My thoughts on sending my children to the big Boatnik carnival with the mother and grandfather of their friends...

"I'm going to want those back in the same condition in which I'm giving them to you."

Why is it that when they aren't directly under my wings, they seem so very small and vulnerable? It matters not that the 11 year old daughter is two inches taller than me or the 6 year old son is not a great deal shorter than I am...I am supermom and I will kill grown grizzlies with my bare hands if they threaten my babies.

But Mommmmm......

Now where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, I said it to mine on more than one occasion. :D

My mom heard it from a Bill Cosby routine. I'm just passing on the wisdom!

The day I said "BECAUSE I SAID SO" for the first time, I wanted to cry!

I feel like I'm the only person in my family who isn't allowed to speak up when I'm being treated unfairly. :(

The babies are home realitively unscathed. The boy fell asleep in his dinner and was tucked away with visions of roller coasters and giant slides running through his sleepy brain. The girl came home with tales of having lost her $21 ticket (friend's mom gave her hers) and the $10 I sent with her for drinks and snacks. Irresponsiblity knows no bounds with this one! But she had such a good time, I can't be mad at her. She's told me harrowing tales of scary rides that none of her friends would get on...she of course braved them four, five or more times! That's my girl!

***Note: she gets that from her father...I am terrified of heights and small spaces!

I know the feeling. I have been in the same boat many times. And when I point out that I am the only one that isn't allowed to defend himself the berating gets even worse from everyone around me until I smash something and leave.

It sucks.

I had to turn down sparring the other day because I was overheating... :(

___

I want to pay off my car loan so bad, I wish I could make a payment right now...

There is an ad just on, for "cuponk". $15 for pingpong balls and a "zombie cup" and a deck of cards for trick shots.

Someone is going to make a fortune!

I didn't think I'd like it, but I surprised myself....I'm a lot more violently inclined than I thought. :D

Ya right....

I know you would knock me out, cuz I couldn't keep my eyes on your eyes or your hands. Just sayin'.

The weapons of boobage would keep you distracted so that I could use my awesome ninja powers on you. :D

Maps as history

I've spent several hours sorting my collection of large scale maps of my town and two neighbouring towns.

I have several editions from the mid -19th Century until the 1960s of the Ordnance Survey One Inch to a Mile maps. They are interesting but not as fascinating as the larger scale maps.

The six inches to a mile 1:10000 show housing developments over time and can even identify larger houses.

The twenty-five inches to a mile 1:2500 show all houses, road widths and some outbuildings, but -

The fifty inches to a mile 1:1250 show everything - sheds, greenhouses, fences, ditches etc.

I have copies from the 1930s, the 1950s, the 1960s and the 1970s.

I'm a mapoholic.
