… your stories (like most on LITEROTICA) are rated far too high….One would expect under normal circumstances some sort of bell curve if we plotted all the scores. Maybe 10% between 1 and 2 and 10% between 4 and 5. Maybe 20% between 2 and 3 or 4 and 5. With the balance (40%) between 3 and 4…Or if the thousands of readers who clicked away from it before they got to the end had voted

QUOTE Owlwhisper Your bias against contest submissions may be showing for I think you've badly underrated the entry scores (if the Earth Day contest is any indication). In that contest, a week before the contest closed, of the 60 entries 50% were between 4 and 5, 47% were between 3 and 4 and only two of the entries were sub-3; none were below 2 (the all-entry average was 3.89). As of yesterday, fully two-thirds of the entries were between 4 and 5, and the remainder were between 3 and 4. None were below 3 and the overall average was 4.15. As a general rule, a distribution of story averages is so highly skewed toward high scores that it's hardly recognizable as a normal curve….

Yes I understand that. Which was my point (perhaps poorly made). As I said, and have said before, I believe stories on LITEROTICA are rated too highly! And I know they don’t follow a normal curve we might have expected for the scores of stories submitted by amateur authors.

And I believe the contest stories are even further inflated upwards (which your quoted figures seem to show). Here’s what the scores supposedly mean:

1) I Hated it!
2) I didn’t like it much
3) Liked it – keep on writing
4) Really liked it – good read
5) Loved it – one of the best

Now if I was seriously trying to judge this contest (or if you were) how many stories could I rate 5 and call “one of the best” out of the some 130 entries? Five? Ten? Fifteen? Surely not more.

And how many stories could I (or any reasonable judging reader) be expected to assign 1’s or 2’s to? Given the huge number of entries, their uneven quality, and my personal preferences, I can’t imagine not finding at least 30 or 40 that I honestly felt deserved 1 or 2.

Yet on just about every oggman thread I’ve ever seen we get people like miss kitten crying about their scores (no miss you’re not alone – hundreds have whined before you). Whose little emerald hearts are broken when their story rating falls from 4.53 to 4.50.

Authors who have no understanding that this huge score plummet  was caused by someone clicking a star that meant he or she “liked it – keep writing”.

Authors who believe that 4.50 should be the absolute bottom of the range of scores they should ever receive for their brilliant work. Who don’t understand that to get 4.50 on a 50 vote story you have to get twenty-five 4’s (really liked it) and twenty-five 5’s (loved it) and nothing lower. Not one person who voted “hated it” or “didn’t like it” or even “liked it” from the thousands who read it.

QUOTE Owlwhisper my contest entry got a troll vote after the contest closed. I had thought it was a 1 vote, but in reality it was a three, which shouldn't be construed as a malicious vote.

The quote above shows that even you owlwhisper can fall into this whining mode – you refer to a vote you got and thought was a 1 as a troll vote and as a malicious vote.

If it had been a 1 did it have to have been malicious? Couldn’t it more likely have been from someone who honestly “hated it”.

There are lots of stories I click open on this site that I honestly believe are 1’s or 2’s. Should we expect our readers never to express their opinions if they’re bad?

If so we could do away completely with the 1, 2 and 3 stars and only allow 4’s and 5’s. Mind you if your figures are correct (both above and in your 2 award winning analysis of LIT numbers) we’re pretty much already there in quite a few catagories.

~Enlightened by Darkness~: "One is lost in darkness and imprisoned by adversity and the mind. The other is a creature of darkness, bound by a curse. Both reaching for Light. Can they rise above and find liberation together?

This story was written for my dear friend, LadyNight. She inspired the story and is an inspiration in her own right. I am blessed by her friendship. I hope I did her dream (and the guy) justice. :)

I hope that others out there who have a disability or adversity, hold onto the hope and the knowledge that they deserve to be loved, as much as the next person. You have no limitations, but the ones you allow society to place upon you, and in turn place upon yourselves. YOU have the power!

Scouries on the 11th ANNUAL LITEROTICA AWARDS – Most Influential Author

Here’s the first things that jumped out at me when I saw this year’s nominees:

1) This year we have 10 nominees while in previous years we had 4 or 5. I wondered why.

2) The total number of votes cast has tumbled dramatically – a 60% falloff in spite of having double the nominees.

3) There were NO top twenty FAVORITE AUTHORS nominated.

and finally

4) I had never even heard of half the nominees!

WTF I asked myself. Soular must have paid somebody off to get this weak and large a field.

In the 10th ANNUAL AWARDS we had some of the giants competing – BFW, the kitten sisters and Many Feathers stand out. This year we don’t have any of the top 20 MOST FAVORITE authors. Anyway I investigated all the nominees and here’s what I found (those with stars next to their names were previously unknown to me):

Charles Petersunn* This guys written a great number of stories in a lot of different categories. And most of them have H’s. I’m surprised I haven’t run into him before. He looks like a pretty good author.

