The guidelines must pass by a 2/3 majority in order to be put into effect. The poll will stay up for 30 days, will be public (meaning your name will appear in the list beside what you voted for in the results), and will either be an "I agree" or "I disagree" choice. Please read the guidelines carefully before voting.

The guidelines are as follows:

Threads with the topic of Current Governmental National/International Politics will be considered off-topic to the AH and moved by the site administrators to a newly created sub-forum.

Threads with topics that malign or degrade (ie, hate speech) a specific person or a group of people because of their gender, race, sexual preference, or disability shall also be considered off-topic to the AH and moved by the site administrators to the forum they feel most appropriate.

Threads falling within the above mentioned guidelines can be reported by any member citing those guidelines. The admin/mod who receives the report will decide if the reported thread should be moved. This seemed the fairest way to do it so no one could say a thread was moved because a certain group reported it.

Since the last paragraph was mis-worded originally, I am resetting the poll again so that everything is clear. My apologies to those who had already voted. This will be the only reset. Since everyone has had plenty of time to contribute to the discussion of what should be included in the guidelines, it will not be redone for "more definition."

You may go to the original poll thread to see any discussions already posted.

I'd just like to be 100% clear on the posts/threads thing. Does this mean that individual posts will never be excised from threads? That a thread will be banned in toto or not at all?

And will innocent threads (i.e. birthday threads) be moved if they're infected under your proposed guidlines?

And what about this Admin/Mod thing. Have you discussed this with the QUEEN :cattail:? Will the queen be doing all the banning or will this function be delegated to someone else?

relatively easy questions to answer crim. and you've never answered them on the other threads. an honest answer please. so we can make an informed vote.

If you can find a way to make a birthday thread with the topic of Current Governmental National/International Politics, then yes.

Anyway, for reasons previously stated, my vote is no.

For the record, a recap of said reasons:

Politics is not off-topic. For politics to be off-topic, there must be a topic that is on-topic. For instance "writing". And then everything else gets exiled. Game threads to the Playground, non writing advice threads to the How To board, att things LGBT related to the LGBT board, random limericks to the poetry board, and so on.

I understand that heated political discussion attracts and generates douchebaggery and that douchebaggery puts some people off to the extent that they can't enjoy the forum as much as they'd like. But so can, and have, other topics.

If we could focus on douchebaggery and hate speech, and by some kind of moderation find a way to reduce that in a reasonably even-handed way, that's something I would accept. I said so when the subject was brought up last time, and I stand by that. It's not what I want, and I would monitor the outcome of it critically for all the pitfalls that usually come with it, but I'd be willing to give it a try.

But alas, that's not what's up for a vote now, but an arbitrtary ban on a subject that may lead to contentious posting. While giving any other subject that as well may lead to the same, a free pass.

I vote yes. :D Just to get some mellow around here and have fun again.

A complete aside, that's so fun to read next to your avatar.

It's like.."of course that person is into mellow." :D

A tad incongruous I will admit. :D That's my Halloween prank. I'll put up puppies and kittens next. ;)

Not that it's gonna matter, but you actually have to vote for it to count. Just sayin' yep in the thread ain't gonna cut it ;)

I ask, knowing the answer;

Could we try a poll on the subject of douchbaggery alone????????

??????????

????

Results wouldn't be any different, because the arguments are the same.

There's only two possible solutions.

People actually taking stock of their own behavior and realizing it's just as bad as their opposing "usual suspects" and using ignore + mental ignore. At this point, I'd say that's probably a lost cause, because people have been saying it for two years now to no avail.

Or, someone actually moderating the board, removing the worst of the blatantly hateful spewing in an impartial manner. I'd say that one is a lost cause as well.

The preempt on innocent thrills, and this process, has met my expectation of enlightenment. N O T
I will not vote, as I have yet to consider myself legit within my OWN definition.
And for two, I have no problem ignoring or passing by the subtle snippets of character defamation upon myself. For what do these people know of me besides the shallow pools I have chanced to wade in public thus far? It is to my benefit to not appear a threat to anyone’s ego. And what do I really know of them? I have restricted my contributions for the most part to having a little fun.

Real life is a helluva lot more serious, and I choose to relax here. So lighten UP!
That being said; I can only imagine how some must feel with blatant attacks on RL personal situations.

Would I like to sink myself into the personal developments that this forum has to offer? I thought so, but certainly not at the moment, sure as hell nothing I would value as quality. However, there are personalities here that I recognize to be most advantageous to that which I wish to pursue, and with a minimal of feedback on their part. And Stella…don’t you dare leave.

Good luck on your vote; or rather, the recovery. The outcome appears to be of little consequence either way. It’s where you (and I as well), take it from here. I’ll go game somewhere else for tonight.

Oh curse my attempt at a speedy chill...I have a beer slushy now! :(

No, simply because hate speech and assaults are already deleted by admin simply because they are illegal and forum members already have the ability to ignore other posters.

Make your favourite threads a bookmark on your browser and in that manner, avoid the forum threads you don't want to experience.

Awww, crap.... I'm gonna vote "no".

If it was a vote against douchbaggery and hate speech, I'd vote a loud "Hell, yeah", but (gawd help me - I've gotta agree with SR and He_Who_Shall_Not_Be Named + a bunch of others) that CIVIL political debate is important to the forum and many of the people here.

When I add in that I just don't really give a shit anymore (cuz most of y'all are just pixelated asshats who can be shut off with the push of a button!) I vote a resounding "Meh... who cares".

Nope. I really don't think so, Champ. I've given and taken enough hate speech salvos that I am sure it isn't Kitty Mama's policy and it isn't in the forum rules.

Did you and everyone who reads the attack post report it? The guidelines request it and they also recommend using the ignore feature.

I am fully grown with breasts of my own and I won't be belittled. I have dealt with cranky college professors all day and I don't really feel like having one more childish passive aggressive comment thrown my way.

Take a breather. It's nothing against you.

I'm confused. I know, it doesn't take much to do that. :D

Which vote is actually going to count? The one I cast here, or the one I already cast on the other vote? And, who is going to check the two lists for accuracy?

Why didn't Red just copy over the comments to this thread? Why do I have to go back and forth before I can have an opinion?

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

yes, i used to report posts all the time.

Eventually i got a PM from laurel saying that she considers attacks "free speech" and will do nothing to stop them, and that the best thing for the attacked is to pretend it didn't happen. Because if I use MY free speech to proteest it will disrupt the boards, and the attackers are perfectly in their rights and if she banished hate speech she'd be hitler or something.

I asked her why, in that case, do the guidelines say ANYTHING about hate speech, and she said "that's just some stuff that came with the forums."

lately I've started reporting them anyway,. I figure she might as well share the joy of free speech along with me.

that this tells me about all I need to know about you.
What? I'm naive and ignorant of all the troubles you've seen? Yep... I'm caucasian, over 21 and a Canadian. I actively oppose anyone trying to marginalize the elderly and disabled. I think that all treaty agreements with the people who've been on this continent since before European recorded history, are fraudulent and need to be corrected in their favour; with all future claims being limited to essential services thereafter, *please note* injustices are an entirely different matter. I believe everyone who feels the need to join in a family partnership should be free to do so and gain all the privileges of that status without prejudice. Finally, if we all respected each others morals and boundaries then there'd be no jumping to unfair conclusions especially over a paragraph of written text.
