Deleting comments on a story

Hey everyone!

Not sure if I've ever posted in the forums, but had a question I wanted to post for other authors on here.

I recently submitted a story, which was my third story, and within a day, all the public comments I've received have been mighty nasty. Is this a common thing, for all these anonymous public comments that aren't really feedback so much as hate.

Wasn't a particularly volatile topic- it was a MFM threesome story, for which I got the comment twice that from my "sick" writing, I must have a desire for young boys, and someone who said "What they said", and someone who anonymously said I should stick to writing the gay stories (My first two stories were gay male).

The last comment was their opinion, so no big deal, but I guess what I'm asking is (since I haven't posted a story since 2000), are all the anonymous story-bashers common when you post a new one? Or are group sex stories really offensive these days. :D

I love it here, and love writing this stuff!

New or apparently new writers tend to attract trolls with no talent and mountains of resentment. If you delete their comments and insist on continuing to write, they go attack someone they hope is sensitive enough that they can pat themselves on the back for driving the writer away.

Ah, you broke a taboo. :p

Welcome to the AH, Hedonis.

There are quite a few readers who click on a group sex story and expect to read FFM, not FMM. They're perfectly fine with girls doing each other and the guy as well, but if the guys fool around . . .

You attracted some trolls, that's it. We all get them to one degree or another, depending on the category of the story. Loving Wives by far attract the most trolls, followed by BDSM.

As for deleting a comment, it's up to you. I've deleted a few who were just bashing me without offering anything constructive, but for the most part, I leave even the bad ones alone.

Your mistake was going for MFM instead of FMF ;)

There's a lot of hating on man-on-man sex, especially if the category is one where readers come looking to read about hetero and lesbian.

Of course, there are trolls who troll for trolling's sake, and they can appear in just about any category. By all means, erase such comments. Vitriol is of no use to you or anyone else.

Hi, Hedonis, and welcome to the AH. If that was a LW story, it would have also gotten blasted and, as others have pointed out, a group sex story is expected to be FFM, or a large group, so long as there is no MM sex in it. You can have all the FF sex you want, or you can write in the Gay Male category, but if you have gay or bi men anywhere else, expect to get trolled.

As for deleting the PM, if it's just nasty and insulting, go ahead. Personally, I sometimes leave them if I find them amusing.

I'm still attracting an occasional anonymous basher--for the same reasons you note, H--even after posting 350 stories. Relatively few, though, and they tend to go away from commenting, although they are resilient in voting those zeros.

Feel free to erase away on the comments. The site gives you that power. I'll leave a bashing one up if it's signed and is bashing the story for something the story actually does (or fails to do that it should have done). If it's just bashing me or the choice of topic or something incoherent, I erase it. I tend to erase all anonymous bashing comments. They were cowards from the get go.

Really? That's so sad. :(

Strangely, though, there's no male-male sex in the new story. It's pretty much a straight up MFM threesome where both guys are having sex with the woman.

My first two stories were gay male, but this one was not.

Not that in subsequent chapters with these new characters, the guys won't be playing, but for now it's pretty "regular" group sex- if any of that is regular ;)

Thanks for all the replies, everyone! I wrote my two gay male stories (Hike and Hike Part 2) in 2000, but haven't really done much since then. Came back and found out that "Hike" had won Gay male story of the year in 2000 (DOH!), but thought I'd vary my categories this time when writing.

Thanks again- hope to be submitting a lot more in the days to come!

I try to make the sexual make-up of the action in the story clear in the title or the description so any potential reader knows what they are getting into. I find that keeps trolling to a minimum. In my latest story there was a lot of variety of types of action (anal, lesbian, bukkake, incest and a gang bang) so I posted a warning at the beginning of the story that unless the reader was open for a lot of variety they should read something else. I still got a few chickenshit anonymous comments, but I also got a lot of really kind comments defending my work.

I never delete comments however. I will answer them with a counter comment if I think they are deliberately or ignorantly missing the point of the story.

I've been working on a multi part story for the last few months and wrote a character into the fourth chapter that works as a representation of the attitude of the typical misogynist anonymous commenter. Needless to say, he is publicly humilated and exposed as weak and impotent. It was a fun scene to write.

Once you've been struck by a troll on a MMF story, H, expect to have them around for a while. I have acquired one on my latest group story (which is doing fine in the rating and "favorite story" voting realms other than the troll). He/she will continue posting nasty comments for a while and I just erase them, knowing it's more effort for them to post them than it is for me to just erase them. Eventually they will stop, because they will run out of gas and they'll notice that I just continue to post what I want to post in the way of stories.

I'm curious about the story now. :) Wanna post a link so we can read what's causing the commotion?

I think I've only ever deleted one or two comments. The first was on my first story- I was, more or less, accused of plagiarism, which totally offended me. If the comments really, really bother you, delete them. Otherwise ignore them and keep writing.

This happened to me. The idiot in question accused me of plagarising a story I had never even heard of. They were irate and said that I'd be basically strung up in the street in France. Of course they posted anonymously. Wanker. I just deleted the comment. Don't respond. This is how they get their thrills. They must be boring!

Ha ha ha!

Here's some anonymous feedback I received by email- not sure when I have ever "preached" about any of this stuff- since it's just fluffy adult fiction. Some people take things too seriously, I guess:

Fuck you! Just because not everyone is a sick wimp cuck like you doesn't mean you have the right to preach to people who don't like slut wives who fuck other people just because they are bored. I bet you get off seeing your slut wife fucking other men and women dont you? then you suck the cum out of your wife's dirty nasty cunt! fuck off and die!

Man! Who'd have thought one wee little story about group sex could cause such angst? :D

I'd better write more.

Oh, that's sort of a right of passage in any category, LOL. I've gotten similar comments in the group category. Something about writing sick gay filth and tricking people into reading it. It's all just nonsense, of course. I leave the comments up to amuse myself later. :D

ETA: Looks like you've got a stray 'Loving Wives' troll from that comment you posted above. *snort* Yes, clearly you need to write more if they're so aggravated.

I don't think I've ever deleted a comment. Most of the nasty ones are pretty funny. For one story the commentators started arguing and calling each other names - good theater!

I have deleted duplicate comments whether they were complimentary or not. Otherwise, I rarely delete anything. Some of the nasty ones I actually find to be amusing, like the example that Hedonis posted. Others seem funny, partly because the writers seem to be only semi-literate. I will never erase honest criticism and, of course, I will also never erase praise.
