So the question is: If you were the Author of any novel/book, which one would it be, and why? I suppose mine would have to be Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. Its a classic and a good read. I'm sure there are better books, but i just can't think of any...

Mine would definately be "1984" by George Orwell. I love that book and I think it is a unique perspective on Big Government.

THE UNFORGIVEN by Alan LeMay

Its maybe the best Western of all time, and the perfect storm of all the heartbreaks human suffer.

William and Matilda Zachary adopt a child abandoned in West Texas, and the trouble starts. Neighbors want to trade her to the Kiowas for their captured white children. The Kiowas believe she was stolen from them by Texas Rangers during a raid. The chief is a white-Mexican mix, not Indian at all; the girl looks about the same; and he pursues the Zacharys to reclaim her. The Zacharys wont part with her, and plenty of people die. In the end just about everyone is dead, the ranch is burned to the ground, the Zacharys are ex-communicated by the community, and two people are left standing, penniless, homeless, without friends....but in love.

Darwin's Origin of Species.

Darwin had to travel widely and study detail to be able to formulate his ideas. His book is still controversial today.

Reservation Blues, by Sherman Alexie.

His novel is one of the few I've read that actually made me laugh out loud, all by myself. And then he has you crying within the next couple of pages. He weaves magic and the bleak reality of life on a reservation beautifully.

If you haven't read it, treat yourself.

Love Sick by Sue William Silverman

Every time I read this book I'm amazed and a little frightened at how close I feel to this book. There are definitely qualities I see in myself, and the emotions that she projects are remarkably strong and not at all hard to relate to.

The Odessy (Homer)
A brilliant story and so beautifully told (a modern translation, rather than the poem)

So the question is: If you were the Author of any novel/book, which one would it be, and why?

I wish I'd written the Merlin Trilogy (The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, and The Last Enchantment) by Mary Stewart. I reread them every few years.

She's still alive, although in her nineties now.

I find it amusing that her stuff couldn't be published on Literotica, since it tells of a decidedly underage Arthur fathering a child by his (adult) sister Morgause.
