aphrodisiacs

Are aphrodisiac's necessary and do they work?

Particularly in the BDSM world?

Ha ha yes obviously they're absolutely necessary: nobody EVER has sex without them.

Aphrodisiacs are a placebo, so they're like any other placebo: they work if you think they do.

So that's all I need to know? lol

Maybe a few more opinions before we close down the thread.

What do you think?

I agree with the above posters. There has been absolutely no scientific proof that so-called 'aphrodisiacs' actually work consistently and safely on all subjects using them. They are certainly NOT necessary because were they, the human race would have died out a few tens of thousands of years ago. What else do you need to know, really?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm wondering what the fuck the aphrodiasic has to merit a possessive apostrophe? An aphrodiasic's what, mackman, AN APHRODIASIC'S WHAT?!

Maybe some other peoples experiences with them.
Maybe a herbalist can comment on the make up of some homeopathic compounds that help the libido or that help with physical stamina.

Those are just a couple of things I can think of.

I've always been skeptical of them (meaning I assume they don't work) and I don't see why they'd be needed. Even if they did work, a chemical compound is no substitute for your sexual skills.

For me, the only aphrodisiac needed is pain.

Pain is a very strong aphrodisiac.

No...you didn't buy the Horny Goat Weed did you?

Keep it away from the goat!

agreed. /end thread! :)

I agree power is a strong aphrodisiac.

Power may not BE the aphrodisiac for everyone.

2 or 3 people have decided that the question has been answered to their liking so we should end the thread.

I don't believe that is a reason to end this thread, or any thread for that matter.

When I mentioned aphrodisiacs I wanted to know about all types of aphrodisiacs. The chemical, herbal and psychological.

Real?

The above posters are correct that there is no medical/scientific evidence that aphrodisiacs are real. Some "aphrodisiacs" are high in certain minerals and vitamins that can promote energy - B vitamins, magnesium, etc. This is the only hypothesis that I have ever read that gives a reason for why various foods have a reputation of being an aphrodisiac, and it's basic biochemistry and nutrition - nothing too exciting.

Of course it will! As long as you believe in it. :)
