every elected position whose term is up. obviously, not president, but certain congresscritters in either the house of representatives or senate, as well as governors. in certain US states, judges are also elected, and at the muncipal level, sherrifs, mayors, etc.

"I'm posting from the voting booth..." Bwhahahaha!

We have a couple of state issues on the ballot that interest me greatly, one being that they want to build four gambling casinos in the state. I think it's a terrible idea.

I have to say all the judicial elections this time are giving me a headache. Kind of came down to who was the bigger schyster. There was even one who was accused of taking kickbacks--and has, in conjunction with 2 other judges in his area--over 1000 juvenile cases being overturned. One of his people tried to hand me a pamphlet on my way in. I said, you must be joking--and I think you are about 2 feet closer to the polls than you are allowed. Shall I make a phone call? Poor bastard was obviously not expecting someone who actually paid attention to the news over the last year or so.

My parents drummed civic duty into us until we were nearly ill with it--but even I thought about skipping this one. (Didn't tho--guess one more year I will escape a haunting by my father. Woohoo!)

4 casinos? jeez, that sounds like a lot. is the state having trouble staying within budget?

minx: i'm from a state that doesn't vote on judges. do you see merits to the practice? i always thought of it as a bad idea, to be honest. ?

Well, if it's like around here, most of the local officials end up running unopposed since they're the same people that are on pretty much every other committee in town.

When I was in college, I actually campaigned for a judge who was a personal friend of my dad (he was a justice of the peace--we had a jail cell in our front room for the first 3 years of my life). Now that I'm a little older, IMHO, I don't think it is a good idea for someone who is deciding other people's fates to be appointed by popularity contest.
