I think comparing the M/s we discuss on this board to what goes on among royalty and their servants is like comparing playing counterstrike to mounting an assault on Normandy.
even if it the consent was forged on nothing more than "this is what i must bear in order to maintain my position and keep my family fed." that is still consent. .
I personally take issue with this, but I am not attacking you OSG. to me, this falls under the category of duress. Much as me sucking a guys cock because he's threatening to kill me...not consent.
The cultural reality is very different from the US and the whole "at will" employment. I doubt seriously that this man would have been able to just "quit" his. How many stories do we read about foreign women employed in Bahrain who dont' get paid, who have thier passports held, who are beaten and raped? Those with power in that country see people as disposable.
Considering that you were willing to kill yourself at one point, I suppose that makes sense to you.the only place where we disagree here is on the issue of compliance under duress not being consent. i'm well aware of the sorely limited options a person in such a position may have, of the potential risk to personal welfare or even family if the rules are not followed. in the end, it is still consent. mind you, that doesn't make anything right or wrong. it just is.
I still think comparing the M/s we discuss on this board to what goes on among royalty and their servants is like comparing playing counterstrike to mounting an assault on Normandy.
When your surrounding social structure is one that offers lifelines out of your "slavery" then it's completely different from being surrounded by social forces that reinforce it and say "good job."

At home, he would have gotten away with the murder.True. Which is why we should work for social change.
The murder happened in London, though. And it looks like the prince could do jail time. I don't think it ever occurred to him that he wouldn't get away with murder.
My husband would not have that confidence.
At home, he would have gotten away with the murder.
What he might be executed for, is being gay.
