Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism

Making all of the other Christian denominations responsible for what Christian fundamentalists do and say and for tracking them down and make them go in some sort of lockstep is "opening doors"

Get a clue.

I DO have a clue.

I have a clue, that people tend to be rather narrow...
Stella has said that she welcomes the concept of "christ-like" Christianity. (sorry if that is NOT what you meant, Stella).

I can see WHY she (or ANYONE) might feel/believe that Christians are a nasrty vindictive, narrow bunch of hypocrites! That is what she SEES. Hell, I see it too!

Ok. sorry. I should have said that I was INFERRING or extrapolating from what you had said. (really didn't mean to put words into your mouthe there. sorry.

There ARE "bunches of Christian denominations"... I think in many people's minds (including quite a few Chrsitians) it becomes "fuzzy".... so they all get "mixed up in a bucket". SO..... maybe this shoudl not be a fight to "take back" Christianity, but to seek out the roots of what Christ /God intended...if we are able to discern that. (not sure we CAN, but I do think we can get a whole lot closer than shooting a Dr. in the name of God, and Denying marriage to loving couples in the name of God....)

I seriously doubt that's possible. The zealots are convinced both that their way is the only way and that any who do not share their views are not truly Christian.

I have a zealot for an older brother. In his eyes, our Southern Baptist raised and church attending mother is just barely a Christian, and he only gives her that because he loves her. He and I came to a tacit agreement a long time ago that if we were going to continue having a relationship, we would have to stop talking about religion. No outside force is going to budge him from what he believes.

I see it in a lot of folks too--and doesn't have anything to do only with Christianity. I see it in Stella on this thread. Very much in the Amicus vein.

Nasty zealotry is nasty zealotry--can find it any religion, including atheism.

There will ALWAYS be those... and those...and those.

I believe that the challenge that Stella and john-the-author put forth...
was to make a "presentation".... of a "movement".. to the world.... BY "christians" to Show what we mean by "christianity".

I cannot speak to or of your brother. I also cannot judge him.< (that is biblical you know? ;) ) so he should not be judging you or your mother, if he is subscribing to Christianity.

seems to get a bit "circular"... but mostly because, as human beans, we are flawed and we DO fall short, and we DO judge....

Sure. Stella can/does get "enthusiastic"...
so? Why write her off for that?

She has JUST said she welcomes such a movement... not to promote atheism!

I think she is right... HECK! I actually admire the zealotry in Jehovah's witnesses or Mormons! I don't AGREE with them, but they get off their asses and DO something they believe in. (often annoying, but not killing anyone).

OK if I "left" her off?

This issue was addressed in the sermon at my church yesterday. Pity Stella wasn't there to maybe listen to it.

I am not quite sure I know what you mean by leaving her off...
off the "list" of zealots?

I suppose you might just have her on "ignore" if she rankles you so.

I hate to think that >> I << am the advocate for Christianity here!

I don't understand this. If it's a reference to my use of "left" (in quotes), you have just missed that this was a play on your misuse of "right" (which should have been "write." You write somone off; you don't right them off).

As for putting her on ignore, why should I give her that power? And why shouldn't I respond to her when I think she posts something idiotic. She feels free to do it, doesn't she? She doesn't own this site (or "truth") any more than I or you do.

ah.

HA HA then!
my mistake, again.

Ok. Seems to me, a discussion would be more appropriate (and Christian  ) than just bickering.

You can't discuss with a zealot. This has been proved time and time on this forum with Amicus-like zealots of all stripes.

They invariably start off knowing that "tough noogies" is their bottom line.

Ok.

Seems that discussion DOES tend to be futile in religion and politics threads.

But, stooping to bickering does not help convince anyone. In fact I think it tends to work against your cause.

Hey, Stella! Seems like that good 'ol boy sr71plt has the hots for you!!! :D

He's mentioned you / taken a whack in your direction in eleven of his twelve positings. Sounds like an infatuation to me! ;)

You been sending him smutty PMs in the background or sumthing?

Yep, agree entirely. And I'm sure you noticed I didn't trumpet my cause on this issue here--just took umbrage at what Stella was telling me I had to do (and sounding sooooo much like Amicus while she was doing it). :)

Oh, if you had posted Amicus-like zealotry here, I'd give you equal time.

(Feel like a vulture much? :D)

Nah. I'm just getting a big chuckle out of you doing your Carl Rove imitation hoping that if you say something often enough, like "Stella is an Amicus like zealot" people might actually believe you.

No. You're afraid people will see what's clearly there.

I'm confident they'll also see what you are up to by swooping down from your vulture perch.

I'm quite pleased with what "people" will see in this thread. :)

Where you would like to see absolutist, over-the-top statements unchallenged, I guess. (Oh, when they agree with you, of course. :D) That seems natural.

nope.
I ignore that.

as you noted, you cannot convince a zealot...so I do not try.
I ignore many.

And I DO challenge... even Stella.
or you.

Then, if it seems fruitless for the both of us...
onward ho'!;)

Please don't think that "what I want to see" means I want to see it from you, dear. :D

Exactly what I meant!

ONward Christian So-o-ldiers, MARCHing as to WA-A-AR...

Come on, baby sing it!

:)

A kind of war, yes.
A battle to be sure.

But let's not being killing the "infidels", when he have a plank in our own eyes and cannot see to cast that first stone..and all.

But see, that's just my point. By your beliefs, he shouldn't be judging. By his belief, he has a solemn obligation to save the non-believer from eternal damnation. You both call yourselves Christian-should Stella be able to equate you as the same thing? Are you, as a Christian, responsible for my brother's actions and beliefs? Should you have to apologize for him because you both label yourselves Christian, even though he would tell you that you aren't a Christian? If so, then by all means take her up on her challenge.

To say that all Christians are responsible for this murderer (you remember, this thread was about a murderer?) is like suggesting that all Muslims are responsible for 9/11.

I think that the actions of the few extremists damage the legitimate concerns of the many.

This murder, and any cause-related violence, make it more difficult for reasoned arguments to be heard.

There can be concerns about late-term abortions even if you support the principle of abortion. It will be more difficult to express those concerns now.
