Winter Holidays
themes: winter holiday traditions (dreidels, gift giving, etc.), cold weather (snow), holiday mythology (Santa, elves), etc.
starts: November 10
closes: December 7
winners announced: December 14

I know. The Halloween Contest hasn't finished. But the Winter Holiday Contest starts in two weeks. You could use the NaNoWriMo challenge to produce your story or stories.

As before, this thread is to encourage authors to write and enter, to support them when the muses fly away, to sympathise when trolls attack, and to shamelessly beg for votes.

For anyone who hasn't entered a themed Literotica contest before:

The advantages are that once you enter, your entry and all your writing gets more attention, votes, feedback and PCs than it would otherwise get. You also get support from members of the Author's Hangout.

The disadvantages are that you will also attract unwelcome attention from trolls and unenlightened critics. The sweeps of duplicated and illegal votes can cause heartbreak. You will probably curse the marking systems and fail to understand how they could possibly have done that to you. It can be a bumpy ride. If you want to know HOW bumpy, read one of the previous support threads e.g. The Halloween Contest Support Thread.

If you really want your writing to improve, critics will be a factor. Entering a themed Literotica contest is one of the easier ways to get noticed.

If in doubt, go for it. You have nothing to lose but your virginity, and if you haven't lost it yet, what are you doing here?

PS. And you could be eligible for the Author's Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest and win nothing but the awe and esteem of your fellow-writers.

PPS. As usual there's a plug for my essay: Entering A Themed Literotica Contest. You will also find more helpful advice from others in the How-To section of the stories listed on Literotica. Some of that advice is much more helpful than mine because after all I'm the instigator of the Last Place Contest.

My fourth contest

Compared to so very many of the authors here at AH, I am still a novice. I wish I could say that my learning curve has shallowed out but far from it.

To first time entries, I say welcome and hope you get the same thrill and rush from the contest as I did and still do.

To all of the other novice writers, like myself, I have learned from reading your posts here. I have found comfort in knowing that there are others who have fallen into the same trenches as I and have picked themselves up and continued on. In some cases even finding humor in the fall.

To the many, oh so more experienced than I; I give thanks. Thanks for the information that I would have otherwise had to learn from hard knocks and for your time and the inspiration that you dispense, so freely and in such abundance. Oh yes; I have even come to value the distractions here, finding them to be enjoyable and necessary.

Now to boast… I just finished my first draft of a winter contest story, just needs editing. Darn, this could be the first time I get two entries in.

To all; Merry Christmas and Good Luck in the Contest

I've managed to make a start on my entry (if it gets finished).
I know who, where, how but not why.

I see no way of fitting this one into my schedule right now. Maybe another year.

You can use NaNoWriMo to write entries for the Winter Holiday contest...

Very true, IF I had any clue what my NaNo was going to be this year. Time is close, and I'm still tossing ideas around.

We're off!

The starting gun has been fired.

The official sticky is now posted at the top of the Authors' Hangout.

A rampaging, two story, red, white and green penis violating a shy, virginal, hippo against her will. I can see it now :)

I don't think you can have a hippo in a story, unless it is a space alien raping her or something like that. You might be able to get by with two hippos cavorting, but that doesn't seem very erotic.

. . . and probably dangerous. Just a thought, can hippos french kiss?

But the Hippo is over 18 and was once an Air Force pilot

The hippo you describe could appear in a story, but sex with a human would not be allowed. As I said, sex between a hippo and a space alien or a cyclops or some other mythical creature would be alright.

Elfie, I doubt if hippos can French kiss, unless they are from France. I'm really not very interested in finding out.

Ok, damnit. I'm gonna make a serious try to at least start writing a contest entry.

I think I'll grab the demon known as Loving Wives by the horns and break it in like a new fish in Shawshank. Just for the votes, you see. :p

URG! I just realized how soon the contest begins. I have started three stories so far and abandoned them all...poor things. I had such hope for each one of them.
I'm learning that personal crap really shuts up the little muse on my shoulder that normally keeps me awake at night, typing until 4 in the morning.
Oh well, hopefully I'll be able to pull something together in time but with no end in sight for my personal shit, I'm not sure. One can only try I suppose.

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one to wake up and fire up their laptop in the wee hours.

I think I'm courting disaster this round. My story has almost no sex in it... have no clue how that happened.

Seems impossible for me to sleep if I don't write out what's rolling around in my brain.

I have the exact opposite problem with my holiday story. The one that I'm toying with right now is nothing but a stroke story. Not that I have anything against them, but I prefer an actual full story to go along with the sex.

I'm now working on my second story. Good god, there is almost no sex in it either. May-be I need to take viagra. I may have to resort to Jenny Jackson Idea of hipos, only change it to where they accost Salvation Army bell ringers.
