I at no time used the phrase "get the hell out." I would, rather say, lose the mouth and attitude and go give a hand. And if they won't take the hand, at least lose the attitude and the mouth. It can't be helping anything there.

Thanks. Just an example how easy it is to misread and not completely read everything passing by. And quite a timely point, I would say.

I'm sorry if you folks think I'm taking the Dr. Phil position in the Dr. Phil way (which I probably am). But I have children and grandchildren myself. And what you may see as a breezy Internet "what we do" here, I can't help but see as a perpetuated, enabled mistake.

Just wanting to point out that just because a person has "potty mouth" on Lit forums doesn't necessarily mean that they spout obscenities aloud in front of children. And being on a "porn site" instead of trying to parent someone else's children doesn't mean that said children are being exposed to pornography simply by being in the same room with the computer. The computer may be positioned in a manner that no one but the computer user can see the screen.

I think TR is a good mom to HER daughter (the one that was being terrorized by the neglected children, as mentioned in her first post) in that she is getting the two of them out of a horrible situation as soon as humanly possible. Saying that she should try to manage those children is like expecting her to also clean up the filthy house or motivate their mother to do more/better. It's neither fair nor realistic. I think her plan to leave as soon as possible is best and perhaps she should take the suggestions of a few on here and call Child Protective Services after she has moved out.
