Hey everyone! It's time for the next spotlight thread and this time it's on Phaedre!

In case you're new or need a reminder, here are the rules:

1. only those who have specifically given their explicit permission to participate in this process. people may do so by posting to this thread so saying. yes, this means that people might edit their posts and revoke their consent: if you do, please post again with that change.

2. after a thread runs its course, the spotlighted HTer selects any person responding yes to this thread and creates the next thread.

edit: when you select someone, please PM him or her to let that person know.

3. whatever disagreements we may have with forumites, the spotlight thread is not a place for mockery. people may choose to share what they like, with the understanding that such sharing ought not to be ammunition for abuse.

Now ask away!

Here goes:

Favorite book?
Favorite author?
Favorite genre of music?
Favorite band/composer?
Favorite movie?
Favorite painting?

G'day Phee,

What is it about Samurai that gets your motor running?

I have the pleasure of knowing Phaedre from elsewhere as well as here. She's a beautiful kind person that I'd like to get to know better.

And when my brain is working a little better, I'll be back for the Grand Inquisition. ;)

TD: great choice!

phaedre: i know you've already answered these elsewhere but i think it'll be interesting to see if your answers differ this time around. :>

1. what is your favorite word?
2. what is your least favorite word?
3. what turns you on [creatively, spiritually or emotionally]?
4. what turns you off?
5. what is your favorite curse word?
6. what sound or noise do you love?
7. what sound or noise do you hate?
8. what profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
9. what profession would you not like to do?
10. if heaven exists, what would you like to hear god say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

ed

These are starting off fairly straightforward which is a good thing for a lurker like me. :)

Favorite book?
Of all time has to be The Lord of the Rings. It brightened my otherwise miserable childhood.

Favorite author?
I'm not convinced I have a favourite author. There are lots that I like and regularly buy their books but it all depends of what I'm reading at the time. I have hundreds of books by hundreds of different authors stored. Favourites have been Tolkien, Steven Brust, Jacqueline Carey, Storm Constantine, Lindsey Davis and Alison Weir.

Favorite genre of music?
I have eclectic taste but I gravitate toward Rock more than anything else.

Favorite band/composer?
I would have to say Judie Tzuke since I have been a fan of hers from the very beginning.

Favorite movie?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Favorite painting?
The Execution of Lady Jane Grey by Paul Delaroche.

What is it about Samurai that gets your motor running?
The history of the period fascinates me. I love the amazing armour and the masterwork of the different weapons. The complexity and at the same time the simplicity of Bushido code have always interested me.

It will as I haven't looked to see!

1. what is your favorite word?
superkalifragilitiousexpialidotious I have no idea if I spelt int correctly but it guaranteed to raise a smile.

2. what is your least favorite word?
Any thing that is mean spirited attracts my ire. Certain vernacular words make me squirm.

3. what turns you on [creatively, spiritually or emotionally]?
Apparently I respond well to being in love. =) Literature, art, music all hit the spot in various ways too.

4. what turns you off?
Same as number 2. Longwinded reptitious trolling makes me roll my eyes on a fairly regular basis as does evangelising .

5. what is your favorite curse word?
I'm not known for cursing or swearing generally but I occasionally drop the f-bomb though bugger is probably most frequently used.

6. what sound or noise do you love?
I love the sound of the sea.

7. what sound or noise do you hate?
My children screaming at me.

8. what profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I always wanted to be a veterinary surgeon.

9. what profession would you not like to do?
I would have a hard time with anything that entailed being attached to a desk. Tele-sales in particular seems rather depressing.

10. if heaven exists, what would you like to hear god say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
"You did a good enough job and everything that you could do."

I would like to know your biggest regret and if you could go back in time what would you do if anything to change it.

*raises Hand* pick me :)

What was your favourite toy as a kid?

If you were a super hero what super powers would you want and why?

What would be your biggest addiction?

