Have some people no brains, at all?

I am a gambling woman! Who wants to make a bet that these are college graduates off spending their last summer hiking before they have to find a real job?

I can understand that people want to there and hike through the pistachio groves. I can understand that this particular region of Iraq hasn't been too affected by the wars in the area.

But, c'mon . . . use a little common sense. Americans aren't too welcome around there (although our money is, I bet).

It's such a tourist attraction, bet it might even get a 1 star rating :D

I hear the land mines are in bloom this time of year. What morons!

Nah, the Kurds are pretty west-friendly. It's not the model of modern democracy in the mid-east that the US and the EU are touting it to be, with loads of corruption and a loose grip on the concept of rule of law. But niether the people or the politicians have any big beef with Americans. And hey, tourism money is tourism money.

But really, if you're there, keep a fucking margin to the Iranian border, will ya? Go hike in the other direction.

The story is rather confusing. it appears that these guys started off in the Turkish Kurd area then crossed into the Iraqui Kurd area and then (by mistake?) into the Iranian Kurdish area.

All the Kurds are Iranian in ethnicity and speak Kurdish which is an Indo Iranian language. As well as these three countries they are also a significant part of the Syrian population. Basically however, their first loyalty is to their extended family and local tribes rather than any nation state. Assuming they are all pro western would be rash.
