Men are from Earth, Women...from somewhere else!

My oldest son, referring to, "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" the approximate title of a book some years back, made the comment which became the title of this. He called a few minutes ago.

He was referring to a recent situation, when faced with six children, all in the same room at the same time, found himself frustrated trying to deal with them.

"My wife can manage it!" He said in somewhat awed tone. "She can go about what she is doing and ignore the crying, screaming, fighting and never miss a beat!"

Although he has but two children and they were babysitting four others, I commiserated with him as I raised eight children and they wore me out; kept me always on edge that one was hurt or in distress. I could do nothing else but watch them constantly. I will say, in my own defense, that I never lost a single one and none suffered major injury under my watchful eye.

"Men are from Earth! Women aren't from Venus, but somewhere else!"

I had to laugh, of course, and agree with him; women are an entirely different species and come equipped in ways men are not.

I didn't have the heart to tell him about little boys and girls masturbating and certainly not when the girls reach puberty...he's gonna have to learn that all by himself.

He has, however, decided that two, a boy and a girl, is the limit and he ain't havin' no more damned kids.

Heh.;)

(As if it were up to him!)

The SO and I have only the one, and she's definitely enough for both of us. Now and then, when Little One is being a sweet angel, we consider having another.

And then Little One launches into one of her tirades.

The SO would get mad at me for this, but she has as less a fuse for our daughter's antics as I do. Indeed, given the stresses of her job, she is often more cross with Little One than I am.

i sometimes feel that I come from a different planet, because I have a bit more patience. At least in the evenings. The mornings are a different matter. ;)

I think age perhaps endows one with more patience, especially around children. It seems to me, and I certainly could be wrong, that about a ten year age difference, with the male being older, is what nature intended.

There are many questions I have not found answers to, among them, the necessity for most couples to work full time and share child raising. This becomes a political argument and I will not pursue it at this time, but still, deciding to have a child should become the primary focus of the parents, it seems to me.

Age... Sage... it has a ring.

It is not a necessity for most couples to work full time and share child raising... it is a current convention bound in aspiration. Some enlightened nations, Scandinavian nations, an old favourite of yours, Ami...go, have have managed to 'have their cake and eat it'. But that requires a forward thinking government; most governments act retrospectively.

I suspect the explanation is simple. Females likely have none of the neural stuff that responds to whining and crying and squalling. It isnt there to be stimulated and alarmed.

Perspective gives you patience. You have a great deal of both.
