What kind of rope is best for bondage? I know that it comes down to personal preference and trying a few to feel what is best for my pet, but she is worried about nylon rope from a post on another website(reddit.com).

I am going up to see her in a few weeks and thinking about just buying a hundred feet of nylon to mess around with while I am up there. Long term I am thinking about hemp or jute if I could find it. Any stories/advice from people to help out a first-time experience would be greatly appreciated.

I put up a pretty serious post in my ropework thread. It may be linked to in my sig, though a lot of the pic links are broken due to a dead host.

Nylon is cheap, and soft, but doesn't have a lot of tooth. So it doesn't really hold knots all that well. Nylon is very dyeable. Go for solid braid usually. Twist can be nice, but it is tough to maintain.

Nylon/poly blend is even cheaper, and has similar characteristics. Most of what you see in Home Depot and the like listed as nylon is actually nylon/poly blend. If you are buying in a place like Home Depot, get the stuff off the spool. the bagged rope is cheaper, sure, but it is nowhere near as good a quality. It's also not always what it says on the label, as I've seen solid braid on the bag turn out to be braid of core. Crap stuff.

MFP is somewhat more expensive, but good stuff. It ties similar to nylon and has even less tooth. It cannot be dyed, but can be bought in a variety of brilliant colours from places like Rainbow Ropes (great people).

Jute is classic for Japanese style ropework. It works fast, has great tooth, and an interesting texture. It dyes well, and tends to hold the dye. My big problem with jute is that it kinks, takes twists, and generally needs more maintenance thatn similar fibers.

Hemp is basically the standard by which others are measured. Dyes well, has great tooth, strong, easy to maintain, etc. It's all around good stuff. I like Madame Butterfly's rope, Twisted Monk, and Kinkyropes.com.

Flax is similar to hemp, but much softer. It's really brilliant stuff, but it has a sort of dried grass smell that some people find objectionable. I got mine from Jack at kinkyropes.com, and really dig it.

Sisal is very cheap, available at hardware stores, and is tough. It's also itchy as shit and splinters. It's not unsafe, per se, but it will probably drive your bottom to distraction. You can't really treat it to soften it, but you can slightly lessen the itch factor.

Manila is awful stuff, and often treated with petroleum based products. Given that it splinters like crazy, it is not really safe against skin.

If you have specific questions on other rope types, holler.

Underlined section. Accidentally called Jute as "Hemp", or misplaced the line?

I have become very interested in rope bondage lately. Did some searching about the forums and found some good threads... but it doesn't seem to be all that popular? (Comparatively speaking..) Understandably due to the learning curve, I guess.

Is there some catch-all thread for this, or did I miss it when I skimmed the search results?

Quite popular, it just hasn't been talked about much lately.

If you click the link in my profile, you'll find a pretty long thread on the topic. Lots of info in it, though I've not updated it lately. I haven't fixed the dead pics because my host died, I haven't found a new one, and the computerr] that most of the pics is on died, so the HDD needs to be put into a drive enclosure. Whee. Still, the text is there, as are a load of links (some probably broken by now) to various sites, resources, etc.

is there anywhere you can still get the tutorials by.... grrrr thaddeus? tademus? had a load of tutorials on the web a few years ago really really good stuff but they seem to have disappeared now.

I found good videos by the two knotty boys on youtube also their book is great
