The Summer Lovin' Contest Support Thread

I feel like such a piker, only 81 votes. But I have 19K reads and 8 comments so with a score above 4, I'm content.

Had a reply from a fella who reckoned it would be unwise to do a long tour in underpants, as my characters do. All I can say is that I've based it on personal experience of cycling in lycra shorts and more latterly in regular underpants under baggy shorts, as well as stark bollock naked too (though that latter only over shorter distances). Maybe I'm lucky, maybe my skin is naturally waxy or something, but 250 miles in regular underpants and no chaffing at all.

Oh, and he still gave me a 4, nice chap that he is! :D

A small sweep must have been through today. Lost a half dozen or so votes.
I was back up to around 385 yesterday. Still wondering if the big vac is still coming through.

I expect to end up below the H threshold once it comes.

lol, some stories have far greater improbabilities than underpants and they still get 5s because they're well written and imaginative. i didn't let the underpants issue keep me from giving your story a 5 (not that i'm in any position to know about the chaffing issue, as you couldn't pay me to cycle 250 miles :)) well done. can't wait to read the scottish one.

a winner and a loser combined

Unless you're below 4.0, and/or below qualifying, you have exactly ZERO chance of unseating me from last place :D

No worries Dark. I have dropped below qualifying. Putting the Madge in Danna is currently the highest scoring story in Letters & Transcripts in the last 30 days, 2nd highest in the last year and 70th overall. So I'm happy with that. Add to that the fact that I will have last place in the contest and the rest of you can comfortably exhale.

Looks like the Hoover finally came through.

Lost a bunch of votes sometime in the last 18 hours, and my stupid score jumped from 3.65 - 3.75, with over 270 votes.

I also noticed the leaders on some of the top-lists had some movement. (Loving Wives, for example)

How did everyone come out of it?

No major change here. lost a couple of votes and have gotten a couple back. No real change to speak of. 5:25pm est

Heart Warming Story
09/15/09 by Anonymous in USA
This story was the best Love story I have ever read in my 59yrs on this earth. I had tears in my eyes from the middle of the first chapter to the very end. Stories like this give the heart such a warm and glorious feeling. We don't get those strong feelings like we did when we were younger. I hope that the author of this will continue to write wonderful Love stories that can be shared by all. Thank you so much for warming my Heart.

Another compliment. The score is still stuck in the low 4.40's, though. However, since I live for comments and have nine, now, I'm feeling good.

For every contest I've entered this year (and this is my 1st year here), my amount of votes have increased. My scores are just about the same, hovering from 3.9ish to 4.1ish. My reads have all increase, except this contest. I blame that on how many stories have been entered. People can only read so much. I've noticed some of the stories have been very long, even I have gone from one page to two pages. The whole thing has been fun, though.

Size only matters in some areas.

Personally, if I had done a better job on my story, I probably could have cut it from six pages to three and gotten a better completion rate and votes from readers.

Hopefully, I’ll live and learn. Though, my life’s experiences seem to make that unlikely.

The longer you're around and the more stories you have, the more patient readers are willing to be when it comes to longer stories. I think my entry ended up being about 5 Lit pages, but it's still gotten plenty of reads and votes. If I had submitted such a long story without being already known, I doubt I would have nearly as many votes.

You just have to build your own following. At the end of every story I write now, I ask readers to add me to their favorites list if they liked what they read.

My story was one of the long ones. The reason is that in a contest all chapters have to be sent in one submission. I would have made mine in three chapters if I could have but then it wouldn't have qualified for the contest. The story would have been the same.

I agree that so many submissions for the contest alone would have cut back on amount of reads. (95 in all) The lengh of my story probably cut way back on my amount of reads also. With over 11,000 reads and over 378 votes, I'm still pretty happy with it.

Actually, I think multi-part stories can still enter a contest, but all chapters have to be submitted at the same time. And only one is eligible to win.

At least, that's what I'm hoping for with the Halloween contest . . . .

I copied this off the submission thread:

- All submissions must be stand-alone stories created for this contest theme. We will not accept individual chapters of a larger work submitted separately. If you have a multi-chaptered contest-themed submission, please submit all chapters together as one story submission.

I take that to mean one submission, be nice to have it clarified. Anyone else have an opion?

I took it to mean it's counted as one submission, but doesn't have to be all one file.

I'm going to PM Laurel and see if I can get clarification.

What slyc_willie says. It took me years to get most of my stories into the 100K-200K reads, but longevity has it's advantages, and the stories are starting to get more reads out of the chute.

My Nudist Day Entry is a great example. 8 pages long, and in the Loving Wives category of all places. A ton of reads and a pretty high score. I gotta believe a lot of that is repeat customers.

I still would have normally made it three separate chapters, if not for the contest. I'll be interested in seeing if you can submit multiple chapters as one submission. If so, I may have my Halloween story 90% done.

Had another small sweep. Took away about 11 votes. (time now is 7:45 am est)

votes were backup to 379 late last night. I do want to say that the contest has readers reading more of my older stories (which it usually does) and with the new 'recent activity' on the submission page it makes it easier to find their comment.

It's been fun, good luck to everyone. :)

Hey Sophia

I lost 5 votes and my score went up too, wish I knew how that works?

There is a lot of thories on how some votes or voters get outcasted. In your case the five votes were of lower votes than your average which of course would bring the remaining average higher.

We will never know exactly how they decide which ones goes, but in most cases it helps the writer end up with a better score. (which is good)
