I know what your thinking; "what a funny guy Iheartbrunettes is." (lol). We all know that words are very powerful, in both written and verbal forms. Voice describes the writer in written works, how you the writer comes across, determines how your readers detect your tone.

For example if a woman came up to me and said; "I want you to drive your hardness deep inside the silk walls of my pussy," my response would be; "Well your friendly aint ya."

On the other hand, if she said: " I want your long hard key to open my love box," my response would be: "hmmm."

I am not an expert on fiction writing, and being a straight guy I am probably so far from being the classic "romantic," that most women would probably laugh themselves to death if I was even to attempt it. I mean sure, I have done the little things like candles, notes on the bed, and have even contacted a lady or two in the middle of the day, when she is unsuspecting, but yet found the gesture to be appealing.

I am newbie, but I am also a writer. It's nice to be here, and Iam hoping to make some new friends with other writers. Well I guess thats all for now.

oddly enough, i wrote a series of pieces for my blog where i was specifically avoiding words that traditionally get flagged in corporate IP traffic. it was an interesting challenge that i think i handled well. :>

That ended up in a different place than it started...

Anyways, this is editor's land, where you'll want to bring your story once it's written. You want the author's area or perhaps writers' resources or story ideas.

Isn't asking about other words from editors helpful to a writer?

Iheartbrunettes, welcome.

The answer to your problem is to think about what you are writing. Use vocabulary to emphasize the mood and intensity. Pussy, cunt, prick, shaft, penis, all have their place - but only in context. Always put yourself in the head of your character and try to imagine the way they are thinking.

Read a lot of stories here, IHB, and alternative words and phrases will begin to pop out at you. It's mainly in developing a vocabulary that supports the level of sophisitation of your story (which isn't to mean that crude strokers don't have a place here--just that the level of vocabulary is different).

Do you find yourself leaning toward certain words more than others? Not as in romantic vs. porn, but descriptive wording that feels right to you?

From editors? Perhaps; I would never have thought of it. All my writers tend to have great repoir with dictionaries wheres I still have the damndest time spelling properly. Naturally I would think other authors would be the ones to come to.

Besides, the tone I take from the post leads me to believe we were meant to get advice, not give it.

1. Dictionaries have their place, but they aren't always helpful in erotica either.

2. Many of us who edit here are authors.

3. And if the OP was giving advice, so what? Editors can learn just as well as authors can.

Yes, I can't avoid it, I'm afraid. After some 400 stories, I'm sure I write with favorite words and key phrases. Although I do approach each story with the overriding intent to do something new.

There are no silly words.

In erotic writing, context is everything. It is the characters who speak and there will be times when a character will say "pussy", and other silly words.

Some characters would not say "shit" if they put their hand in a bag of it.

Sorry for winding up in the wrong place, I am new and was just checking out the different forums. My post was more like an opinion, or personal view. I did submit a story but did not here anything back yet, may have sent it somewhere else?. I Think words like pussy or cock give a story punch, almost like a wow factor, but has you all suggested, as long as its within context. Anyways take care, and thank you all for the replies

On your submission page it will tell you if the story is still pending or not. Look by the story title.

I'm not sure what you mean by sending it somewhere else though.

Perhaps you could use your highlighter to point out where s/he "asked" anything at all.

Non-Explicit Alternatives To Sexual Parts

I've used some in my stories.

Instead of pussy, cunt - sex, center, her/my best part, squeezebox (borrowed from a song, as in momma's got a ...)

Instead of tits - boobs, swells, speed bumps, of course the more clinical breasts

Just a drunken, random thought, probably no help, but what the hell. It's Friday!

Breasts

Furthermore - when did breasts become clinical?

I have just used those lovely people at Microsoft to check my punctuation. "Cunt" was not a word they seem to know at all. Vagina, however, was perfectly acceptable. It's a wonder any of us are here at all...

Pussy

Here in Scandinavia, a pussy isn't a pussy - it's a mouse. And repetitive strain injury is - wait for it - mouse sickness. Confused, anybody?

I think in writing good erotica, one must call a spade a spade (or a cock a cock). Of course, it will depend somewhat on the voice in the story; some are far more brash than others.

Steer clear of his throbbing sceptre and her glistening honeypot, and you'll be fine. There's being figurative and there's being unsexy.
