US Attorney General's Brief to dismiss the challenge to DOMA in the Supreme Court.

Arguing for equality is about like asserting that you wont rest until everyone is pretty or smart. 'Equality' is a nominalization that doesnt exist. And when you struggle for something that doesnt exist there is no outcome but despair.

When I think of 'equality', I think of it as the right to live your life in peace without looking over your shoulder...equality of opportunity to succeed or fail without outside hindrance...be it in marriage, school, business or life in general.

Unfortunately, the term 'equality' has often been distorted into representing equality of outcome...which is patently ridiculous and impossible. On that I agree with you.

If God, who all Good Christians worship, hates Gays as they do or think he does, then why are there so many Gay people? I don't think the Devil's into sexual preferences...he's just looking for damned souls.

Why do I think a bunch of these 'Good Christians" are gonna get a hot surprise when they assume room temperature? :D

Note to all:

I have made some corrections in the OP and my later posting. The matter currently is before Federal District Ct. The challenge, it's hoped by the plaintiffs, would likely reach the higher courts, including perhaps the Supreme Ct. Hence it was not quite correct to describe a position taken by the AG before the Supreme Ct, though one presumes the US Government will pursue a consistent path should the SC become involved; based on the brief, that would mean the defense of DOMA.

No, Pelosi is from the peninsula north of San Francisco, a community of limousine liberals who are appalled by the antics of The City. Besides, she'd originally from Maryland or Delaware or something and she's Catholic. The only thing she knows about backbone is how to swing it when there's spite to be paid off.

No, she is from the 8th District, which includes most of San Francisco.

I don't know where her home is in CA but I do inow that many of her constituents are gay, and the gay community is quite powerful politically in SF.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, who insists on that title in lieu of any other, is from the North Bay, including Marin and Sonoma Counties, and Lady Di, Diane Feinstein, is from San Francisco, which makes for an unusual grouping - all women and all from the same general area.

I agree with you. But 'liberty' is what you seem to be talking about.

Generally speaking, I'm okay with whatever you wanna do so long as you keep it off the street and dont disturb the peace. When my kids were in high school we had one rule that was strictly enforced; DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO BUT DONT BRING HOME NUTHIN I GOTTA FEED.

Actually there were 2 rules. The 2nd one was: I AINT GONNA LOOK FOR IT BUT IF YOU LEAVE IT OUT IN PLAIN VIEW IT SUX TO BE YOU.

I dont know what equality is, but I do think that if the guvmint charges you with something you oughta have the same resources the guvmint has, to refute the guvmint's case. There is equity in that.

I ran for office on one occasion. I lost by one vote. ONE VOTE! Three of my friends didnt vote cuz they figured I had it in the bag. I have dum friends. But I accepted the results and didnt dispute it. I didnt demand my Indian Bonus Points or my Veterans Preference Points to undo the vote count. I lost, simple as that.

That distortion is fabricated by opponents more than proponents. We want a level playing field. Simply opening the gates to the field results in shrieks of rage from the groups that used to play unopposed.
