Gather your armies! (political)

Frightening?

Well in the sense that that kind of laughable hyperbole and silly theatrics might actually resonate with anyone of voting age. Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, you'd think his constituency was a bunch of twelve year old boys.

There's just something about that particular sliver of America that I'll never ever understand.

Because he knows the descendants of former slaves won't give him the time of day. Neither will the winners in that particular war. All he has left to pander to is the trailer trash.

Sam Adams made beer in a trailer?

Holy fucking shit! This is very, very frightening.

I can't stop laughing......AmiCoot and TE1999 are pissed because they can't wear those wigs and pretend that they're in this guys dream.....'gather your armies'.......right......teabagger twits

I'd vote for him...I don't like some of the new taxes being proposed. Seemed to me the man was encouraging people to go out a vote and be politically active. Oh wait that is a bad thing when conservatives do that right?

This from the person who got suckered by a fifteen-year-old urban myth? I'm not surprised you'd vote for this guy.

In short, yeah, it is a bad thing when conservatives are politically active, because the only political activity they seem to know how to do is spread lies, myths and falsehoods--and/or vote into office those who spread lies, myths and falsehoods.

But of course. I thought it was quite effective myself. It's not just 'trailer trash' that are disgusted with the way this country's sliding into Socialisim...the entire middle class is fed up...and they pay most of the taxes. Obeyme's New and Improved America will get the heave-ho in the fall, just as he will when his term's up.

The emperor has no clothes and feet of clay. He'll join Ozymandias presently. :D

Rob runs from his own shadow in the morning then hides under the bed when it gets dark...what do you expect.

I don't see a problem with that commercial at least he wasn't calling his opponents names.

That commercial was just fucking goofy and the candidate is a retard.

He might win.

Might as the electorate has voted in all the idiots already. Every time someone is elected to that cesspool in DC the IQ of America, seen by the rest of the world, drops precipitously.

I like what Mark Twain said: "For every problem there's a solution that's neat, obvious, and wrong."

Z-

Sorry— that's H. L. Mencken ( Mencken was, of course, a philosophical heir of both Twain and Schopenhauer). He called his discovery of Twain at age ten, "The most stupendous event of my life."

...there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong.

"The Divine Afflatus" in New York Evening Mail (16 November 1917); later published in Prejudices: Second Series (1920) and A Mencken Chrestomathy (1949)

When Mencken finished polishing the aphorism ( a practice he followed with his prose and with his bon mots ), I believe its final form was:
"For every complex human problem, there is a simple solution— one that is neat, plausible, and wrong."

This was the Rep. primary election in Alabama's Second District, which includes Montgomery. Enough people voted for Barber to force a runoff against the establishment candidate.

See, this is what I was talking about. I can't fathom how anyone with a pulse can think that ad is not utterly embarrassing.

And trust me, I'm not talking about the guy's policy opinions. There's some validity to what he's saying if you peel away the hysteria. I'm talking about the tone, the style, the attitude, the production.

It's like a pro wrestling skit between fights.

With what barely passes for a historical theme.

Written by that kid down the street who likes to throw rocks at small mammals and everyone thinks is juuuust a little bit wierd.

Directed by Uwe Boll.

I can't believe that people are so frightened of their fellow citizens that only the death of said fellow citizens can solve it. Indeed, it seems to me they look forward to those deaths with glee.

Sad to see a great country commit suicide.

What on earth are you talking about? Barber is not literally calling for armed revolution; he is calling for the overthrow of the establishment at the ballot box.

Are you saying that never in history has the citizenry of a country been justified in overthrowing their tyrannical government? Not in France? Not in Russia?

International politics is a lot like pro rassling.

Maybe in your mind.

I didn't say they were identical; I said they were a lot alike.

I don't watch rassling much now, but I used to watch it quite a lot during the Cold War. Now, I spend the time more productively, writing smut. Anyhow, there were two groups of rasslers, the Bad Guys and the Good Guys. The international equivalents would be the Sino-Soviets and their clients and the Anglo-Americans and their allies. The matchups in the ring were almost always between a representative of one group and a representative of the other. Once in a while, somebody would change from one group of rasslers to the other, and he or she was always warmly welcomed.

Anyhow, when one person or tag team was in the ring against another, the bad guy flagrantly broke the rules and the announcer complained ineffectively. Usually, one of the bad guys, Jesse Ventura in particular, was also at the announcer's table and he would ignore the rule-breaking by the bad guys and pretend it wasn't happening, and accuse the good guys of breaking the rules.

This was the equivalent of the Sino-Soviets and their clients flagrantly breaking international laws, such as Cuba providing Soviet arms and fighting for the terrorists trying to overthrow governments in South and Central America, or China threatening Taiwan or North Korea threateining South Korea or similar evil deeds. The announcer, and most Americans objected to what the two groups of bad guys, the bad rasslers and the international trouble-makers, were doing, but there were Jesse Ventura and his ilk cheering on the bad guys, just as there were Jane Fonda and others like her cheering the misdeeds of the international bad guys.

This was before I got involved in Lit., but I also suspect there were some of the people usually referred to as "The Usual Suspects" who were cheering for the Sino-Soviets during the Cold War, and claiming everything they did was justified.

As opposed to liberals who do everything they say they're going to do and actually ruin the country a little more each time. Oh and for the hundredth time I asked if anyone knew anything, I hadn't heard the story, so I asked to verify the facts. Liberals don't have that problem though, whatever conspiracy theory there is you're off and running with it.

I always thought democracy was a good thing....guess it is hard for liberals to find out that not everyone agrees with them. Must be rather shocking. Either way it turns out I hope people do their research and turn out and vote.

Generally speaking, Libs think their position is so obviously the right one, they can't imagine anybody disagreeing with them, and think anybody who does is either crazy or stupid or both. This is a very common condition with those on this forum.

Conservatives, on the other hand, tend to listen to what the opposition says and decide based on what they already know and whatever they learn. :)
