What is your bed?

Okay so my bed is a bit of a hybrid. I've created it to make my wife and myself comfortable.

Start with a three foot deep Captains Bed Frame. In our case it's made of Maple and is two drawers deep. This is covered with thick, 3/4 inch Plywood. On top of the Plywood rests a six inch thick closed cell foam pad. (You know those mattresses sold in high end stores made of the form shaping foam? That's what this pad is made of.)

The pad is covered with a sheet and then topped with a light weight Comforter. The pillows are the same foam as the pad. To say that this bed is supportive and comfortable is making an understatement.

So what is your bed?

Cat

I have a Tempur-pedic foam mattress, much like the memory foam one you're talking about Cat. It's great for sleeping, but lousy for sex. No return bounce. So I have a coil-spring bed in the spare room just for the fun part. Guarantees no wet spots that way too.

I have a Japanese futon, that is, a cotton and wool padded mattress on tatami (the sort of thing you find on the floor of a dojo). I have twice slipped a disc, and it is the only thing that doesn't hurt my back. It is excellent for sex except that it is too low!

I sleep on a futon on the floor for similar reasons. I have a scoliosis and arthritis in my back, hips, knees and feet. If I sleep on a soft bed, I can't walk the next day.

Gotta CalKing NASA mattress on a plain steel frame. Great for sleeping and just the right height for sex in a variety of positions.

super-king, pocket sprung with divan.

Heavenly comfortable, nice and firm support, a good height for sex and drawers for convenient storage, plus it splits down into two singles for getting up and down the stairs and hubby is far enough away that he doesn't kick me when he's asleep. Top it all off with Egyptian cotton linen, goosedown bedding and a sexy husband and it's a veritable paradise.

I guess it's ok if you have a slipped disk or similar, but without a remote control, tricky to self-operate. But as for no matress - well, I ask you, is that the way to do it these days ?

Babs:
That's relatively easy to fix, at need.

Dragon, you offerin to bring your wing in there? Make it a feather bed or is everything scaled to proportion?

Last I looked, there was one little, fluffy white cat in my king-sized bed who somehow manages to stretch out just so that from tip of nose to the end of her tail she makes it impossible for two grown humans to settle in. Try to move her, and she takes it as a challenge. She starts fighting to keep her territory and spot.

Bedtime is always interesting... ;)

Twin mattress and box spring sitting on the floor. No frame. 3 pillows.

My bed is a home made log frame with a plywood base with a sleep number base and mattress
