I'm really not going to post any differently because I am a mod folks. If that is a requirement that I was unaware of I will take the steps needed to not be one anymore.

Do you expect mods to change what they post or how because they are mods?
Why does it seem that mods are expected to not be who they were before they were mods?

No, I expect the mods to be chosen based on their ability to boot trolls, be polite and respectful when warranted, and be strict when necessary. If a mod can't do that, then they don't need to be chosen to be a mod in the first place.

I think the lot of us just want the mods to actually mod properly to protect this forum from going the way of the GB.

Not to mention any names...but...Not being a trolling asshole themselves would be a nice bonus in a mod.

The thread's relating to me, so it seems right I say something - I'd like my moderating staff to not be jerkasses. Not a difficult task.

In one of the threads recently moved from here to the Personals, Kajira made a sarky comment about something I'd said. I replied, she followed up over private messages, and this thread was created.

I have much more of an issue with Marquis being an unmitigated abusive douche and I can't put him on ignore, but oh well.

If I could put a mod on ignore other than when they're modding, great.

That's why the GB is fine with me. I can put any ass on ignore.

Here, I have to listen.

And I guess I don't mind naming names :D

I haven't seen a whole lot of Marquis, so I can't really judge.

I think it's a little disingenous to think you're a "regular poster" if you're a mod. It's a responsibility and a privilege and one I've had and didn't envy or enjoy.

Not one I'd want here, where I come for "free speech" and "no spam" and that's the main restriction.

Moderators cannot be put on ignore and are vested by the site with some authority, and I think responsibility and tact needs to go with that.

I don't know what happened, really, but I do know I wouldn't touch a mod position with a long pole because I know it would make me be more diplomatic than is my wont. I CAN do it, surely, but I don't want to. There is a difference.

So that's my view and whether or not it applies, that's how I would treat it. Like a job.

Okay. That's just my real experience. I keep forgetting he's a mod and I've tried ignoring him at least three separate times over the years.

He shows up on the GB every now and then and that's therapeutic.

Though it seems to be largely a thankless bureaucratic job, for newcomers there's an implicit connotation of authority and experience. You probably do have to take that into consideration in your tone and actions, especially when dealing with people new to the forum.

I don't think Mods should be any different to how they are.

I don't think newbies or long standing people should be either.

I had issues with Marquis, more than once, I have had issues with other people here.

Frankly I am glad KC is a Mod, she has been here a while, taken knocks and rode them out. She has real experience of BDSM, and is not easily provoked. She has run her own groups and taken control of her own life.

Throughout it all she has been someone who has been exactly who she seems to be.

Why change?, Mods are not Gods, they are people.

I prefer to have someone as Mod who has life experience of all kinds of things, KC and Cat both have that and should not change who they are and what they post because of a title.

One man's douchenozzle is another man's truth teller.

This is about mods, but it's also about the culture of this board and what KC has to navigate.

One of the problems I find with people who say douchey things is that most of them have now decided thanks to FOX news or some insanity, that if I say "that's a douchebag thing to say" it now means I have trampled on their free speech. Wah wah wah. I am oppressed. Double triple oppressed if the person who said that to me has the power to move my post, though they never would.

I've been in and around variations of this discussion about 8 or 9 times with a lot of different people.

No, you're not oppressed, you said something douchey. And now we're going to watch 45 minutes of defensive moves where a simple "that was lame, I'm sorry" would suffice.

No, douche. It's called disagreement. I don't have to agree with you. I don't have to process it all out till I agree with you, I don't have to listen. You can't control reaction.

For example, if I were the mod in the other thread and I said "that was a douche move, Mr.Sir, there" it's not like I pulled the post. It's not like I moved it to thread limbo.

To his credit, Mr. Sir (and Marquis) have not, to my knowledge, pitched any kind of "wah wah, my free speech is compromised" hissy when people have called them out on bullshit.

However, "sorry, that was douchey of me" seems to be in short supply.

Periodically "I'm sorry" has even passed my own lips without 2 hours of contortions, because people are entitled to that kind of salving unless they're too stupid to understand that when it comes to them.

There are plenty of people who don't get the social grace or lube of giving a rat's ass about anyone else's feelings, only their own.

"I'm sorry" is called socialization. It's not a form of state run oppression when people expect it of you. No one's forcing you to do anything, they're just saying "this is what I need from you to feel safe around you at all." I've lost interaction with someone over an apology I don't feel I owe, because they wanted it for someone else's behavior. You do get to dish those out, but Jesus H, pick your battles or you're just a douche.

Hopefully we're adults, and if a mod does disagree the same way anyone else would with us, we're not going to attribute some kind of mystical woo woo of awesome board power to them, just because they have to read all the freaking spam and make it go away.

This is moderating a porn board, not Senate. KC seems genuine and good news and I like her.

She could also still be a 24 year old dude living in his momma's basement, so could I. Internet, people.

your response to drugged, trained and whored out?

If so i think she had a valid point. It didnt come across as sarky to me..just a reasonable question

The GB is still modded. Spam is removed and people are kicked for violating site rules.

It's just that it's modded by either Laurel, Manu or someone delegated by them to handle it, and it's anonymous.

I don't see why mods need to be named. That way they could do their job just as it's done on the GB anonymously, and not take any heat personally. I'd prefer that for the Mod's sake as well as those on the board who might take offense.

Marquis stepped down as a Mod a little while after KC was offered the position, so he's now ignorable for those who wish to do so. ;)

[/hijack]

KC isn't the sort to abuse her position. She also isn't the sort to stop being herself. Which means, MisterSir, if she politely thwapped you upside the head for the Christ in your basement comment on the other thread, KC was expressing her opinion, and not necessarily reigning Mod Holy Hell down on you. She has the authority and ability to remove your words/edit your post; she has not done so.

I've never tried to ignore KC :)

Whoops - should have made that clearer. I was quoting you about the Marquis thing; the rest was towards MisterSir. My bad.

I've never tried to ignore KC, either. :)

Oh! I didn't think that you were, just echoing that I haven't really seen KC abuse her position.

And I've probably argued with her...I think I've argued with everyone...

Ooops I thought it was the drugged, trained and whored out comment

So many comments. So little time