Who would you want to be stranded on a desserted island with?

wonderful choice....waiting for BG's list of questions.

Any special meaning behind your name here? It's not the same as the one you use elsewhere. Any particular reason? Which came first?

That's a really tough one to answer so, if you don't mind, I'll answer when I've given it some thought.

What was your favourite toy as a kid?
My Godparents gave me a teddy bear when I was four which I still had up until about 3 years ago when she basically disintegrated form age. She was my only teddy and she stayed with me through thick and thin.

If you were a super hero what super powers would you want and why?
Hmm, right now that's an easy one to answer as it would have to be teleportation so that I could visit my fiance whenever I wanted to.

What would be your biggest addiction?
Addictions? None, but I really appreciate Green and Blacks choclolate. :D

Who would you want to be stranded on a deserted island with?
All of my friends then we could have a wild time!

I have had reason to keep my online identities separate and (mostly) anonymous so I have a different name at each of the forums, blogs, etc where I hang out to avoid overlap and being searched for. If you know who I am elsewhere then generally speaking you must have made it onto my friends list. :)

I greatly enjoyed reading the Greek tragedy Hippolytus and had already considered Phaedra as an online name when I came across Lit. I was also reading Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart so it seemed a perfect fit for here, though I had to tweak the spelling slightly.

What piece of literature do you best associate yourself with?

What book, play, film, etc. do you see yourself depicted in?

Of course i don't mind!! and If its not something you feel like discussing feel free not to answer.... or answer just part of it (would you go back to change something in your past.)

I went a little deep with my question... it sure isn't a whats your favorite color kind of question and I would understand if you are not comfortable answering it .....:rose:

I'm sorry this is going to be slightly vague but...

Some years ago I made a choice which turned out to be a bad one and the ripple effect on other things including relationships and friendships was rather major. I really ought to have realised at the time that it was the wrong thing to do but either didn't or just decided to do it anyway. So if I could go back in time I'd shake some sense into myself so that I made a better choice.

What piece of literature do you best associate yourself with?
I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean but I favour reading fiction especially fantasy novels.

What book, play, film, etc. do you see yourself depicted in?
For a book I'd probably be a very dull piece of non-fiction. Not sure about the others, maybe a romantic comedy like 'You've got mail' for a film.

how would you characterize your spiritual beliefs?

I have been brought up as a Christian and usually tick that box on the census etc. Having said that I would class myself as an agnostic.

Thank you!

Who would play you in your biopic?

Have you ever had a crush on a literary or fictional character?

If you could change one thing about the society we live in today, what would it be and why?

Who is the most important person in your life, and why?

When you're driving alone in your car, what do you most often think about?

What do you first notice in a man?

What do you regret that you've never done?

What is your greatest strength?

my turn my turn

Have you ever used a ouiji board?

If you were a dessert, what would you be and why?

If you suddenly came into a vast sum of money, what is the first thing you would buy?

Which Disney character do you most identify with?

Who would play you in your biopic?
Oh that's an easy one: Meg Ryan.

Have you ever had a crush on a literary or fictional character?
Not that I can remember though maybe, possibly Aragorn.

If you could change one thing about the society we live in today, what would it be and why?
Prejudice. It's a dreadful thing to experience and witness.

Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
I have to say that my children are the most important people in my life, though my fiance is equally important but in a different way.

When you're driving alone in your car, what do you most often think about?
What else can I do to make life better for my children and, by extension, me.

If I'm not doing that then I'm thinking about my man.

What do you first notice in a man?
Oh tough one to answer. Physically his hands; hands tell you an awful lot about a person but the joy of an online relationship is that physical appearances aren't necessarily the first thing that you notice and so you can really get an idea and feel for someone's personality.

What do you regret that you've never done?
Something out of my control; I have never been pregnant.
Something in my control; I would love to have travelled more.

What is your greatest strength?
It is sometimes described as a weakness but I am incredibly determined (aka stubborn) and that has got me through some very difficult times.
