Did that title get your attention? I thought it might. Yep, it's true, I guess. Well, at least that is what it looks like on paper.
OK, let me start from the beginning. I was fired today. I've been in talks for several days with HR people who were asking me questions about if I ever say the N word at work, or talk down to African Americans or use urban slang terms to show I'm superior and all sorts of other nice questions.
All I could say was "no". How can I prove a negative? I didn't say those things, or act that way...PERIOD! But, today, after several days of these talks, they tell me that in the course of their investigation, they talked to "several" of those I supervised. They said each one said I used the word nxxxxr (word x'd out so not to offend) on several occasions, that I said the captain (my boss who is African American) spoke in "slave" lingo, and that I told more than one person that I thought blacks were an inferior race.
It just goes to show you that when someone says you did something or said something, whether you did it or not, it's not possible to prove a negative. How can I say I didn't say those things, if several of the people who worked under me said I did?
And the HR guy even said he can't prove they were telling the truth and that wasn't his job. He just talked to the people under me, after the initial allegations that I said something that offended one of them enough that he went to the EEOC.
I guess it doesn't matter if they happened to get together over pizza and beer and talk out what their answers would be when the HR people talked to them, so the answers would be the same. Of course, I had no idea any of them would go that far to get rid of me. Multiple people telling lies about racism just to get me fired? I had no idea. I was numb when they told me.
Of course they won't tell me who said anything, nor will they say how many they talked to. I'm just fired for making racist comments in a work environment that offended my coworkers.
Actually, I'm the least racist person I know. I don't see color unless they show their color to me, first. Yes, there are some who will use that against you, like a weapon and there are some who will use it to get a job, keep a job and I've now found out some will use it to get rid of their boss.
I know the majority of African Americans are good people. Just like caucasion people, there are some who are less than good. In both races there are those who will use what they can to get what they can. It comes easy to them to be that way. It's sad, but so true.
The HR guy said not everyone they spoke to was "of color", like that meant anything to me. What bothers me is knowing that any of them would go that far to get rid of me. Why? What did I do to them that was so bad, and why couldn't I see it in the years we worked together?
There is one guy who has been voicing his dislike for me for about a month. I mentioned it to my boss and he said to document his statements in writing. I did that and the HR people were given a copy. But, nothing was ever done about it. Now, since I've been fired, I have none of that. It's all now the property of the company.
Anyway, I don't know why I'm even speaking about this on a BDSM site. It has nothing to do with BDSM. It's just another bit of bad luck in a life that's been full of bad luck.
I'm not looking for sympathy and I'm not looking for a shoulder to cry on. I'm mad. I'm very mad. I'm mad that I'm being labeled a racist and I'm not one.
I was told I shouldn't have told the truth to the HR people. Why not? I had nothing to hide. I'm not a racist. I didn't say anything I shouldn't have. But because you can't fight it when several gang up on you and say you are one, it doesn't matter what you say. Words can't describe how I feel. Shocked doesn't fit. Flabbergasted comes close. Numb is even better. I guess the only word that fits, as far as my former employer is concerned is racist.
I'm sorry if this post offended you. It sure offended me.
