had only 380 posts on it. And like only twenty-five hundred views. That after more than a month! I had decided to sit this thread out and had only made 3 small, friendly posts in the first few days of the thread.

So the call went out - SCOURIES! SCOURIES!! SCOURIES!!! It reverberated through the harems of the palace and down into the forum world of LITEROTICA. It eventually even reached South Beach.

“We need you, you have to post,” I was told when I finally called the palace. I resisted at first. But how could I not help out the people who’d helped put me on easy street. Who’d paid for the yacht. “Please jim, only you can bring this thread back,” a Royal Prince pled. So in the end I finally agreed.

Ten days later the thread now sits at almost 730 posts and over 8100 views.

Famous people like cloudy, MANU, ravenfox, serena, miss sin, ace, boxy, mia, anna maria came out of the woodwork and stepped up to the plate. Even the great freddie appeared. And yes, she was so happy that even her majesty made a surprise post.

The thread had triumphed. oggman smiled. Happiness reigned in AHland. This was promising to be the best and fairest contest in the history of the site.

And then that joy was dissolved when miss lunaticerotica innocently noted that one author, the winner in fact, had changed the ending of his story midway through the contest.

What I’d like to know is if I’d been set up right from the start. Was scourian goodwill exploited to get a little more attention for the contest? Did their majesty’s knowingly fix the results to favor the wrongdoer to garner even more attention?

If so I’m disappointed. Hurt even.

And yet I’ll slog on… I’m an eternal optimist – LITEROTICA contests can get better…

But all good things must end. It’s time to move on. Hey litfan we’re closing this thread down now. Please turn off the lights when you leave. You can catch up to us over in the WINTER CONTEST thread when you’ve finished sweeping up all those dead votes…

Hey! Who the fuck turned off the lights?

I'm still here reading stories.

It's wicked dark in here without the light and after reading some of those scary stories, well it's a good thing I have Polo with me.

I'm gonna go head over to the Winter thread now.

Gees, if it wasn't for that Scouries guy, we'd have no one to love or to hate (lol).

It's just too bad Miami sucks at football and (lol), at basketball for that matter, after losing to the Boston Celtics.

"Go green!"

I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel, I think. Anyone else interested in claiming Ogg's Last Place Award?

I got that beat, at the last minute I had 2 votes cut from my tally, leaving me with a grand total of 23 at the competition's close, so I didn't even qualify! And to think, a few hours earlier, I was celebrating a score raise due to 2 other votes being removed.

HALLOWEEN CONTEST 2010

On behalf of my boss and all of us associated with the ASSOCIATION of INDEPENDENT READERS I'd like to offer congrats to the OFFICIAL LITEROTICA winners (except for the person who changed his story midway through the contest).

I’d also like to post the HALLOWEEN CONTEST winners as picked by the ASSOCIATION of INDEPENDENT READERS. These selections are not official LITEROTICA winners. Instead they were designed and financed with help from ScouriesWorld to reward stories that were the #1 choices of our readers.

Not surprisingly in a contest that is decided by the votes of our readers, the A.I.R. winners list for the HALLOWEEN contest is dominated by those contestants who are on the LITEROTICA FAVORITES list. And even more interesting this month is that the authors of 5 out of the 9 MOST READ and HIGHEST SELLING stories in site history are winners this time! In fact this just might be our greatest list of winners ever.

We at A.I.R. would also like to send out our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the lovely sarahhh. Get well hon!

The author andtheend, who continues to believe these special contests are SURVIVOR contests was also disqualified from consideration. Stories by other authors were disqualified for category problems, failure to follow the theme, or other major infractions.

All Non-Erotic stories were disqualified as well as the twenty-seven stories identified by our association computers as ALT stories.

Congratulations to our winners – well done!

Under the ASSOCIATIONS rules a story/author can only win one prize in any contest.

So scouries wins another one of his own bogus contests. Surprise, surprise.

Grand_High_Poobah ake Gabby aka Gabriella L. (Blowup doll, fake secretary, and one of scouries many alts.)

Since there is no such thing as the ASSOCIATION of INDEPENDENT READERS (A.I.R.) associated with or from Lit, except in scouries head, it can't sanction anything but Scouries usual hot air.

Since scouries and company can't win a REAL contest, he makes up his own list of winners using stories he steals from the real Literotica contests. All of the authors above were entered in the Lit Contests. Scouries just copied the lists minus the people he don't like. Used his fudge factor and dropped the categories he doesn't like. Instant winners. As you'll notice he is a multi winner of his own contest as is his female alt. Also there are anywhere from two to four of BFW's alts on that list also.

Just more of Scouries phony bullshit.

Here are the real winners of the Literotica Halloween Contest.

Manu and I would like to thank all the authors who submitted during the month, and all the other months for that matter! We've tallied the reader's votes, and are happy to announce the winners of our 2010 Halloween Contest.

First Place ($150 Cash Prize Winner):
Samhain Cider by harding

Second Place ($100 Cash Prize Winner):
Divination of My Heart by LoveBird1929

Third Place ($75 Cash Prize Winner):
Football Bet FTW! by Tx Tall Tales

Thanks again to everyone who voted, submitted, or was involved in Literotica in any way. You are all awesome!

I have looked through this thread for claimants for the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Halloween 2010 Contest and I think that glynndah's rating is the lowest. Is that right? If so it would be a high score for Last Place.

While I wait for someone else to admit/claim lower, I have another award:

I'm strangely proud of this.

A  from the good little witch.

Glynndah, you're as cute as your story was *hehe* And, if you expanded and revealed the end of the "tail," I'm sure some naughtiness could be found lurking in that story. But, I for one, liked it as is.

is this the oggman we once knew and loved?

What the hell?

Here I am innocently a bed, resting up for the weekend ahead and bam, out of the blue this old English guy takes a shot at me. On a thread that was closed days ago.

And this aimed at a guy who was invited in by OFFICIAL PALACE invitation to save a thread that was going nowhere. A failed thread in fact. A thread whose THREADMASTER just happens to be this same old English guy.

Now my theory is that even though said THREADMASTER sports some sort of regal headwear in his little pic (does he think he's QUEEN LAUREL'S little brother or something), he's not that special. In fact his arbitrarily announcing an award and its winner without any input just further demonstrates what is wrong with the whole LITEROTICA contest system.

Who does he think he is? God? My suggestion sir is that you stick to thread management and 25 word stories and that you leave the subject of CONTESTS and AWARDS to the grown ups.

FYI below I'll list the people who posted on this thread. Seeing there seems to be some demand for an evaluation of the merits of the various posts and posters on this thread, and seeing the next SPECIAL CONTEST doesn't start for a few more days, Gabby has agreed to oversee

I nominate Luna for Friendliest and most encouraging poster! And thanks to Scouries we have the numbers to prove it!!

Take out all 72 of Luna's posts and the place just wouldn't nearly be the same!

Just as a side note, Hey Jim, I'm sure some of my posts where sequels to previous ones, so can that disqualify me??? Pretty please!! :D

<Laughs>

Congrats!

Enjoy it while you can cuz I'm entering the next one and plan on giving you a run for your money witchy one!!

Oh, please do. Thus far, my story consists of a title; a first sentence "Blankety Blank hated Christmas."; some writery stuff in the middle ~ maybe even some sex; and then a killer closing line.

Beat that if you dare!

Uh.

I think there's some sort of rule or tradition about not winning the last place award two contests in a row.
