i want to borrow an idea from another site i frequent that i thought might be fun to do here.

on a (more or less) weekly basis, we create a thread that spotlights the members of this community.

1. only those who have specifically given their explicit permission to participate in this process. people may do so by posting to this thread so saying. yes, this means that people might edit their posts and revoke their consent: if you do, please post again with that change.

2. after a thread runs its course, the spotlighted HTer selects any person responding yes to this thread and creates the next thread.

edit: when you select someone, please PM him or her & get a response to make sure that person will be available

3. whatever disagreements we may have with forumites, the spotlight thread is not a place for mockery. people may choose to share what they like, with the understanding that such sharing ought not to be ammunition for abuse.

is anybody interested? and yes, the first person responding in the affirmative is the recipient of the first spotlight thread. i'll create it. as a general rule, i think most of us would feel uncomfortable creating a thread spotlighting ourselves... :>

willing participants to date not yet spotlighted: cherrybomb24, fuckmeat, justskye, kokopellirises, littlebabyclit, luna bella, redheadedhaze, tbs230, jen_litgirl.

spotlights already created: quoll, jtohispb, sweeterika, fire_breeze, velvetdarkness, satindesire, mistersir, mac98, silverwhisper, sarojaede, bobsgirl, eilan, typicaldeviant, phaedre, midwestyankee, sadangel, eudaemonia, bailadora, kikori, lizzie borden, nightbird, jkayle, rainshine, pmann, gooodgurrl, miles long.

What does this spotlight involve, Ed? Is the person in the spotlight asked questions, or is there a set list of questions for them to answer? Beyond what you said in your OP, how does it work on your other forum?

i'll throw my hat into the ring.
ausome, the first victim! :D

the spotlighted HTer is asked questions by anyone in the forum who wishes to pose them. the spotlighted HTer always has the right not to answer a question, and in turn, the querant acknowledges that the HTer in question is entitled to answer (or not) in whatever way he or she feels appropriate.

an excellent question: i was pressed for time when i first wrote the OP. the following is the standard disclaimers which appear in each spotlight thread in that forum:

1. questions or simple comments only. this is not a place to argue with someone, challenge them or attempt to engage in debate. save the arguing for another time.

2. don't be a putz. what i mean by this is: don't ask deliberately embarrassing questions, or stuff that treads on the sacred. this is designed to get to know somebody, not make them clam up. friendly ribbing is allowed!

3. have fun. try to think of engaging questions that will get someone talking.

4. anyone can ignore or refuse to answer questions they don't like, without explanation.
i'm not sure how completely that answers your questions, erika. if i've missed something, please let me know.

velvet, does that mean you're willing to be spotlighted?

for the record: i am.

I do like this idea (more so than what I first thought the topic was going to be about) so, yes, I'd be more than happy to participate.

Ha! You're all a bunch of suckers!

As for no mocking -- some people just must be mocked.:D

Ah... so _that's_ what you meant. It does work well elsewhere and can be quite enlightening.

I think it's a good idea . ;-)

Enlightening, in a spotlight thread.:D

Sorry, I haven't finished my first coffee of the day yet.

Yep, you answered them perfectly! And seeing the concept in action in Quoll's thread has helped as well. :)

I know the list is already a mile long, but I'll add my name to it.

What do you think about indexing the willing participants in your first post, and then maybe marking them as completed as the threads happen? I'm just thinking picking from a list in one post might be easier than looking through a multipage thread and/or trying to remember who's already been featured as the months go along.

Of course it's entirely possible I've gotten a little too index-happy in my time here! :D

indeed, that was my intention, truth be told. :>

gee, i can't (coughampics) imagine what you mean by that! :D

Barkis is willing (10 points to the first one who recognizes the source). And so is the yankster. ;)