Firebrain* She’s a hot looking babe about 30 who comes from Sunny England? She only joined the site in May 2009 so she certainly wasn’t the most influential for the first 5 months of the year! As far as I can see she only submitted one story in 2009, a chaptered Novel called Chairman of the Whored and which wasn’t finished until 2010. It’s hard to understand how she could have possibly have been nominated in this category.

HRKW* A self proclaimed “skinny female” whose picture depicts her as a sexy blond. Heather doesn’t say where she comes from but she could be Canadian. She joined the site in March 2009 but she appears to have taken down whatever stories she once had up on LITEROTICA. She still has some poems up. Pretty hard to vote for someone who doesn’t have any stories left… Why even nominate her?

mia erotica My old pal Mia also describes herself as “skinny” and says she’s in her thirties and lives in New York (the city?). She also joined in March 2009. She has 5 stories dated 2009 still up – in 4 different categories. Her scores are quite low but I can tell you her work is better than these low scores would indicate – in my humble opinion anyway. Unfortunately this talented young maiden spends most of her time around here chasing the infamous cheat jayman. Which makes her a poor choice as a MOST INFLUENTIAL role model for the younger LITEROTICA set.

oggbashan THREADMASTER. Old. ENGLISH. If we were here to award a lifetime achievement award the oggman would probably be leading the pack. But we’re not! Most of his best work came out in the 2003-6 period. His 2009 work was minimal and hardly trendsetting. Even his threads have fallen on hard times. We need a much more modern voice in this category.

Positivethinker SURVIVALIST – hundreds of stories submitted. A good looking and intelligent 45 year old redhead. This girl is brilliant if her choices as FAVORITE AUTHOR are anything to go by. She was by far the best of this sorry lot in 2009.

Princess Erin SURVIVALIST – hundreds of stories submitted. CANADIAN. About 30 years old. She lives in a castle. She has a very weak group of FAVORITE AUTHORS. Is known for writing very short stories. By and large she’s not that bad. But MOST INFLUENTIAL? I think not.

Soular Another female and a famous manipulator of the nomination and voting process here on LITEROTICA. In 2009 she started the multi chaptered story Gabriella which is still not finished. She also wrote the last few chapters of a 2008 story. But that’s it. She writes in the Interracial category and the three stories she’s submitted to the site are remarkably alike. She could easily be named BEST CAMPAIGN MANAGER but unfortunately her influence is marginal at best.

Talyis Bagley* Another ENGLISH babe – this one about 30. She also joined in May 2009. She’s a swordswoman if her picture is any indication. She wrote 2 multi chaptered stories in 2009 – one a Sci-Fi effort, the other a Non-Human one. Neither were particularly highly rated given the categories they’re in. I have no idea what she’s doing in this category.

Transverse* Another babe who joined the site in 2009 – this one apparently from California. She seems to concentrate on Gay Male stories. Which is weird. Like Talyis above she certainly doesn’t belong even in this so-so company.

So who to vote for? One of the six babes who joined in 2009? Could they be by any chance clones (read ALTS) of Soular? Could her pals have nominated them to keep the greats out? I wonder.

Frankly this group is just an advertisement for everything that is wrong with the annual awards.

IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE!

Ah yes, Positivethinker. That would be one of Freddie's many alts.

As for these peoples choices as FAVORITE AUTHOR, if they don't include scouries and his alts and Freddie and his alts, the choices are bad. Funny how that works.

BTW, is there a thread anywhere that explains how this vote clearing system works? Watching my contest story's score bounce up and down like a jogger's breasts has made me curious (and a little aroused ) about the whole process… Well, I can appreciate the logic there. But on the other hand the secrecy is a bit troubling. I mean, how do we know that an admin's sister-in-law (for example) isn't getting their votes adjusted so they win the competitions?

QUOTE ace No. The site administrators very purposely don't say how it works--to make it harder to circumvent it.

QUOTE hungry Another newby question: are we talking about eliminating votes from people who voted multiple times from the same IP address?

image.php
Yes, among other things.

First off our friendly witch is speculating – she has no idea if what she’s saying is true or not.

Meanwhile ace is parroting the QUEEN’S official position but he purposely doesn’t (nor does she) explain or expose the other results of the “don’t ask/we’ll never tell” policy.

Some of which are:

1) Writers spend more time checking their scores than they do writing
2) Huge last day vote swings that steal victory from one while rewarding palace toadies
3) No listing of the results
4) No verification of the vote results
5) No legitimacy
6) Great frustration among contestants (which has led to a boycott by the best authors on the site..

…and on and on…

image.php
Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know that we're working on tallying the votes now. Because of the awesomely high volume of stories in this year's contest, it's taking a bit longer than usual…

A LAUREL :cattail: sighting! Delighted to see you dear queen.

Seeing you’re having such a problem keeping up with the “awesomely high volume of stories” may I be presumptuous enough to make a small suggestion?

