I am the victim of a Lit misunderstanding

Last night I posted a thread on How To forum (it should have gone here). The thread was an invitation to discuss "advanced" male masturbation techniques. In it I mentioned several sex toy products by name, and included links to product descriptions and reviews in different retail catalogues. I also posted an image of a product from one of those catalogues.

I should have seen this coming - the post was interpreted as spam, and the account was disabled.

In hindsight - duh. It was a first post from that account, but hardly my first Lit post - I'm a Lit author with several toplist stories. I created an alt for this subject because I didn't want my stories associated with a thread about jerking off.

I don't blame the moderators for "shooting first and asking questions later" - I run a web site myself and each week must delete a couple obnoxious spam posts about masturbation.

My understanding is that mentioning products and even posting links and images of them is not banned in this forum. Am I mistaken?

I also assume that sex-positive discussions about enhancing the experience of male masturbation are also not banned here. That's what I was trying to initiate, and I would like to try again, but once bitten, twice shy. Hopefully the moderator will contact me and clear things up.

Thanks,

JMB

The rules are not that difficult:

Any post or PM made with the intent of promoting another site or a product will be removed.

The decision is made by the moderator. You can't appeal with the argument "But it wasn't my intent" because then just any spammer could do the same. So, the intent is determined by the content.

I also don't see a reason why it's necessary to post images and link product reviews to discuss "advanded male masturbation" techniques. People are able to find the products if they are mentioned.

Thanks for that, Prima.

Without interpretation or context "intent" is in the eye of the beholder - I don't blame the moderator (it may have been a 'bot, too) for banning the post and account. With my posts here now I'm providing context and interpretation.

I could have posted with no links or images, except sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. In the case of one named sex toy and several named producers of tasteful porn DVDs, the particular names are highly useful info. The links were to reviews and product descriptions.

All that was hard info accumulated by me over many years, and I wanted to share it all. I have no relationship with any of the vendors mentioned.

It would have been better to mention it directly, without the links. If I were referencing a porn video like that I would likely have gone quasi-APA; title, production house, date, if I wanted to be that specific. As it stood, I honestly thought you were one of a new breed of spambots; smarter, more literate, faster, stronger. I was preparing to greet our new robot overlords. ;)

Meh. I reported your other thread, and I'm sure others did as well, so I'd imagine that a flesh-and-blood mod took action.

You had one post, and within that post, you'd promoted another site. Maybe you weren't intending to spam, but if you run a website, then surely you should know that stuff like this is usually frowned upon. Would you want someone doing that to your site?

If it looks like spam and smells like spam. . .

Yeah you're right - hindsight is 20-20, and in hindsight I should have seen this coming a mile away.

~~~
Here's a little more context. The product I posted an image of was a cyberskin masturbation sleeve that doesn't mold the opening in the image of a pussy, mouth or asshole. I personally find those embarrassingly puerile, yet it's hard to find one of these products that doesn't do that. Even though I have one, I spent more than two hours on the 'net searching for a replacement when mine was wearing out.
So I really wanted to convey what this thing looks like, and the exact name of the product. In that instance a link to product descriptions wasn't purely necessary, because once you have the name its googleable, and with the picture you know why you want to bother.
On the tasteful, erotic girl-girl porn DVD producers, the names plus a link to a rental site that has all of the five or six main companies, and another link to a site that has customer reviews of individual films was really useful info.
Maybe some are reading the above and thinking they want this info. That's who I was posting for, plus myself, because there's certainly good stuff that I don't know about that once someone gets the idea, he will post.
