Is defined by disagreeing with a woman... or, more classically, it is defined as deconstructing the widely held notion that women are better than men and, as a gender, beyond the realm of criticism - unlike the male gender.

That is all.

Is a sexist a misogynist?

Hugh Hefner and Jerry Falwell have been called sexists, but that demonstrates how worthless the term is for anything other than an insult. There are profound differences between Hefner and Falwell, or were when Jerry was still alive.

It's just a funny word to look at. It sounds a little like massage. It has some gyn in it. Mis is almost Miss. So, it is boils down to the rubbing of the reproductive organs of unmarried women.

That doesn't sound threatening at all.

Not necessarily; but there is a lot of intersect. A sexist assigns different rules according to gender; a misogynist thinks of women as inferior to men, approximately speaking. Although that is the pre-Newspeak definition; today I outlined the Newspeak definition. :)

Wow, that's heretical.

Indeed it does present a hell of an inconsistency in how women approach even the definition of sexism. If Hugh Hefner, in particular, is so sexist, then why do so many women flock to him?

It suggests that women flock to certain sexists. It's not logical...

Misandry.
That word wasn't even officially in the dictionary until recently.

Which means, basically, that the hatred of men wasn't even thought to be possible.

Misandry is still acceptable by society - if I am wrong about this then Maureen Dowd would never have gotten her book "Are Men Necessary?" on the store shelves. Nor would she have kept her job as a columnist on the New York Times after she wrote articles like "The Incredible Shrinking Y".

ETA:
Oh and you're kinda wrong, too. The antonym to Misogyny is philogyny.

They are well paid. Ask something difficult next time.

You, sir, are insulting a woman's honor.
This calls for a squirt gun duel at 12 paces at noon.

(This used to be cutting edge romance novel material, ya know.)
(Did you know that you could go to jail in Seattle, Washington, for defaming a woman, about 1-2 decades ago?)

They probably made an exception for any woman who had anything to do
with Hugh Hefner.

Oh Oh. It looks like somebody got Mr. Kraft angry.

Poor LT. His hatred of women is obviously due to an overbearing mother and lack of a positive male role model.
Maybe his dad should have spent more time with him or...oh, yeah. I forgot.

Although I respect your self-appointed right to reassign meaning to arbitrary English words, I must respectfully disagree. xD

If all people felt the way you do, we'd have men either in chains as beast of burden, or strapped down in our basements as nothing but sperm dispensers (ugh... down, plot bunny! Down, I say!). Misogyny is too strong a term for someone who just has a disagreement with a woman or even what they perceive to be an accurate generality of women. I believe the term you're looking for is "humanity."

By the way, I don't know a lot of people and their personal beliefs, but I do know a few women who I would definitely qualify as sexists, and I don't believe I'm selling my gender out by saying it either, lol.

I only described the definition of misogyny as practiced on this forum.

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less."

Where did you get that claptrap from?
Misogyny is the hatred of women as defined by their sex - this is like real fucking HATRED. Nothing to do with superiority. Like any hatred - it's often irrational.

I agree.
