Democrats in history - Let's take a look.

Perhaps you didn't realize that Biden has years of experience and a known history. Palin is a (less than) one term Governor with little to no record of accomplishments or failures relating to that position.

She's like a little girl who uses her "cuteness" to get by in life. Except she's an adult who should have outgrown that kind of behavior years ago and should have gained the communication skills expected of an adult. This combined with no record really sets up a perfect storm that would have excluded her from public office if not for the prevalent negative view in the Republican base towards "learnin'."

The Facts

I know that, for the dummies who majored in "feelings" in college, facts are distractions when you are trying to recite the mantra your comrade controller gave you to "wish away" unpleasant realities.

Before you start in on snarky bullshit, please be advised: if you cannot refute the facts here, say so and then voice your opinion. To simply dismiss these facts or recite the mantra your puppeteer gave you is an admission that these facts are true, and that the Democrat Party has some explaining to do, as it IS the more racist of the two major American political parties.

Okay, here we go:

Let's take an historical look at the Democrat Party on the issue of racial equality and justice:

1.There were six Democratic Party Platforms supporting slavery from 1840 through 1860.


2.There were seven Democratic presidents who owned slaves from 1800 through 1861.


3.From 1868 through 1948 there were 20 Democratic Party platforms that either supported segregation outright or were silent on the subject.


4.The Jim Crow laws were the post-Civil War laws passed enthusiastically by Democrats that segregated public schools, public transportation, restaurants, rest rooms and public places in general. The reason Rosa Parks became famous is that she sat in the “whites only “ front section of a bus, the “whites only” designation that was a direct result of Democrats.


5.The Ku Klux Klan, which, according to Columbia University historian Eric Foner, became a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.


6.Democrats opposed the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the Constitution. The 13th banned slavery. The 14th effectively overturned the infamous 1857 Dred Scott decision by guaranteeing due process and equal protection to former slaves. The 15th gave black Americans the right to vote.


7.Democrats opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1866. It was passed by a Republican Congress over the veto of president Andrew Johnson who had been a Democrat before joining Lincoln's ticket in 1864. The law was designed to provide blacks with the right to own private property, sign contracts, sue and serve as witnesses in a legal proceeding.


8.Democrats opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1875. It was passed by a Republican Congress and signed into law by Ulyses S. Gran. The law prohibited racial discrimination in public places and public accommodations.


9.In 1904, the Democratic platform devoted a section to “Sectional and Racial Agitation”, claiming the GOP's protests against segregation and the denial of voting rights to blacks sought to revive the deat and hateful race and sectional animosities in any part of our country, whch in turn meant confusion, distraction of business and the reopening of wounds now healed.


10.Four Democratic platforms from 1908 to 1920 were silent on blacks, segregation, lynching and voting rights as racial problems in the country. By contrast the GOP platforms of those years specifically addressed the “Rights of the Negro” (1908), lynching (1912,1920, 1924, 1928) and as the New Deal kicked in, speak out about the dangers of making blacks “wards of the state”.


11.The Klanbake, also known as the Democratic Convention of 1924 was the 103 ballot convention held in Madison Square Garden. Hundreds of delegates were members of the Ku Klux Klan, the Klan so powerful that a plank condemning Klan violence was defeated outright. To celebrate, the Klan staged a rally with 10,000 hooded Klansmen in a field in New Jersey directly across the Hudson from the site of the convention. The rally featured burning crosses and calls for violence against African-Americans and Catholics.


12.It was the Democrats that segregated the federal government, at the direction of president Woodrow Wilson upon taking office in 1913.


13.Democrats created the Federal Reserve Board, passed labor and child welfare laws, and created Social Security with Wilson's New Freedom and FDR's New Deal. These programs were created as the result of an agreement to ignore segregation and the lynching of blacks.


14.Thousands of local officials, state legislators, state governors, U.S. Congressmen and U.S. Senators were elected as supporters of slavery and then segregation between 1800 and 1965.


15.Three-fourths of the opposition to the 1964 Civil Rights Bill in the U.S. House came from Democrats. 80% of the “nay” vote in the Senate came from Democrats on the same bill.

Yes, the Democrat Party that you all hail as being so non-racist needs to step up and confess its sins, not spend its time and treasure trying to convince everyone that these evil deeds were done by Republicans. You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you have to wait until 2008 to fool all of the people and shut down dissent.

I don't know who's brain you're using to spoon feed you this post, but whoever it is is ignoring, as I pointed out earlier, the ideological realignment of the political parties caused by the equal rights movement. The "Dixiecrats", white southern secessionists, deserted the Democratic party for the Republicans starting around 1948 and ending around the time Nixon played the "Southern Strategy" after Democratic leadership took on a much more liberal social view in terms of equal rights for women and minorities.

In short, the "Dixiecrats" responsible for nearly all of the comprehensive list you posted, left almost to the man, to the Republican party decades go because they Democratic Party didn't oppress women enough or wasn't racist enough for them.

It's one thing to be a one time govenor from the state of Alaska and not knowing something. It's another to be touted by the news media as the professor on foreign policy and talking shit.

Did you miss my post on George Wallace? He left the Democrat party only once to run on the American Independent ticket. He was never a Republican.

Neither was Sen. Byrd, also one of the Dixiecrats. But for the most part, and I mean the vast majority, the Dixiecrats left the Democratic party for the Republicans because they opposed racial integration and equal rights for minorities and were welcomed with open arms.

Also, like Sen. Byrd, George Wallace denounced his pro-segregation attitudes later in life.
