The Authors' Hangout 2010 Halloween Contest Support Thread

Welcome to the one and only Literotica Halloween Contest.

Except no substitutes.

It still hasn't posted, and it has been almost four days. On my index page, it has a posting date of 10/14/10, which means it has not been forgotten. :(

Maybe at midnight?? At least it's not forgotten! :)

Soo.. my latest story has 8 votes. :( come on man, lol.
Score is doing well though, so that makes me happy. :)

The posting dates usually run from midnight to midnight, Eastern Time. That would be 9PM to 9PM the following night, PDT. It's almost 8 o'clock now, so 10/14, for this purpose, has a little over an hour left.

ETA: It is now almost four and a half days, which is longer than non-contest story usually takes. Being by me, a contest entry and in the LW category, there are three kinds of trolls who will want to attack it as soon as possible.

ETA: Okay, I did send an email to Laurel about it. It is Oct. 15 in NY, and the story in question has still not been posted.

Gees, I left a comment on one of Luna's stories and it's not showing up. Makes me wonder how or if the voting is getting counted right, too.:confused:

First story

Just submitted my first story to this contest - also, incidentally, my first ever submission to Literotica.

I'm slightly concerned because, while there are definite erotic undertones to the supernatural theme, sex really isn't the focus. Still, hopefully it'll be deemed acceptable.

Good luck to everyone in the contest!

Send her a PM. Most e-mails end up in the spam filter from what I hear.

Welcome to the fun and games.

Erotic undertones or overtones as sometimes the best kind. You just never know around here.

Ya might want to put a link to your story in your sig line for all the lazy people, which includes me.

Have fun

I lied.
One more. lol.

Usuall higher votes equal lower score for me. Here's my lastest totals.

Babs,

See! That's what I'm talking about. I've had soo many comments disappear too. I've sent Manu PM, but have heard nothing back. I've tried to re-comment, but hard to keep up.

Thanks for the comment that didn't reach me, though. :)

Methinks there are not just trolls to be watching out for, but gremlins and spirits in the wires as well! The spirits - I can handle. The gremlins - sometimes a soft sensuous lullabye works- though apparently not today.

I'll try another one. Not sure if I can remember what I wrote yesterday, but I'll give it another shot.

* Looks like it worked this time. Maybe it was me with the problem and not the system. I drink, ya know. LOL

I got my story up and posted now.

http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=499980

I am glad it was brought up about the comments. My comments have fallen way off on the last two stories, though no real difference on voting or views. I figured people were just voting, and not taking the time to comment. I went back and double checked all of my old stories, and the comments are still there, so i don't think i lost any. But now i wonder am i losing any new ones.
I'm going to watch this thread and see what the other authors say.

Meathead,

I contacted Laurel and Manu. Laurel said they haven't gotten other complaints. But I let her know there are others on this thread having strange things happen too. They are going to look into it. Goodluck!

what AHland voting bloc? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha….

No need to worry about the A.I.R. section of the contest dear.

We’re committed to counting every single legitimate vote on every story that passes muster.

it's those halloween ghostes, they're tricking everybody.
who you gonna call? (cheesy for those who know the line )

Chicky,

Were it the ghosties, I'd know better how to handle them ;) Want to talk about cheesy? Showing up at a ghost "hunting" event, wearing a Ghost Busters shirt *giggles* Hmm, I think I looked cute, at least! *haha*

I'm still working on it. Lots of thought work today but not so much actual writing. Got the Dragon Naturally Speaking up and running so I can dictate but may have to beg the husband for time to write and edit this weekend. I haven't given up hope!

MagicaPractica,

How does that software work when it comes to punctuation and such? Is it pretty accurate? Glad you haven't given up hope on your story :)

Nice vote counts DGHear, and a nice number of comments too. For some reason, even though I get a good number of reads and votes, and even scores, my number of comments always seem to lag way behind. I still get a steady number of emails, probably average a little better than 1 a day, and new stories often spawn a dozen or so.

Now if I could just figure out why the comments are always so low...

I've got the latest Dragon Naturally Speaking on my machine. My daughter uses it to write all of her papers for school, and it seems to work really well.

Once you've got the hang of it, it works surprisingly well, but for me, I just can't give up the typing. I seem to type faster then the using the Dragon. It's the edits and changes that slow me down so much. I probably just need buckle down and use it more, but I don't seem to have the patience.

I've been using it on and off since version 3. My real goal is to use dictation into a recorder on my long commute, and then use Dragon to transcribe it. Not much luck with that so far.

I remember back when I first started writing, before personal computers, ala JK Rowlings, I wrote everything using my favorite pen. Then, I fell in love with the feel of the keys on my Smith Corona typewriter. I always hated the light touch of the IBM Selectrics. Now, I can't imagine not using a keyboard to write my stories. I suppose if I were blind that Dragon software would be a lifesaver.

Yet, when using Dragon, don't you feel a disconnection? When my fingers are poised on the keyboard and then typing away at a speed faster than the words appear on the screen, I feel plugged in to the computer and to my characters' heads. Maybe it's just me, but I wonder if any other writer has things they must do and must have in place to create.

With my dog by my side, my eternal cup of coffee, and my view out my office window, I'm good to go.

Man, I remember those typewriters. I prefer computer keyboards. :)

I also remember the white out and the piles of balled up paper in the corner. Grrrrrr. Yeah, keyboards aren't made for my hands anymore than a typewriter was but at least the editing is cheaper and far easier.