LIMIT ENTRIES – quite simply ONE STORY PER AUTHOR (including her/her ALTS)

How tough would that be?

And one other thing seeing you’re here – Once you’ve finished “tallying” all the scores why don’t you publicly post the results for every author. List the author, total votes cast, total votes rejected, pre sweep rating, final rating.

It’s bad enough that you’re one of the few organizations in the world that holds votes but doesn’t explain what constitutes a legitimate vote (and what doesn’t), nor allow independent vote count verification , but then you exacerbate the problem by not even publishing the final, tampered results. Talk about ‘ace et al in wonderland’…

CHANGE IS EASY – EMBRACE IT DEAR LADY!

Well, I didn't mention these concepts, because I've mentioned some of them before--much before you did, incidentally--and I don't want to be as boring as you by flailing away on issues that it's obvious the site administrators aren't going to do a damn thing about. :D

(And, I might add, it's specifically your silly, pathetic game playing that has led to much of their sweep policies.)

Poor scouries, he gets so frustrated by the vote sweeps. He wants to know what constitutes a real vote and what constitutes a vote that will be swept. He wants to know how to get around the sweeps so he can go back to cheating the way he did before the sweeps were initiated.

Good luck with that.

Football Erotic Coupling shenanigans? Hard to argue about the author of this one. But they chose his wrong story – the one that got all the votes was in a category that the QUEEN (through her rules) doesn’t allow to win.

Wait, I just realized Samhain Cider has a new ending from the one I read in the beginning. *reads the new ending, curious* I'll keep that in mind for next time. I didn't realize you could edit a story in the middle of the contest. I had a few things I wanted to clean up. Oh well, live and learn

Please god, tell me this isn’t true!

Surely, even in the bizarre contest world of LITEROTICA, the QUEEN didn’t let a contestant change his story halfway through the contest?

Which votes were counted? The pre change votes? Or only the post change votes? Surely she just didn’t add up the scores on two different stories.

Did she advise him to change the ending?

This is arrguably worse than what jayman, db, and the moonman did.

I'm tempted to take the babe from the upper penisula and the dumb texan off IGNORE just to read their explanation for this. But then again I'll probably resist the temptation..

Your ignorance is showing again. An edited story does not lose any votes, pre edit or post edit. Editing does nothing to the votes, period. It changes what is edited only.

Just more smoke and mirrors to spread more propaganda about the Lit contests from the master of bullshit himself.

The only person interested in the Air Head Awards is scouries. Most of the AH don't even know about them because they have and have had scouries on ignore for years.

Since gabby and scouries are the same person, her announcing the awards is scouries talking to himself, yet again.

I wonder what award he will win. he always wins at least one.

How many real contests has our self proclaimed #1 writer on Lit won?

NONE!

I wonder why that is? Because the real readers know a hack when they read one, id what I figure. Although he will tell you that the AH always cheats him out of his just rewards. Count the number of people that hang out in the AH. Subtract the 90% that have him on ignore and could care less about contests. Now count the high number of votes he always brags about. You do the math. The real reraders keep speaking.

I see that LITEROTICA'S dumbest texan has repiled, twice in fact, but so far I've resisted the temptation to peek.

ace and I aren't great friends which makes it difficuult for me when he's the only AHer who is capable of responding intelligently when a real problem is exposed.

Anyone who can't grasp the wrongness of allowing an author to change his story in the middle of a contest, after voting has started on it, and after the author has gotten feedback on it, is simply not worth wasting any time with.

Mind you the Canes are not going to go easy on UVA! We may score 70 points...

OK, lets move on to another little post that popped up today. It was posted on the 11th ANNUAL AWARDS discussion thread by someone named candlelight069. Here it is:

Surprised! But happily so!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although I've been a Literotica author since 8/2007, I never thought I'd ever win anything for any of my stories. It's never been about winning, anyway. It's always been about my love of writing.

Much to my surprise, however, last month as I was cruising my Submissions page, I saw this little blue "W" beside chapter 6 to my NonHuman, Cursed and Coveted story. I was astounded, not really knowing what this meant.

It took some searching, but I finally discovered that this chapter had won 2nd Prize! Wow. I am truly amazed. It even inspired me to write the final chapter to this story. I'm sure my readers would be happy to know this.

I also discovered that the fourth chapter to my Incest story, Loving Siblings: Liam & Liliana, is currently nominated for the 11th Annual Literotica Reader's Choice Award for Best Incest Story. I couldn't be happier! I just wished I'd known about this sooner. I could have mentioned it to my readers. :-D

Thank you for even considering me. Warmest,
~ Candlelight062

This girl won a prize and didn't know it! I wonder if she ever got the cash. The story unfortunately was a, yes you guessed it, a Chaptered Non-Human story.

She's also nominated in the 11th ANNUAL AWARDS and only found out today five weeks after the voting started!

This young authoresses post simply highlights the obvious problems...
